The only thing I can understand is women being upset that they're not as sexy as HotBid. But then, who is.

I feel they are just trying to find some pretty girl to try and appeal to a gamer audience. The top ranked girl posted some survey about which games she likes, which boiled down to: Pokemon, Halo, Minecraft and WoW. While that is a good chunk of gaming, I'm not sure if she'll garner a lot of respect from gamer guys for the things she says (except for the Halo crowd perhaps). Which leads me to believe that what's more important here is how the girls present themselves to the voting crowd. Going by the example of the top ranked girl, it seems that the gamer part is mostly an accessory, in her photo's. Which leads me to my point: Does it help cement the status and perception of female gamers if they take part in a competition ran by a magazine for a male audience? In my opinion this adds more to the stereotypical image of female gamers being tolerable eye candy in the gaming scene, than it does to portray that women can actually be respectable gamers. When women throw themselves at such a competition this makes it seem totally acceptable to male gamers to stick to the 'gamer girl' image they have in their heads (hot piece of ass that accepts videogames), because they are listed as a commodity in abundance, sexualizing themselves in an attempt to win the competition (even Anna Prosser has a bikini shot thrown in there). No thank you.

No thank you. its up to them to win in order to be "respectable gamers".

Maxim are after all quite well known for their progressive stance on gender portrayal in media. I'd say their fashion staff is probably busy recutting this year's bikinis to fit the 'Bid, just in case he snatches the top spot.

This is also about countering long held stereotypes of gamers as undersexed nerds. And several female gamers have commented in the past few pages with the same attitude. Either way, I've addressed just about every one of your objections in my previous posts, you either didn't read them or just are never going to give up this rather snobbish view of the situation so I will digress here. I think of a lot of your attitude is just a distaste for the Maxim magazine in general, which is understandable in a sense, but is creating a misplaced anger that they are focusing in on this single subset of men, and don't just think that a sexy woman is a sale to ALL men(or at least, men that buy their magazine). http://www.maxim.com/gaming/8-ways-make-gamer-happy This is an example article from their site, that gives perspective on how they see 'gamers.' You may note the section talking about how men in general find women who dress up(role play, lingerie) sexy, and thus gamers as an extension also like women who dress up, they just happen to enjoy characters that aren't isolated to the sexy librarian/nurse/schoolgirl(although that last one covers a whole lot of anime cosplay). This contest is just a long line in Maxim's run of finding the sexiest <insert thing here> and gaming happens to becoming more popular, so they're focusing on it. They do a general hometown hotties every year, does that mean every guy with a neighbor is an undersexed virign? Sexy librarians = every book reading man is an undersexed virgin? They may indeed actually be inferring something to that level, but you're acting as if Maxim is maliciously targeting the gaming audience, and not just moving on to find a new way to sell sex in general, to men in general. Also(unrelated to your post, just don't want to double), I fail to see how Anna is somehow far more respectable a choice in this competition, given what some people are so up in arms against(hot girls looking for a lucrative contract). Miss America may not be a Victoria's Secret runway show, but there is certainly a level of modelling going on there, and in her life as an on-stage personality and media member. I'm not saying don't vote for her(I did), but don't pretend that a person who does isn't playing into the stereotype so many on here are aghast at Maxim promoting. Edit: Also like it or not, Maxim's idea of 'gamer' here is what's important, and they subscribe to the idea that playing iPhone and Facebook games is indeed 'gaming.' They are of the belief that the vast majority of people are in some part 'gamers,' which further separates this as a 'gamers are undesexed virgins' ploy, and more into the category that 'men will buy anything with sexy women involved.' You can be mad about how those aren't 'real games' or 'real gamers' but that's life.

I doubt they'd be so downright discriminatory if it really came to that. Of course, they're hoping he loses to some hot babe they can flaunt on a magazine cover. As a side note, I haven't seen any interviews lately on Hot_Bid's stance on male cross dressing.

Their rules clearly state that judge's account for an incredibly majority of the process; they will simply weed him out by 'judging' that he is not suitable for whatever criteria.
