it's the way your passive shield regeneration works. if you start leaking dmg to armor at 5% shields you have more passive regeneration(hence a bit more tank) than if you would drop to 0 at which point your passive regen is more or less 0. the bonus is not big but training it to V gives nothing in return and just slightly nerfs you.

I always giggle a little inside when i see tactical at V and thermo at 3 or not at all trained on a character.

I'd train the shield comps to 5 first, and only because of how passive hardeners work on them vs. t2 active resist variants.
And I probably wouldn't even do that

Any argument made by anyone not in Hatchery has no value because they don't play eve. TSM V is objectively bad. You want it not injected ideally but invulns so good.

I've never even had my shield leak into armor with TSM IV and I've tested it by passive tanking and holding at sub-10% shield before. My armor didn't move through 10 minutes of being fired at. Don't see why you'd ever train it to V.

that's not the point, the point is you want it to leak. ideally you wouldn't train TSM at all since leaking at 25% is actually good for you because your shield regen degrades after 30% and you'd rather the armor soaks the damage while your shield keeps nearer its optimal recharge rate. unfortunately its required to IV for tech 2 hardeners

Wow. Are there any other skills in EVE where training it makes your character objectively WORSE than it would be if you didn't train anything at all? I always figured that the worst skills in EVE were just ones you would never use, making them cost SP for 0 return. Never thought you could get a negative return from training a skill.

The Afterburner skill increases the duration of the module which can be bad for dual-prop fits if you really need to pulse your MWD instead of AB. Armor Resistance Phasing makes the cap use on the new armor hardener pretty ridiculous. Those are the only ones I can think of.

Drone navigation fucks the tracking of scout drones too.
On an unrelated note, I made 32b doing basic PvE that anyone can do in about 8 hours of actual bearing. :CCP:

The drones eventually cycle down their MWDs once they reach the target, so the tracking is only fucked over for a short time.

Hm, I just tested it and indeed it only seems to affect MWD speed. It wasn't the most rigorous test possible, but it was enough to convince me!
