Good for that guy. Is it common practice to run from north to south korea? I'd imagine if this happened a lot then north korea would talk about how they will blow south korea up so no.

There must be some really strong alcohol in DRPK to actually wake up and have escaped / immigrated to another country without knowing. For South Korea to offer him citizenship so freely sounds like bullcrap to me.

Its a shame his whole family will probably be sent to labor camps once the North Korean government figures out. That is one of the main reasons people don't at least attempt to escape, because if they succeed, their families will be punished.
