I would probably only watch the Chinese version if it was the only program on the only television channel being broadcasted. It seems like it will just be a large bunch of people marching in unison, with second rate tech compared to the Americans, with the only message being how strong they are... actually the Chinese military is currently superior to the States... lol I wouldn't be surprised if this were true, the US might have a slight edge in technology but China has a way bigger army and currently the economic advantage. It does because nukes aren't allowed, not to mention every superpower has nukes pointed at each other already so it would be a dumb move for anyone that starts.

Not really, there is something called mutual destruction. Also, it is more beneficial to get another country under your thumb and just use them for economic gain than blow them up and get nothing out of it except beef from everyone else.
People seem to think China's recent emergence is a phenomenon or something, but it isn't. The so-called rise of the West is the phenomenon. The last 200 years have been just a blip in history, a time when China hasn't been the dominant world power because of the transition to modernity. Throughout history up until the mid 1800s China was the economic (the only thing that matters) center of the world. The last 200 years and the West's dominance have been an exception to the rule.

Woah woah woah.
It's pointless to argue that China was the preeminent civilization in the world throughout history, as only relatively recently have civilizations from far flung corners of the world been able to interact. Let's remember that great civilizations and empires flourished all over the world, and that at various different times each would have a serious claim at being the "dominant world power". But it's all irrelevant because until the 1400's-1500's there was little communication between these empires. In the period of history in which the far flung parts of the world have been really interacting, China has only just become considered a world power.

The ratio was about 10:1. where's your perspective? 10:1 would mean something if they had equal forces. anyway Imma avoid that deadend flame-bait discussion. the communist movement came out of the nationalist party that focused on "rule of the people," and it was violently put down but never died. it's a long and complicated history, but point is China has restored "honor" to itself, the dragon has risen again.
You don't understand. The 10:1 ratio was from the Communists' sources. The actual ratio was most likely even more skewed.

You're right it is useless to compare when Europe and Chine weren't interacting with each other, but what I'm saying is that when they started to China was the center of the world. but before that it was still the dominant world power, they created many of the inventions needed for modernization and had the biggest empire by far. Only the Romans rivaled them for a small amount of time.

I disagree. China had never been a major source of global economy, (historically speaking) after the collapse of the Tang dynasty. Yes, the silky road was an important trade-route, but that's about it. During 1000 CE ~ 1200 CE, the world's centre was the Islamic world of the far-east (in terms of trading, religion, as well as scientific research), until the Mongols burned everything they had.
After China expelled the Mongols, the rulers started to restrict relationships with foreign countries (probably with the exception of Japan [in a negative way], Korea, and other East-Asian countries) and there were no major exchanges until 1800s. During this time, Europe ruled the world.

I refreshed a couple times, and checked that I have the right firefox addons. But it just shows up blank. Might be that my college internet connection is not dealing with it properly? Sometimes it is just inexplicably slow on certain sites.
Also, I doubt GDP was ever measured until the last 100-or-so years. And what on earth is a "continuous culture"? All cultures are continuous. If by that you mean "free from outside influence" then, I'd point out that Chinese play soccer, ride bikes, drive cars, drink coca-cola, and wear suits and ties to work. Western culture is the single most influential culture of all time.

On the other hand, Chinese are huge-suckers when it comes to historical drama - most Chinese are proud of the long history of China and enjoy watching them re-enacted, than for example Jerry Springers.
