Really, the whole country is so far behind everywhere else, but the citizens don't know it. Cell phones? Yeah right. Kim Jong Il has them completely brainwashed with all sorts of false facts about the US. Most of them are convinced that we're constantly considering invading them because we're some sort of axis of evil that's jealous of their prosperity. It's gonna be really interesting when Kim dies. One of his sons has already defected out of the country, and there's speculation that his son still in the country might be along the same mindset. It'd be crazy to see a whole nation suddenly exposed to all the technological advancements of the past 15 years.

Everything they do... at this point North Korea's become a source of ridicule. Part of me wonders, do they know how the world - not just politicians - respond to their actions? I feel bad for them...

One of my favorite things to do is look at South Korea and then North Korea and compare the skyscrapers and the number of cars. The difference is just staggering.

The difference is just staggering. or those night photos of north and south korea. when I started to check information about n. korea I tought they must have some sort of hi-tech labs and that they must have some advanced technologies because of the nuclear research. But then I saw some documentary movies and saw eg. their hospital in capital city - there were no medical machines (only shitty beds) altough I would expect some - I didnt realise until then that they are in such a poverty. I wonder if the university professors in n. korea are aware of the fact, that there is something wrong or that this ideology is so fucked up.

The essence of the story is "you've done something wrong but we're strong and we're not afraid to call you out on it in front of everybody". I don't know why people are quoting GDP and stuff. It's obviously a calculation of damages that have occurred since the war and they definitely aren't expecting to receive it. They just wanted to make a powerful statement to the international community. It's a reaction to the blockade and all of this talk about imposing more sanctions. Foreign powers created the situation in Korea. You can't divide a country with that strong of a national identity and expect there to be no repercussions. Kim Il-sung and Syngman Rhee both wanted, first and foremost, to reunify and rule the entire peninsula.

If he's from North Korea and managed to escape to the United States, there's a really good chance he's not too happy with NK's situation. 15 years of technological advances, the discovery of a thing called "the internet", and realizing what an industrialized nation really looks like have a funny way of making someone resent the regime that kept them brainwashed for their lives.

A whole country with a frozen development because of 3rd parties. Serious crap. Your statement was true 50 years ago. But the stubborn actions of their dictator are the reason why N.K is still isolated, underdeveloped, poor country. When you spend a higher percentage of your GDP on the military than the US and Russia, while your people are dying because of the lack of food, than you have clearly set your priorities wrong. When you have a cripple economy, taking actions that piss off some of your biggest potential trading partners is certainly wrong (like building fucking atom bombs). And when you intentionally make your citizens poorer than they already are by wiping out their savings, you obviously don't give a fuck about your people. So blaming 3rd parties about the situation in N.K. is simply out of date. ======================================================== Well, N.K.'s crazyhead often brings some hilarious statements, but he doesn't even come close to Libya's dickhead's demands: - 7.77 billion Dollars - Abolish Switzerland - bonus awesome action ========================================================
