That Algos seems totally pointless outside of one very specific role (you're in a fleet and have someone else to do the tackling). You can't kill anyone on your own because you have no tackle. When you enter a plex you are going to be close to the NPC you have to kill. Why do you need 100km of engagement range?
If you just want to farm plexes a T1 frigate is likely your best bet because it can enter all plexes. If you like drones, try a Tristan. I like the 3 neut version.

I just Zimmerman'd some blues. Maybe I had no legal grounds to execute them but I believed their actions were threatening and I took steps to make myself feel safe and to stand my ground.

Debating picking up Eve as a past-time during the summer holidays, and a small hobby during university times. I know it is a rather bias place to ask, but would Eve be a recommendable game for that? I want something with a degree of difficulty, and a decent sense of progress and from what I have seen EVE looks to have that.
Any advice or such would be appreciated

If you consider wading through neck deep mud a decent sense of progress and you enjoy getting beat down repeatedly by people who do not know what they are doing for at least two month an adequate degree of difficulty then it is the right game for you.

The optimal drone combination for damage is:
Hammerhead II x 2 Hobgoblin II x 3
Although I prefer most of the time to use five Hobgoblin IIs plus a flight of Warrior IIs in reserve to throw at fast frigates.
EHP: 6397.0 DPS: 272 with the 2 x HHI + 3 x HGII combo, 219 with HGIIs or 178 with Warrior IIs Speed: 1673m/s Capacitor: stable at 31.6% Optimal range: Targetting to 124.2km, drone range is 114km, although 100km is ideal. Cost: 11m ISK approx. Do you think it would be fine to aim for this kind of ship to farm some plex via faction warfare early on? It would take 47 seconds for a hammerhead 2 to travel 124km even with the speed boost from the algos; that's enough time to finish your tea, watch a youtube video and jack off before warping out. Then you have to wait ANOTHER 47 seconds for them to fly back before you can give chase.
As Cath pointed out if you're doing FW you'll almost always start a fight within 30km, so there's no point to any range beyond that.
But most important is the combat speed of drones, the orbit velocity of a hammerhead 2 is 480m/s so without a way to slow them down any frig, destroyer or cruiser with any prop mod at all will take zero damage from it. hobgoblin 2 goes 660m/s and warrior 2 are fastest at 900m/s, so any frig with an AB or MWD is still faster, as well as any cruiser with a MWD.
"So what the hell are drones good for then?" you ask. Well honestly not a lot, but you can make them work if you fit a scram and if possible a web. That means you want a brawling ship rather than a kiting one. Lucky for you the algos makes for a great brawling/gank boat!

Old podla version has less reps, more buffer, and doesn't need a cap transfer

Been flying my nano zealot a lot today because it has the point. Not sure I've been especially getting more kills because of it though, I had a ratting gnosis but got falconed, most of the things I point have either been so small they'd have died anyway or pretty big. Only big kill that was 100% cause of the point was when firebolt and I went oracle zealot vs 2x cynabal and a vaga and we killed a cynabal before they gtfoed. Still, better than killing nothing.
Would definitely not be comfortable flying snakeless in the zealot though. Also increasingly uncomfortable with the capacitor of the ONI, it's definitely a burst ship with my current fit. Thinking this, with dual LSE and a PDS, may be better. + Show Spoiler +[Omen Navy Issue, dual LSE]

I tried flying a nomen with an 800plate, was pretty good IMO. Gives you the mid slot for a cap booster. I could see one with a medium ancil being okay, maybe 1 energized adaptive. Didn't they just give amarr a buff for armor agility/speed? Maybe worth a try if the only thing holding you back is the cap. You could have mwd/cap/point on it. Maybe drop the pds and a nano for a 800mm/resist.
|
mwd, medium cap booster and a point works perfectly fine on the ONI. Then you put an ancillary armor rep in the low slot and the other usual stuff and you are good to go. I get the feeling kwark thinks a bit too complicated
|
Agree. MAAR Nomen is standard for a reason. Fixes the cap issues completely.

So some snaked RF point deadspace mwd deimos are fucking around outside the FA staging system while FA have a fleet up. I talk to their FC, explain I can get a scram on a deimos and we can kill and pod him if he just is ready to have fleet undock and warp to the X. He says he understands. I then do my bit and I hold the deimos for a full minute. First thing to land on grid, as I die, is a mega. Fucking FA. That was a free fucking 4b isk kill served to them on a plate.

Ok, I did some reading and decided to not go with Gallente bullshit. Please give some tips on cheap but effective Punisher with which I'll be able to farm some plex/run early missions.

What kind of reading did you do D:

Tormentor seems to be more popular. Can find fits later but start there.

Well, I was checking various fits, racial specialities etc. and I think that pew pew lasers and armor tank are the way to go for me (don't have to remember about ammo etc.) because I'm a lazy bastard. Just need to figure out a ship that will have OK dps and tank while running stable cap (if that's even possible).
|
you almost never get cap stability with any kind of fit that makes sense, and (faction)ammo is dirt cheap :3
