Just seems like gay kids get beaten to shit in america but i guess that might be because of it being a bigger place etc. Just wondering, why do gay people speak like that ? is that just a vocal calling to let people knoe they are gay ? No. It isn't. In the US, we have red states, blue states, and some in between. In Boston, Massachusetts, where I live, the attacking student would have been suspended for at least two weeks and given a lecture, and probably take some mandatory course. Out in the Bible belt, the same can't be said.

From experience, at my school there was one gay couple and they would make out in front of everyone in the hallways. Kind of gross, not even straight couples would go as far as they did. They would talk about their sexual endeavors as if they're boasting about their "outside the box" lifestyle. Yea kid ended up getting punched by one of the tough guys, was not surprised.

The bully should get a suspension (or maybe even expelling, according to whatever law the school may have), but not anything special or extra just cause the victim was gay. This is a serious issue plaguing America, and not enough is being said about it. In fact, many people are still homo-phobic, but instead of respectfully withholding it in public, flaunt it around like it's a badge of pride that they are straight. I must say though, media coverage is often poor.

He makes his voice like that because he is craving for attention! I've been to school with these types of people and they make sure to get it out to everyone that they're gay. Of course people are going to hate them when they go off telling everybody. User was temp banned for this post.

Because if he were a straight kid, he probably wouldn't've been beaten up. Singling someone out for things beyond their control, like race, orientation, gender, and beating them up is a hate crime. Merely picking on a kid because you don't like them isn't. I realize it's really difficult to differentiate the two, because what's to say that this kid didn't get beaten up because the bully just didn't like him, and frankly, it all comes down to the fact that this kid is defined by his homosexuality.

The gay community online takes all of these incidents that they can find and sensationalizes them. The gay kid is not more important than any other, but that's just how the internet works. Special interest groups can make regular things look big. If there was a thread like this for every kid beaten up in the U.S. or any country for that matter the entire general forum would be filled with nerds, idiots, and small kids getting beaten up. But some people think that gay people are more important, that's just the way it goes.

Secondly, the problem is not simply that a homosexual kid was beat up. Underoath said it right. So did ampson. The problem is that a kid got beat up. It's a pretty big fucking deal no matter why or how it happens. That bully just has his head up his ass along with the brain of a dipshit. Fucking idiotic.

A 3 day suspension sounds like the victim did something to taunt the aggressor (outside of being gay). A beating this bad, with evidence on the table, would have resulted in an expulsion in most school districts. The fact that it was only 3 days tells me either 1. we got gay haters in the administration or 2. victim was asking for it 3. attacker's first offense = not really a bully. Did you go to school in Carrollton Tx by any chance? This is the same thing that happened in my school. Gay people trying to flaunt their gayness and trying to get as much attention as possible... OH I KNOW I'LL BE GAY" The fact that he is flamboyant MAY be a RESULT of him being gay but it isn't the REASON he is gay.

Best part of the article: "An anti-bullying bill is pending in Ohio's legislature. Ohio House Bill 208 would add sexual orientation, gender identity, and other enumerated protections to Ohio’s anti-bullying law without changing the general prohibition against any bullying or harassment. Proponents of the bill are seeking testimony in the House Education Committee, according to Equality Ohio, but the bill has not been a priority of the committee." Because, ya know, who really cares about protecting *everyone* from bullies?

This is the problem. People see a bad thing happen and just say "prison". It's meant to keep vicious people out of society for our safety, not be the timeout corner of society. Yes the kid needs to be punished, but you throw him into a prison and you have a good chance of creating a useless member of society, totally useless.

This isn't a non-violent crime, it's not typing "Fag" on the internet. From what I understand, the victim was targeted because of their sexuality. There's nothing to educate or rehabilitate. There's just no room in a society for people like that. This is a good example where prison is the right answer.

Bad enough it happened. No bystanders tried to help the poor kid. Only going so far as to record it on their cellphone as it was preplanned. This happens often enough, there is no outcry when its not a gay person.

Bullying was actually a bit of a hot topic for a while. Now that election time is back it's off the radar though.
