Just started. Cruised around in the starting ship for a while doing basic missions. Bought a slightly better ship (merlin I think) but I couldn't fly it. Eventually I worked out how to advance skills and set them training. Can anyone who knows their way round EVE pm me if they're willing to help a noob (or another noob who wants to do shit together)?

I didn't list them in order of rank. The game is pretty well-balanced. It depends on what you want to do. For example, Caldari is great for missions, and therefore, making isk. However, many of their ships are not suited for solo pvp.

If you're just beginning and want to know about fitting your ships.
Visit the eve forums and scrapheap-challenge.com. It's difficult at first but everything will become intuitive after a while. Like, don't try to fit both a shield and armor tank and try not to mix your guns.

o, and EFT is very handy: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=548883

Each race has pros and cons and they all go through cycles of nerfs and buffs.

The thing that puts newbies off the most is learning skills. I should tell you about them now because the earlier you get them, the faster you will skill up.

Problem is, getting them to a high level usually burn out a lot of newbies.
A lot of people will tell you to train them right away.
It is optimal, in terms of advancing SP, to do this but it leads to a lot of frustration. IRC correctly, getting all basic and advanced learning skills to 4 takes 2-3 months.

Don't focus entirely on those, train them at your leisure. IMO, it's much better to train for skills that let you use the items/ships you want.

O, and just because you chose Amarr or Gallente, it doesn't mean that you can't crosstrain to use other races ships. But we're usually talking about way in the future.

I flew with Goonfleet for over a year and a half, about the last six months of which or so was spent with Goonfleet Black Ops. Black Ops was unique in that it really eschewed the normal "use it and lose it" approach Goonfleet usually took towards ships, and exclusively focused on damaging our enemies' economies and morale before the bulk of the fleet arrived.

We did this by using either cloaked or very mobile ships to move into areas the enemy ostensibly "controlled", and setting up camp. Our objective was to break enemy morale by killing them without them ever being allowed to return the favor, and to disrupt their economic activity by killing anything that wasn't an organized PvP gang. There would be anywhere between 5-30 of us online in the target region at a time. We would keep our clients running at all times, and because EVE doesn't have a automatic logout feature, it would be very difficult for our opponents to know whether we were active or not. Basically, it meant that they either withdrew into the safety of their stations whenever we were online (which was 23/7), or they played roulette every time they undocked in a PvE ship (since they were guessing that we were AFK).

Basically we denied them any use of their space for PvE purposes, made PvP pointless (as we'd just cloak or run away before they could engage us), and broke their morale, making them failure cascade even quicker once the main Fleet arrived.

kwark i advice u to get into a caracal and train missiles, imo caldari is the way to go if u want missions or ratting mostly cos other races it will take more time to train for them to be effective, i mean gunnery cap skills and all that shit takes way longer then caldari does. Or jst try to npc hunt in 0.0 gives good rewards and its not so dangerous if u learn basics like chinese ppl do! i mean have a cloack fitted and always stay align towards safespot ( best to be near some planet or sun) and when u get in the belt with rats start shooting them and imediatly align for safespot so u`ll never get caught. GL if u have any questions i might answer pretty fast cos i stay alot around computer hf

While our clients were logged in that much, about 90% of the time we were AFK. If I was writing a paper or something, I'm just tab into the game, run a scan to see if anybody was active, and then tab out if they weren't. That way we could have round-the-clock presence in their systems without playing more than 1-2 hours a day.

Goons are crazy, I tell you. Im in their alliance in one other somewhat similar game, and sheesh... There's a strong goon presence in one of the servers already, and pretty much none in another one. So instead of just setting up the alliance there and working their way up they come up with some half-assed plan:

1) About 15 goons create new accounts
2) All of them join different clans, preferably top ones.
3) Level up, milk as much stuff from those alliances as possible
4) When high enough level, leave the clan
5) Steal whatever possible
6) Reform into real alliance and kick arse based on all the information stolen.

Wtf, seriously.
My future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

goons are playin` dirty since i know them, i mean even broke into bob ts and recorded conversations sometimes i hear w/o beeing actually in that chat so they have good hackers thats for sure, and their dream to take down bob kinda has been achieved mainly using dirty stuff cos i dont think they ever been capable to win solo a fight vs them, Remember last year january events when they got to nol- i mean with the entire coalition and after russians leaving them cos of oort levi loss they were slaughtered so hard and thrown back rapidly! and i dont wanna comment recent events cos i havent talked with bob leaders recently and dont know that well situation but didnt sound right what i read about it.

meh, goons may be retarded but they've never claimed otherwise. In fact, they embrace their shitposting.

BoB has always tried to take the moral high ground on everything. In actuality, BoB were the first entity to truly utilize metagaming and propaganda.

The problem is that they're fighting a force better at metagaming and "forum warefare."

I mean, when was BoB's last meaningful victory over anyone? They've been riding their victories in the north for gods know how long.

Trading can net you the most possible money, but it's extremely risky and you can lose everything if you make a poor investment. 'ratting or doing missions is extremely slow in comparison but you won't lose anything unless you're retarded, especially in empire space. EVE draws a lot of parallels from the real world in that regard.

Minmatar all the way. Maybe I'm 100% biased, but Hurricanes are the best mofuggin looking ships
in the game. I'm all aesthetics baby.

Stabbers are the shit as well.

God, just go Minmatar.
