However during the Japanese invasion in WW2, it is the nationalists that weathered most of the attack. Communists back then simply do not have the equipment to deal with a properly equipped & at the time modern army. The more advanced equipment themselves come from allied support, which dealt with the nationalist government. The Soviets were too occupied to provide, first with the german invasion then with the loot to provide much help.

It would be like looking into the future, only it would be the present. I would probably only watch the Chinese version if it was the only program on the only television channel being broadcasted. It seems like it will just be a large bunch of people marching in unison, with second rate tech compared to the Americans, with the only message being how strong they are... actually the Chinese military is currently superior to the States...

The ratio was about 10:1. where's your perspective? 10:1 would mean something if they had equal forces. anyway Imma avoid that deadend flame-bait discussion. the communist movement came out of the nationalist party that focused on "rule of the people," and it was violently put down but never died. it's a long and complicated history, but point is China has restored "honor" to itself, the dragon has risen again.

During WWII, the nationalist and communist parties made an agreement to fight against the Japanese as allies. Several times, the nationalist army refused to participate in battle, and even started handing over land to the invading Japanese. As a result, they became extremely unpopular with the chinese people, and the communist party was able to take over. And btw - the entire "Free Tibet" thing is a load of bullshit... Tibet was a serfdom until the PRC took control -,-... during the riots from last year, the ratio of Han Chinese to Tibetan citizens killed was 15:1

I wouldn't be surprised if this were true, the US might have a slight edge in technology but China has a way bigger army and currently the economic advantage.

Well, it's a proudful moment in China, which I think is a good thing as long as they keep on working towards reform. Tibet in 1950, India in 1962. Also, they shelled Taiwan and Chinese nationalist holdings in the 50's culminating in the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis. (Just a bit of historical accuracy Kennigit, no judgments...) Also, I'm trying to get one of the streams to work, thanks for posting them. This should be interesting. We saw from the olympic opening ceremonies a taste, I think, of what we're in for. Read a great article in the NY Times about it. The Nationalists were winning the Chinese Civil War until the Japanese invasion. The nationalists, being mostly in control, we're the ones targeted by the Japanese. The communists were in dire straights at the time, and therefore were less prevalent in the resistance to the Japanese invasion. As time went on, they did grow stronger, but it is true that the Nationalist army was the main opposition force. *** On October 01 2009 12:10 Slaughter wrote: I wouldn't be surprised if this were true, the US might have a slight edge in technology but China has a way bigger army and currently the economic advantage. The Chinese have the largest army in terms of manpower, but the US maintains a vast technological lead over the Chinese. In terms of an economic advantage, you're also not entirely correct. Although China's economy is growing very quickly and is incredibly big, the world's capital still largely rests in the hands of the United States. For a large part, the companies that manufacture in China are still based in the US.

Aren't more than half of chinese military technology basically a improved version of Soviet weapons tech? I know that most of chinese military hardware basically born from old Soviet-based technology.
