It's not uncommon that parents don't let their children get better education than they have themselves, especially when better education means to lose an additional source of income for the family, it's not a phenomenon restricted to Romani people.

yes, seriously. the DNS is suffering damage from smoking, alcohol which not uncommon with gypsy kids consuming these by the age of 9 or even younger... poor hygene, and the lack of education doesnt help either. not to mention inbreding while which is not common it surely happens especially within wider family connections. however a gypsy mother gives birth for his first child at the age of 12-16 and by then probably one kid in every or two year. also its a known fact gypsys ageing faster and die in a younger age. have you ever wondered why you not allowed to buy cigarettes and alcohol before the age of 18 or not allowed nailing your cousins? there is a reason.

Comments like these (hgt1002s comment) do nothing but justify the people who call us primitive, racist and more. Some of us are trying to portray the stiuation for what it is, a group of people is causing problems for communities while leeching off the welfare system and not taking the help provided to them to better the situation for all the parties involved. Like I said, no hate is directed to gypsies because they are gypsies, they aggravate people with their actions, it's even worse when they get away with everything, things regular citizens get imprisoned for.

nitereloaded is absolutely right.I can even say that not 90% of the gypsies fit the stereotype, 99% of the fit it, at least here in Bulgaria, but as many posters mentioned it is the same in the other countries with big gypsy population. These people dont work, dont educate themselves, have zero personal hygene, have zero respect to anyone, have zero respect to ones property, their job is to steal, rape and kill. This is not, because they are not integrated in the society, thats because they are such people, its in their mentality, its their way of life. They are parazites that feed of the normal people.
These people have no place in the modern world and Europe.
Of course that Bulgaria wont be accepted in the Schengenian zone (sp?). Who wants hundreds of thousands of these people to start roaming Europe with Bulgarian ID cards? I surely dont and I`m glad that Netherlands and Finland think the same as me.

The reason this escalated into such a big conflict with protests around the country isn't because of the murder of the Bulgarian guy, it is because it was a "gypsy" that killed a "Bulgarian". Some people had enough.
Anyway my mom works in a hospital and one of the coolest ladies there is a gypsy woman, she is a nurse and has a nice flat in our neighbourhood and lives with her family. They are still being looked at as lower type of humans, this is shit and this is RACISM. But when some of the gypsies refuse to work and are criminals, that isn't racism, that is being USELESS to society.
I grew up near the gypsy part of my town and I don't hate any of them, although I have been attacked numerous times (was an exciting place to grow up), I hate those of them who refuse to help the rest of society and instead turn to violence and crime. I know some of them are struggling with shit jobs and are not being paid, just because of their social status. This discourages them even more, but that is the social problem that I was talking about and the integration part.
I am afraid the nature of this conflict has to do more with racism than social injustice, but I might be wrong. I am against it and I wish that most gypsies will consider being real Bulgarians and start earning their keep. Maybe then the social stigma about gypsies will disappear.
EDIT: Just to clarify, the Bulgarian gypsies aren't bad people and I have had more problems with Bulgarians in my neighbourhood as a kid. The statement about being attacked by gypsies is still true, but I have had more dreadful encounters with fellow Bulgarians. I think it is just right to add this :D.

People who are still calling us primitive, please read this comment, esp the bolded part. I'd raise a shitstorm if someone was treated this way just because of their race. We want action taken against the portion of the gypsy population who refuse to stop hurting/damaging communities close to them. What I'd like to see most is simply treating them the same as any other felon, fine or jailtime depending on the crime, nothing harsher.

There is LOADS of jobs out there in this "economic crisis" right now people just DONT want to clean the streets or work at a fast food resturant or in a pub because they think its "not good enough" for them, with that attitude there becomes more people on benefits and the economy slowly halts. - Getting help because we are white and european looking
- Getting an apartment before everyone else, in a VERY good city, just because we were white (I had a black friend who was there before me, and he waited much, much longer, even though they needed the same kind of appartment)
- Mother marrying a french man
- Ending up in a high school that is public but still incredibly selective as it's located in the 40th richer city of France
- Leaving Chile
- Being a bookworm because of my education
- Being n°1 during my whole scholarship because I was taught at a young age to read litterature and woke up every morning to my grandpa listening Pavaroti and Maria Calas,

Your mum in this didnt refuse you to go to school, get a higher education or to start going out with your dad/grandad to steal or to sell drugs. How is a 6year old supposed to know any of that, they are not its the reason as a parent you send them to school to learn. The parents (Gypsies) are failing at being parents by not allowing there children to go to school, socialise with other cultures of people and they turn out the same as there family. There tradition might EVENTUALLY change like some Travellers traditions in UK have changed. People can change traditions but it takes along time when you cant do anything about it.

There is LOADS of jobs out there in this "economic crisis" right now people just DONT want to clean the streets or work at a fast food resturant or in a pub because they think its "not good enough" for them, with that attitude there becomes more people on benefits and the economy slowly halts. Stop looking at some forms of work better than others, they all pay some form of money and some money is better than NO money.
Not everybody gets accepted at McDonalds. You usually don't when you look like you could kill people. It's funny that you call me narrow-minded. As I said before, I've been homeless with my mom when I was a kid, so I witnessed how it's not easy to fit in. But maybe you know better, and should write a book and teach all of those outcasts who just LOVE to be chased by police all day how to be a good citizen. Dude. Look in the Mirror, you have been homeless with your Mum and now you are not, you are a reason that you can change things you were obviously homeless for a reason because you said you moved TO France (guessing from another country for a reason maybe). You have found a job maybe? or even studying education at the moment. You are not stealing or involved in drug running your just trying to follow the law and make a good life. You should be in agreement with what most of this thread is saying. Why should they get away with it when you had to work twice as hard for your reward of a roof overy our head and money in your pocket. Its not fair when you work your ass off and pay all the money to the goverment and you see other people NOT doing this, and the law not being enforced on them. There is help in every country for people. But when they refuse to abide by the law there is outburts you must see that side of the argument. Oh, the thing is that I know VERY WELL that I simply got EXTREMELY LUCKY: - Being raised by an intellectual (my grandpa) - Getting help because we are white and european looking - Getting an apartment before everyone else, in a VERY good city, just because we were white (I had a black friend who was there before me, and he waited much, much longer, even though they needed the same kind of appartment) - Mother marrying a french man - Ending up in a high school that is public but still incredibly selective as it's located in the 40th richer city of France - Leaving Chile - Being a bookworm because of my education - Being n°1 during my whole scholarship because I was taught at a young age to read litterature and woke up every morning to my grandpa listening Pavaroti and Maria Calas, Things I had absolotuletely NO IMPACT on. It's called LUCK. How the fuck is a 6 year-old supposed to make his own life anyway? You learn what people teach you, period.
You had no impact on these things. Your parents and grandparents did. Children aren't being sent to school by choice of their parents. Being number one in your class is not luck, it's the product of hard work. Some people find it easier to excell in academia, but it still requires a lot of work. That's not luck. Again, welfare, free housing, schools being set up near gypsy slums with urging to enroll children. That's choice, and they don't take the help they're being offered.

@Inex : Dude, I'm from Pazardjik ... Lived for 12 years in the middle of one of the ghettos here along side gypsies. I know that there are people within their community who are trying to integrate themselves, but often face racism. But if there is a will, there is a way. I know a gypsy heart surgeon, a gypsy dentist, a gypsy lawyer, a gypsy taxi company owner and a gypsy fashion designer. They are capable people. At least those that are willing.
I think the media in Bulgaria has a lot to do with turning the event into racial hatred festival. Of course having a "bulgarian" killed by a "gypsy" will create a certain note of racial distress. But if you look at it as "innocent getting killed by a recidivist", then it kinda clears the theme of racial hatred.
Still thou, the same "bad gypsies" debate here continues, even thou it's a whole different ball game why these protests are happening. Riots they aren't.

It's just disgusting what is happening over here.I'm worried about me and my family right now.Since I'm from Turkish origin I've recieved a lot of threats lately.Nationalism is getting popular here because of the ignorant population.What happened is basicly this.A relative of the gypsy king Kiril smashed a bulgarian boy with his car and dragged him 15 metres it was obviously not an accident.Then people accused Kiril of the murder and set all of his property on fire.People here all think ethnic groups are the same etc.Now they accuse roma people of stealing and murder.Although those are common things for criminals to do not masses of people that they don't even know.The pogroms seem to be only the beginning.They are organizing some kind of rally in my town don't know what that is about really.Nazis here are only waiting for a Bulgarian to get killed so they have excuses to riot.
