The Boeing Corporation (Boeing) and Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) have each presented to us designs that will allow us to fly crews to the International Space Station in just a few years. Respectively, the vehicles are Boeing’s CST-100 and SpaceX’s Dragon. The total potential contract value is $4.2 billion for Boeing and $2.6 billion for SpaceX. The spacecraft will launch from Kennedy Space Center – Cape Canaveral complex. This is from NASA's website. It follows Bolden's words from the press conference almost exactly. Except he didn't give a breakdown live, just the $6.8bn total amount. http://blogs.nasa.gov/bolden/2014/09/16/american-companies-selected-to-return-astronaut-launches-to-american-soil/

Now it's up to SpaceX and Bigelow Aerospace to start pushing non ISS flights and projects to make NASA doubletake on seat Boeing seat prices.

The funny bit, is this contract is the cherry on top for SpaceX, their valuation wasn't based on their ability to gain this contract.

Yes, Boeing also threatened to lay off thousands of workers in certain fields due to "cut backs" if they weren't chosen. Their infrastructure isn't the issue, they have nothing to start testing for at least a year and a half from an engineering standpoint. Nothing at all. Meanwhile PpaceX is considering attempting unmanned abort tests on it's Dragon V2 this year!

They're not leveraging their contracts they're leveraging their contacts ![]() I mean they just got $1.6bn more for what the NASA official confirmed was exactly the same requirements as SpaceX's.

The guessing game starts with/if SpaceX and Bigelow reach agreements with non NASA agencies to establish other non ISS infrastructure. Then Boeing gets backed into a corner.

Though I'm sad that SNC ended up being the loser here. I have a lot of good friends who worked there right now. ![]()
