Total noob here. I played this game for a month a year back and I decided to reactivate my account. I didn't know anyone in the game but now I'm starting with 2 friends. I'm completely stomped on what to do. Could someone help me out a bit?

I say in GA that some guy wants to 1v1 me in my firetail vs his dram. I say he's an idiot if he thinks I'm going to fight him. Michael asks where he is, I tell him. Someone asks who it is, I say Nergalion. You proceed to fail reading comprehension and say something along the lines of "he's not an idiot you're an idiot. He's a really good 1v1 frig pilot"

Edit: Oh, and then when I ask why he told me I didn't need to worry about gate guns, you told me he was a pirate and that I was dumb. So, I called you an ass, because not only did you jump into a conversation which you knew nothing about, you didn't bother reading everything that had happened in the conversation.

In actuality you gave a shit recap of the entire situation. It started with an evemail about "free shoot red", then you said he was dumb if he wanted to 1v1, then I said all he does is frig 1v1s and he's pretty good at them, and asked what you were in and you said he was dumb again and that you were in a Firetail. Then moved on to local chat with nergalion, then returned to evemail. Then I told you he's a pirate and what he meant was that you can shoot him without taking gate guns, then it returned to him being dumb again, and which point I called you dumb because you weren't making any fucking sense and then you insult me.

yeha, my first ever 1on1 fight and lost it without a chance. What happened in a nutshell:
Saw a helios, we were both looking for each other and he warped to me on 70km range on plan IV (I was on 70km, he warped to 0), which gave me enough time to ask in GA, since I NEVER did 1v1.
So I asked if I can beat a helios in a basic rifter, tofu said yes, I engaged, I died.
When I was talking about basic rifter I was talking about fleet rifter, which I know sux in 1v1 but hell, it's a cov-ops and tofu thought I was talking about a basic 1v1 rifter 
Go ahead flame me for being a noob
Nevertheless, I would actually like to get a bit into 1v1ing to get some experience. So I know there's a solo-rifter fit in corp, is that going to work? What do I need skillwise? Would be awesome if someone could tell me a few things and how to get startet or if this is a completly retarded idea in the first place and I will only end up screwing corp stats.

I'm thinking of taking my Dramiel out for a spin soon, Apart from Gall Frig V and Traj Analysis IV/V what else would people recommend?

What you asking is if the solo fit rifter is any good for solo. I honestly dont know what to say. Maybe you should take a look at it. If you show info on modules and go to the prerequisites tab you can see if you can use them as well as what skills you need to use them.
But then again you dont even know if the solo rifter fit is good for soloing. I would have to agree it's hard to tell since you arent able to tell the purpose of a fit by its name.
Seriously though a properly fit battle helios or buzzard is going to give most frigates trouble unless you are able to literally start on 0 with everything heated. And dont use the fleet tackle fit for 1v1. Its purpose is to be really fast and cheap to quickly get tackle on something, then die, not something you tend to want out of a 1v1 fit.

This could have all been avoided had you taken the time to read the first three lines before jumping in to voice your ((irrelevant)) opinion. Maybe things would have made more sense to you if you'd read everything? One thing I will thank you for, though, is telling me I could shoot pirates even if there were gate guns.

Nergalion is a pirate. This means that you can shoot him anywhere at any time and gateguns will not protect him. It does not matter what your personal security status is. If your target as -5.0 or lower security status or is at war with you, or is agressed to you by any other means such as stealing loot from your can, he will appear red on your overview and you can shoot him without gateguns protecting him. If you have -5.0 or lower sec status, are at war with someone, or steal from their can then they can shoot you without gateguns hitting them.
Also if you fire on someone then they can fire back without gateguns hitting them as long as you shoot first. Since we kind of are pirates and everything I would expect you to know this already as it has to do with basic lowsec agression mechanics. This leads me to agree with tofu about the part where you are being dumb. Stop being dumb.
It also looked like tofu didnt see the first 2 lines of the chatlog, which would explain his response.
