And while it's great that Riot puts so much money back into the tournament scene, they do that because they need to buy loyalty from their players - otherwise they will just switch to the next good free game, or even the next MOBA game. They know they need to build a strong foundation because DOTA2 and Blizz DOTA will hit them like an earthquake. edit: not to mention, kotaku is gawker so their opinion on ESPORTS is about as valuable dirt. DOTA isn't going to do shit to LoL in korea. Lots of evidence backing up your statement. Not. A year ago people would have said LoL won't do shit to starcraft in korea. Things change, and the only reason the koreans are so interested is because of the money, and the money is only there because Riot keeps selling new skins and heroes. If people eventually get bored of buying a new character every few weeks then the tournament prize money will dry up. It really depends entirely on how long Riot can milk microtransactions - although I will admit at this point it looks like there's a lot of milk left in that particular cow. Pro-gamers go where the money is. Heck, even Diablo 3 could destroy LoL in terms of active players, even though diablo3 won't even be an e-sport, just because of the potential cash flow from the real-money auction house.

Didn't all the BW players say the SAME thing about SC2? Above all that, SC2's pro/e-sports scene is a lost cause. They aren't even popular in the e-sports mecca. As for LoL, it's so team oriented that the dumbed down mechanics don't even matter.. How come I pwn a lot more individually in HoN or Dota than in LoL? Please tell me which hero in LoL is viable of wiping out the enemy team single handidly.. As long as LoL developes more (it still is a young game), and doesn't add in retarded items like blink dagger, lothar, bkb and what not, i think it will be fine. I do agree that the games are still quiet boring to watch and that is exactly the same for DOTA2.. I found games like MiG vs Najin e-fire very very high level and resourceful.

Seriously. Tormented Soul being the most sad and Na'ix being the most savage.

Insofar as you're trying to keep bias and misguided preconceptions about LoL out of the thread, it doesn't help your case to put forth bias and misguided preconceptions about DotA.

What do you think that sc2 is, compared to BW? Hypocrisy at it's best.

And they said Starleague will be getting prize cut in order to continue.... I think Riot puts up all the prize pools for LoL but maybe I'm wrong. With Starleague they have to pay Blizzard too. ya for first point, with the starleague blizzard takes a percantage cut after the fact though it is smaller for small tournaments (or non-existant i.e. they pay nothing) while larger tournaments (ogn, mlg, gsl etc) have to pay much more as they are better able to get revenue.

I don't really like lol, due to the weird 2D'ish graphics, and the reason that it is just so incredibly confusing. It's just so fussy and cluttered, I can't recognize a thing that's going on there. Dota was so much nicer to watch. I'm curious whether Dota2 or lol will prevail (apparently HoN is already beaten?).
