I was high master SC2 and am only 1500 in LoL and I switched over in September. There is far more to LoL than mechanics and being good at one game does not necessarily translate to the next. I hope LoL becomes the new game it is far more fun and interesting than SC2 Other than BW I don't know what game is harder than SC2 and being high master doesn't mean you are that good at SC2 at all. Practically any FPS computer game. Comparing SC2 difficulty level to Brood Wars is ridiculous as well. Never said I was any good but I seriously doubt anyone posting in this thread complaining about LoL is any good at SC2. Its the terrible majority that complains about shit like this instead of being like "oh cool, another popular game," people post retarded shit like "LOLHURTSESPORTSTROLOLOL" and "only one character to control? must be ezpz." People is dumb.
I find every FPS game out there far easier than SC2.

not a big fan of lol..... why people no like sc2 as much as lol?
|
I think Lol will grow much more than sc2 will do.. unfortunately. But the game is just to good as an esport title. While i find sc2 has much more depth in strategy, decision making and mechanics
Lol grows so fast because it is 1) free to play so everyone can play it or test it 2) because of its teamplay often you see that people want to play with their friends and for korea its an awesome game to play in pc bangs. It has low system requirments and teamplay makes really fun to play in pcbangs with friends.
I hope the growth of LoL will help esports in general so that sc2 grows with them

I started playing LOL recently, and I find that while its fun and competitive, its just not as deep of a game as SC and SC2 is. I wonder how long LOL can stay as an esport. So you recently started playing LoL and you already understand how deep the game is? Well thats surprising to say the least, since new players are hardly even familiar with the champions let alone the various champion matchups, lane dynamics, jungle timings etc. Arbitrarily difficult mechanics don't make games viable esports. If the game is competitive and can garner viewers then its a viable eSport. LoL doesn't require 250apm to play optimally so it isn't an eSport? Yes its mechanically far easier than SC2 but to say it lacks depth is stupid. The game has far more burden of knowledge than SC2 & it has more than enough depth in terms of strategy, execution and teamwork. Its funny when people say they play LoL and it has absolutely no depth when they wouldn't be able to tell simple stuff like how to play a dorans opening vs a cloth+5pot opening. I've played more than a thousand games of LoL but when our LoL subforum vets like smash and yango explained these things to me I was surprised at how deep strategy is at the higher levels. And those guys are just high elo players, equivalent to a general masters ladder player in SC2. And please stop comparing LoL and Dota. They are different games. The fact is that they different design philosophies and niche, one of them isn't necessarily better than the other. In the end people will play the one they prefer, some will play both. Stop posting hateful stuff just because you don't like one.
How about this, I played LoL extensively--it's not a deep game. It's very one dimensional, lane dynamics aren't difficult, champion matchups are simple, there's no actual choices to be made in the game. Jungle timings? Seriously? Counter-jungling is probably the 'hardest' thing to do in the game and it's painfully easy because Jungle 'timings' amount to a specific interval that you can not only predict but place a ward to just know.
Furthermore, you're reading into what he's saying very deeply and trying to rationalize everything everyone's ever told you was wrong with the game.
It's not that it's not an e-sport, it clearly is, it's just almost painfully simplistic. Even the tip top players on the very best teams admit that the game is so easy it's ridiculous. The only truly impressive aspect of the game is the teamwork. Strategy is often a matter of counter picking your lanes and just..going and winning.
The mechanics that define the game are slow and boring, winning your lane is often just a matter of counter picking or getting one even half-decent gank, teamfights, well..like I mentioned, teamwork is the only defining aspect of the game. Playing it is incredibly easy, working with people is harder because individually characters are so useless it's ridiculous. I have a problem with team games where, in the event my team is just terrible, I can't do anything to carry us through. In counter-strike, if my team fails hard, I can ace the round, LoL has no such function--no matter how Garen-as-fuck you are, you can't 1v5 (unless you're so fucking Garen it's ridiculous).
League wasn't even a bad game, it's just frustrating that the direction it's going is kind of dumb. At least when I left, the meta was very "Atmog's / Atmallet" heavy and whoever had a dumber, tankier dps than the other team won (what good is an AD carry when a dude with 5k health can lock them down and kill them without much of an issue?).
If they were to ever remove Warmog's from the game I'd likely begin playing it again, at least Mallet took longer to acquire. There were also the really underrated characters like Wukong, no one seemed to like him, but my particular build..I don't recall ever losing a game with it / if I did lose I had a grossly positive ratio and couldn't carry the team hard enough.

Umm... There's quite a few of them even in the RTS genre? Warcraft III C&C: Red Alert Armies of Exigo
In WC3 they even made a separate invite only ladder for the top people, just so that they could practice against someone around their skill without the need to create custom games and look for people elsewhere (match making for pros). Each season 5 bottom places would fall back to normal ladder and top 5 ladder would get invites to this pro ladder to try themselves against really good people.

Lots of people here seem to think LoL can't take the "number 1 ESPORT in Korea" because it's not competitive (read: difficult) enough.
If this article is true, I'm not sure that Koreans are flocking to LoL because it's "easy"... merely that LoL is where the money is currently.

the game is easy and the people who play it are garbage. I managed to make it (easily) into the top 10% of the NA ladder and this was during a time when I was finishing graduate school and had to spend a lot more time studying and going to class than playing.
it is literally impossible to miss a creep in LoL. instant turn rate, no windup, 8 million damage to creeps with masteries and runes.
free blink dagger, free damage spells (exhaust/ignite), never lose a dragon/baron (smite), characters cant get too out of control because it's not like you can gank (free map hack in clairvoyance, you can buy as many wards as you want at a time) so you cant shut down a smart carry on the tiny ass map.
LoL players are like creationists. they have their own little lie for every fact and are quick to accuse you of having never played, or maybe you "just don't understand", or whatever.
LoL is NOT suited to be a competitive game. And that's why people like Dendi play DotA and people like HSGG play LoL.
Real life not competitive enough for ya bud?
What are you, the king of Morocco?
haha, people complaining games arent "competitive" enough should get a reality check.
you play what is fun, you dont play whats not.

Farily small viewer turnout? IEM got 275k at the finals..

if i remember correctly, almost all LoL major tournaments are at least funded by riot.

It's been too long since C&C:RA and I've never played Armies of Exigo, but I'd be really hesitant to call WC3 harder than SC2.

I have player BW,WC3,SC2 and I can safely say that WC3 is easier than SC2 imo. It's slow paced and upkeep mechanic make it much less mechanic intensive than SC/SC2.

It does however mean that you are in the top 1 percent of the sc2 player base. Being 1500 elo is top 25 percent?

I think his point was that compared to SC, it's mechanically a joke such that you can literally stop and take time to eat a chocolate bar (if you're running back to lane or dead etc, there's literally nothing to do).
You'll never be able to do that in SC unless you literally pause the game.
