I never heard of CCP until I became involved in DUST 514. A free FPS that looked like a solid game. I really enjoyed being able to be a part of this from the ground up as a beta player and all. Sure the game had its faults, but they were being fixed and with the players help, my help, we shaped it into something solid. I felt like I was part of a strange family, sure a digital one, but family. Then I hear about this Fanfest and CCP really pushing DUST players to come up to Iceland and enjoy the party on top of the world. A party with the rest of the family and to meet EVE players as well as other DUST players. I am a family man and really wanted my family to experience the CCP and EVE family. We flew up here to join in on the Fanfest activities. My wife and little boy. Hopefully will try to get him another sibling to pick on later this year! (still trying) At first things were great. It was interesting to walk around and introduce yourself as a DUST only player and everyone was so friendly. I meet a ton of people. Things were great. Finally, after all the other stuff we get to the DUST presentation. For a moment I felt special. This was a presentation about me and the rest of my friends who play DUST. A presentation for us and to become closer to the rest of this family here at CCP and with EVE. Everyone around me knew I was a DUST only player it seemed. Never in all my life have I been this utterly embarrassed to be somewhere. To really feel executed on the spot and all eyes on you. I felt like the biggest fool in the universe. My wife just covered her mouth and looked at me with pity. It felt as if everyone was looking at me for a reaction. Every single moment after that it seemed like my family and I had leprosy. People steered clear and ended conversations as fast as possible and vanished. I just don't know how else to explain it. I have never in all my life felt this betrayed and publicly humiliated. I wish I never came up here. Also https://i.imgur.com/z1eWs8P.jpg looks like they will implement semi single account across the triumverate of Eve, Dust(see: Project Legion), and Valkyrie I remain highly skeptical that this backtracking is mostly damage control BS, that will be quietly forgotten when they realize that they're going to spend 2-4 years redeveloping the game. Alas some amusing things I found digging through the Legion information. In an amazing move, CCP has decided that they want to abandon the current SP mechanics of Dust 514, where SP is earned over time and through playing then assigned to skills that adjust stats and what suits you can use, you know like Eve online uses, its apparently garbage. They would like to transition to the console style of unlocks through kills used in current FPS console games, strangely ditching a large part of the market since suits apparently may be free once unlocked, I suppose modules may still be a part of the market. However, all talks seemed to foster the idea of a more hardcoded class system rather than the current hodgepodge of customization. (Dust suits are entertainingly far more customizable than Eve ships for a myriad of reasons and partially because CCP Shanghai may have never actually played eve and had no idea how to balance fitting costs) The part that baffles me is that as the game ditches their console market it adopts the systems they would want while the systems most suited and already used by their new market, the PC crowd already playing eve is dropped. Its a comedy of backwards motion where their new game will apparently be designed towards the people they're leaving. The progression changes were apparently what started off the first dev interviews saying that progression from Dust wouldnt realistically transfer, that and the fact that while Dust SP is clearly stated on their own servers, our login is tied to sony servers and thus transferring and validating our information has its own set of legal hurdles to overcome.

Whaaaat no SP, free shit, class system bullshit. This is what makes Eve Eve, not Teamfortress. It always sounds good when CCP announces shit, then like the day or week after people start realizing, hey.....wait a minute. Edit: also where did you find that information

I know this advice has been given before, but if you're a new guy and worried about isk you should not be mining. Minmatar faction warfare is at T4 right now. In the same amount of time as one round of venture mining you could likely make 50 million isk by killing 1 NPC and orbiting a button. Even if you don't want to do FW long-term and you just really love shooting rocks, go do FW for a few weeks and make a couple billion isk. Then go back to whatever you enjoy.

CCP never irritates anyone - they are gods among developers when it comes to customer relations. (Obvious sarcasm is obvious.) Still, if your entire experience is in Dust, and you spend (probably) upwards of a grand to go to Iceland and bring your family so you can meet the developers, hang out with other people, and embrace the community CCP has helped to forge - it probably would be a kick in the teeth to hear that the game you're all about is getting less resources and becoming a PC port that may be better. (Also, I think the keynote may have poorly communicated some things.) I don't think I'd be that butthurt by it, but it would definitely put a damper on the fermented shark festivities.

http://failheap-challenge.com/showthread.php?16546-EVE-Legion&p=1079876&viewfull=1#post1079876 Believe me when i say that CCP were repeatedly, clearly and strongly advised not to announce it like that, and that they were told exactly what would happen if they did. By the time FF rolled around Hans and the rest of the CPM were pretty much in the "fuck it, we tried, now let's watch these idiots faceplant" zone. One of the most amusing parts of FF was me personally - knowing what I know - being told by CCP Sabrewing that "The CPM is still a young institution and has a long way still to grow before it gets to he same level as the CSM". Hans was standing right next to me when he said that. The CPM summit is due any day now. Should be fun times. Some Dev Posts: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2130378#post2130378 Hi guys I'll do what I can to answer some of your questions over the next few days. ![]() - Project Legion will be determined to be a "go" or a "no go" when Hilmar et al. sign off on it. We obviously really want it to grow in to a real boy and become everything this game's vision is made out to be. It's not at the point in development for that call to be made just yet. - Character transfer is a no-brainer from a conceptual standpoint, but it's specifics are difficult from a development standpoint. I understand the frustration that it wasn't made crystal clear during the keynote. Let me elaborate a little as to why it's difficult, though. As presented in CCP Z's talk, we're working super hard on developing a progression system and economy that will kick ass. So, if some things may not exist or make sense should Legion become a reality, then those items couldn't carry over (in their current form, anyway). Rest assured though, we will do what we can to preserve what is currently there and figure out solutions for what is not. That is my current understanding. ![]() - I have seen no plans relating to DUST 514 shutting down at this time. We're still working on some things for it and over the next few weeks (and once I'm back in Shanghai) hopefully I can figure out more of what that will entail. - It's too early to be able to talk about Recommend Hardware Specs, although I know that the guys are starting to pull a rough idea of these together. The game is still being heavily developed and little has been done in the way of optimization just yet, but this will obviously happen. When we have an idea of minimum specs I'll try to get them out to you. Keep poking. - Solid timeframe for Alpha / Beta is also impossible to give right now, because the truth is that we honestly don't know until the Project is green-lit. Once that happens then we'll be able to try and formalize those plans. Ultimately, I don't want to leave you guys in the dark. It was difficult to remain closed-lipped about the announcement of Project Legion prior to Fanfest (trust me!), but it's my intention to try and share as much as I can with you in the meantime. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2130151#post2130151 We're well aware of it. But we haven't come up with the solution yet as we need to assemble a few more pieces on the puzzle before we can start looking at that part of the picture. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2130106#post2130106 This is absolutely true. We are aware that if we drop people into the game with what they have now, they'll have a very large advantage. But at the same time, we're looking to do a bit better in flattening out the power tiers so that someone without the actual player skill (as opposed to character skill) isn't going to be able to use character skills and equipment to win a fight. But it's still a question we need to answer, and we're well aware of the need to balance carrying over the investment versus creating overpowered monsters at launch. As I said hopefully having a better overall balance will let us give as much as possible. https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2130058#post2130058 Skill points is more likely that just bringing over skills that exist in both. However, exactly how they would translate from DUST 514 to Legion is yet to be seen. Main thing we're waiting on for that is for the new progression system to be completed: it's a bit hard to work out how we could move things from one system to the other when the new one isn't finished yet. The best way to look at it overall though is we want to carry over the investment you guys have made in DUST 514 into Legion. When you think about it in that context, even if things don't translate exactly you can see what we want to do. And to quote Abom: The irony to me is that the current systems are far more palpable to PC players yet seem to be moving to what would be acceptable to console fps players and this other guy "We needed to develop Legion for PC in order to make it the console shooter it was always meant to be."

There have been complaints that small scale PvP is too hard to find for years now. Some people may be fine with roaming for hours, but that doesn't make it any less ridiculous. The only thing they've come up with so far is the FW themepark, which just doesn't deliver at all in my opinion. It's definitely not the kind of PvP I'm looking for in EVE. The sheer existence of RvB is proof that the game itself does not create enough tension between players. Yet CCP has done nothing to change that. There is little reason to go to lowsec apart from 'YARR I'M A PIRATE :D'. Wormholes add even more barriers you must pass to get PvP. Nullsec in most cases is either dead or camped. I've read about some of their intended changes to lowsec and I dearly hope that they do something drastic to really shake up the place.

Sadly CCP really doesn't mind / care to much about this. Becuase the fact is- the solo and small gang community make up for less than 1% of the total eve population. Now if you go and ask on the forums, everyone is a solo / small gang PvP god. However in practice this is just not the case. Having just gone to fanfest this year, and speaking with Rize and Fozzie for some time one on one, don't expect this to change anytime soon. The average eve player is such a waste of skin when it comes to general PvP knowledge- that when the entire space sheep crowd is bleating away at CCP, our voices are drowned out. However this is some small hope. Unknowingly- CCP may have added some extra content that will be helpful for small gang. The new faction Mordus pirates are going to only be found in Low sec. This is going to be really nice, becuase its going to draw a metric fuck ton of new blood into low sec. You are going to have people who are going to running the sites, and the people hunting descending into low sec space. Also with the addition of rare ore into low sec, the possibility of having more mining people in belts could also happen. Throw in the new indy / miner rework and there could be some hope. Either way, with the new WH changes about to take effect, small gang PvP is getting harder and harder to get. People like to win at eve. And winning is blobbing, F1ing, ECMing and generally playing like a little fuck at all times to ensure that the average players very small and easily breakable ego stays in one piece. Eve is one giant world of Dunning Kruger. Fanfest proved this to me beyond a shadow of a doubt.
