Midas said it best :
"I think the trend nowadays is to make things easy and accessible. In terms of cartoons, the popular trend is to draw things in very simple, basic styles. It makes it easy for the reader to engage. I'm going to confess that in the off-season, I tried out StarCraft 2 and League of Legends. I was so surprised when I first played StarCraft 2. I couldn't believe that such an easy game exists. Same with League of Legends. I guess the best way to attract people these days is to make things easy and simple."
Im not hating on LoL just disappointed that the game is easy on some degree.

sc2 DOTA players are ballers. You pay for what you get :D Yeah I also guage how competetive a game is by how much my mom spends on my computer. That's why BW is a joke and Skyrim is the best Esport.
(LoL has higher computer requirements than SC2 btw)

How does a casual game that has no competitive aspect become to the most competitive game in the most competitive country? If this is warn worthy so be it, but I just don't see how the lackluster title called LoL is at the top of eSports. I guess DotA2 will easily become the biggest eSport at this rate. Like exactly this kind of comments make no sense. How does it have no competitive aspect? Of course it does, it even has multiple different ranked ladders, where you can actually see your position in comparison to the entire game population(not just a single league). Just because a game is fun to play doesn't mean that it isn't competitive. And again I'd like to point out that SC2 actually casualizes itself far more than LoL. Ranked ladders? I have friends who played DotA/HoN who played LoL for 2 weeks and hit top 10 on the LoL 'competitive rankings' just to prove how big of a joke it is. The game is completely dumbed down for casual play and almost every competitive aspect of DotA was removed for the making of LoL. When are YOU and the rest of the LoL fan base going to realize Riot games is simply sucking up all the profits they can.
Anyone who believes this, I've got some oceanfront property in Ohio I'd like to sell you.

It's just so fussy and cluttered, I can't recognize a thing that's going on there. Dota was so much nicer to watch. I'm curious whether Dota2 or lol will prevail (apparently HoN is already beaten?). HoN was never really big

You were fun while you lasted. DotA 2 better usurp this game. ;/ A videogame getting more views than a game has ever before = death of esports? when esports is heading in the direction of being a washed up kindergarten sport why would anyone who enjoyed esport BECAUSE it took a shitton of skill and dedication wanna be part of it? esports might grow, not in the right direction tho.

Great E-sports is growing, but LoL is not the path it should be going in. Especially in Korea. If anything I would understand DotA 2, but they should go with SC2 after all of the past and current success of the Broodwar

If you're going to be elitist, at least be consistent.

But hasn't that been going on since SC2? I don't understand why SC2 fans would complain about that? Isn't it a good thing that the interface is more easy so that you can concentrate on better translating your thoughts and visions into action? LoL is still technically demanding and very difficult to play at a mechanically perfect level, there's plenty of things to optimize.

The Broodwar success as you say it was because of some big factors that LoL has and SC2 doesnt.

I just can't get into watching or playing LoL. It just doesn't push my buttons. But hey, if so many like it, and OGN is willing to back it up, good for them.

I don't get it, I watched the IEM LoL semi's and finals and while I enjoyed myself I don't get how you can keep that experience fresh enough for it to be a long term spectator sport.
I guess making it free to play is a good step into making it accessible to as many people as possible though, can't blame Riot for doing things right.

In fact, at the pro level if your team makes a single large mistake the game might actually snowball completely out of your control from just that.
Or do you want to compare to the bottom of the bronze league where you can win while building your first gateway at 500 minerals? At least be consistent please.
Also my little sister has played SC2 as well, why is that a bad thing?

I am surprised not everyone mentions what seems to me the #1 reason for lol success, i.e. the fact that it's "free". This raises the question of the economic model for e-sports: do you favor free games and make money indirectly, through ads, events, in-game optional fees, etc. or do you stay 'old school' ? I would really be interested to see what lol incomes are, compared to blizzard.

It's good to see that the support Riot has been showing towards esport being rewarded. Blizzard could take a page out of Riot's book and start promoting events more or risk losing out in the esports arena.
While I mainly play DotA now, LoL has always been a blast to watch during events such as IEM. From a spectators standpoint I guess MOBA games just have many more possibilities and permutations within a single game compared to traditional RTS. Although there will always be tiers in the MOBA metagame, the choices in skill build, item build, and even hero combinations just make for better viewing IMHO.
And if LoL can keep pulling in 200K plus viewers surely it will be the premier esport title for years.
