16 gig install baby LOL.
You must be flipping joking.
Meh. I just googled it and apparently it's true http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74786 Click "View Back of Box" and you'll see that it requires 16gb of minimum HDD space. that's ridiculous. i was planning on gettting it via steam too.

I'll pass. Shooters on consoles are more fun. I started out on the PC, played Halo, never went back. But I've spent literally half my life in a dormitory (10 years now) so maybe I'm biased.

What is this crap about dedicated servers for PC? Guess all games went console's way cept RTS. Now all I need they make sc2 console oriented and I'll go loco

Command and Conquer went consoles, and there is a Halo RTS out that sold pretty well.
Enjoy PC gaming while you still can.

Didn't the first Modern Warfare require eight gigabytes? I guess it's fairly accurate that the second one is twice as big, considering the special ops mode is about as long, game length wise, as single-player.
I hope at least one of you guys plan on uploading the missions on youtube My computer is too ancient to be running these modern games.

Never played CoD4 for PC, but I often wish for the different mods removing obviously broken things to be applied to the xbox.
I hope the focus of infinity ward post release will be on fixing any gameplay issues rather than charging for new maps that'll just get vote skipped (i.e. CoD5's FORCED new map system).

cod4 was a good game, but it was still an uncomfortable step closer to console gaming (read: terrible gaming) than cod2. it had pleasant usability improvements from cod2, though, so the exchanges were forgivable.
WaW was just plain bad. i really hope mw2 turns out alright, but this bullshit about no more dedicated servers doesn't bode too well for the results

this will be great as longs as they
FIX THE DAMN INFINITE ENEMY SPAWNS, god that was gay in SP
anyway, I know i'll be playing MP 10x as much anyway, as I'm actually very good at FPS's ...in stark contrast to SC.
I fail to see how cod4 was in any way moving towards console gaming, if you have played the console version vs the pc version you will know that they play entirely differently due to the much slower/worse aiming on console. In the pc version the game plays alot like a combo of CS and BF2, two absolutely great PC titles. Their maps could certainly use some work though, IMO

i said it was moving closer to console gaming than cod2, which is undeniably true.
cod2 didn't even have "hardcore" and regular modes.

After about five minutes, I started wondering where they were all coming from... Seriously, the spawns made the goddamn TV station so hard on Veteran. =(

the vast majority of memory in videogames comes from the game engine and assets in it. If CoD4 was twice as long but on the same engine with no assets it wouldnt be anything close to twice as big in memory.
this is just a simple case of poor memory-saving.

16gb is probably like 2-5% of the average amount of storage on a computer capable of running the game in the first place, why are people complaining about that?

because it's an insane amount of space for any one program to require. even a 1080p high-definition full-length film requires less than 10gb to store.
Ideas this has nothing to do with 'poor memory-saving'. 16gb is the total install, that's got nothing to do with the run-time characteristics of cod.

This lack of dedicated servers really scares me as a console user. I'm terrified CoD5's map system will come in to play. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure...
You get placed in game lobby, and a crappy DLC map comes up. Those players who refused to pay more for these pieces of crap desperately try to vote to skip. Sometimes they are successful, but most of the time they just leave before the games starts. The game actually starts with players in the lobby that do not have the map. What happens? Oh a nice xbox download screen comes up with the price of the maps of course! There is no way to join game lobbies that will only play just the maps you haven't paid extra for (like in CoD4). Say you have a decent connection to the host, or are the host yourself. Guess what, because of this craptacular map system, you'll be joining another lobby soon.

i don't understand what my statement has to do with run-time characteristics of cod either...
I was at a lose of words earlier (and maybe you misunderstood me), but what I was trying to say that clearly Infinity Ward didn't compress the files of the game very well like most developers do, and hence the large size.
