PvP as well as space combat are a great way to stay ahead! In addition to that, they also tend to solve some of your money problems.
About commendations - I could write a whole bunch of stuff here but tbh it would be too long and pointless. I have leveled several characters in this game and I have found myself opting for commendation rewards far more than the greens. The only time I ever picked a green over a commendation was when the green was a large enough upgrade (usually 8 item levels or more). If you get yourself some orange gear and diligently fill it with your commendation-bought armoring/mods etc. that scenario should rarely happen (and if it does it's usually the bracers/belt which are harder to get in orange).
The exception to this for me has been companion gear rewards. No matter how you cut it, a single commendation is not worth an entire item slot upgrade on your companion. So unless you manage to keep your companion's gear updated through other means (random drops, GTN, etc.), the green companion rewards are a great way to do it. Lastly, don't forget to cash in all your commendations after you're done with a planet! They cannot be converted into anything useful later, so use them up when your level is appropriate.

Yeah, PvP is a great way to level! On all my alts I will only do class missions + PvP and maybe some space combat(I really like the space combat, but not as much as PvP). For me PvP actually became a problem, because I liked it so much that I over leveled on the missions I was on, so I didn't get any experience for them from about level 35-45

I'm wondering if I should spend my commendation on mods as you describe or orange gear? As a Sentinel you get 2 orange light sabers for free but on Courscant the 2 you buy from the commendation vendors are much better, not only the mods but the damage stats as well.
Does the weapon damage stat ever play a role? I don't think I have any skills that say "Does Weapon damage +100" or maybe I've just read them wrong. Does weapon damage and/or force power increase the damage of my abilities?
Still having a blast, time to kick some traitor ass tonight! :D

Pretty funny hearing about commendation rewards where I have often chosen commendations in the quest rewards choice but I have never spent the commendations on anything. Just leveled too fast, pvp'd too much (to actually go to a planet and buy something).
Still LOVING PvP in this game.

All orange items have the same base stats and level with your character. It is the mods that make the commendation vendor lightsabers seem to do more damage. I believe it is the hilt modifiction that effects damage.

Orange items consist of 4 parts: #1 The shell (this is purely cosmetic - it is the "item" but without ANY stats) #2 the hilt/barrel/armoring (this is the "main" and hence most expensive part - in addition to granting primary stats and endurance, it grants damage or armor rating) #3 the mod (this grants main stat/endurance/secondary stat) #4 the enhancement (this grants endurance/secondary stat/secondary stat)
The price of armoring (7) + mod (2) + enhancement (2) = 11 commendations. As far as I know, there are NO orange items that would cost this amount or less, I believe the average is 14. Which means that if you buy an orange item instead of just replacing the components of the orange item you already own, you're paying 3 commendations for the new appearance. . You could argue that weapons are the exception to this because you also get a new color crystal, which grants secondary stats. However, I dare say that the stats in the crystal are such a small part of the overall weapon, it is never worth it to spend 3 commendations for it. The only time I'd consider doing this is when the crystal would be of a unique color (ex. orange) that I wanted and the prices on the GTN were absurd... that depends on your server though.

Aaahh, man that's a shocker! Alright then, mods it is!
Thanks again!

As gunslinger all my attacks are labeled tech or ranged, and all ranged does weapon damage+X (or x*weapon damage) even when tooltip says only the damage range. You can see the tooltip damage changes if you equip weapon with different damage. I think tech abilities do same thing based on tech power.

Lol I just got an email from them that you can save $10 when you buy the game now. Sure does look like they have 1.7mil subs if they're already having a sale not even 2 months after the game came out...

Regardless of how many subs they have, having a sale is still a good way to increase subs. They will always be looking to acquire more subscriptions no matter how many people are playing.
You still see world of warcraft ad's and free trials everywhere, and you certainly still saw them at WoW's peak when they had 12 million subs. Heck they were even offering 2 weeks free for a while there when they had 10 mill subs to bring players back in.
Having a sale really isnt a sign of anything, its just a marketing strategy, and i bet thats if you bought it from origin where they make 100% profit pretty much, even with the 10 dollars off its still a heck of alot more than theyd make if someone bought the game retail.

Alright, I did some checking up on the whole orange/mods situation on Courscant.
For light sabers, they held level 5 mods/hilts/crystals but the mods you could buy were level 4. This might not be true on all planets but I bought myself 2xLS and some armor mods for my 30+ commendations.

I tried this game in beta, my opinion was that everything except the RPG element was quite dull. How easy would you say it is to go through the game just for the story elements? I remember having very few "kill this thing" quests, would it be possible to just play a stealth character, stealth past the uninteresting combat and just go straight to the quests without falling so behind in XP that I'm unable to continue? I don't really have any interest in the endgame stuff or crafting, but the story elements were really well done.

I actully did just that with my Scoundrel and you get underleveled fast.

Just compensate by doing some pvp. Especially with the dailies pvp gives quite a bit of experience. And it is more fun than doing quests anyway (at least for me).

Damn, just got to create my Legacy. I had planed an awesome name and even created an alt just for the purpose of matching perfectly with the Legacy-name. Turns out you can't have a space or more than 15 characters so my plan was foiled Oh well, still enjoying the game tremendously though!
Would have been cool to have a sith named Wowbagger, the Infinitely Prolonged going around insulting the universe

I don't really have any interest in the endgame stuff or crafting, but the story elements were really well done. The quests are very similair to other mmo's but with added story elements and context. Which for me makes all the difference. You actuallly feel like what your doing matters more. Also Each planet has at least 2 very interesting storylines that are worth following. 1 is the main planet quest chain which is actually quite long, the second is the bonus series(bonus series quest chains can take 3 or more hours for some of them) that becomes available after you finish the main planet storyline. Also of course each planet has the class storyline chain as well.
Its totally worth it to do the planet storylines though , most of them are really well done.

1.2 is coming out soon. I have a few cocerns about the full modifiable epics. If they continue releasing the same small amount gear in each operation and HM FP. For instance right now Hard Mode Flashpoints drop the same gear as Normal Mode Operations , 8 and 16 man normal operations drop the same loot as well, the commendation vendors for the commendations you get from Hard mode Flashpoints and normal mode operations also give you the exact same gear that drops from them. Basically they just recycled alot of gear into the different modes of the game, my concern is that because they are introducing fully modifiable epics where you can take out the armoring with the set bonus and put it in orange gear, they will continue to release a very small amount of gear per raid/ new Flashpoint. Since everyone will want to look unique because of the lack of end game gear (and the fact that there is only 1 option for gear to wear at the very high end of gear, which is tier sets) im worried that epic items will simply become a container for modifications that people will put into their orange items. This creates a problem, on one side you have orange items which arent a challenge to get they arent rare alot of them you get from lower level heroic quests or fromm planet commendations , you dont have to fight a big bad boss to get them. Then on the other side you have modifications which arent unique in anyway they simply have a name on them that represents what stats they increase.
These 2 things put together create a problem in gear progression, suddenly you are farming raids for modifications to put into easy to aquire orange items, it takes the sense of wonder out of acquiring gear, now when you get a new piece of gear you probably wont be putting it on (if BW sticks with the system of having a very small amount of gear per raid/boss) because you wont want to look the same as everyone else, you will be taking its modifications out and putting them in an item your already wearing or at the very least an item you already have. Does anyone else see a problem here? It would be fine if they did this and had a wide variety of end game PVE drops, but they dont and the only reason people were asking for orange items to be viable in the end game was because of the sheer lack of end game gear. It seems like a complicated solution to the simple problem that they need more drops that arent part of sets in this game. Currently the only drops for end game PVE come from basically 4 sets, the tier sets (which all basically look the same) exotech, xenotech, and energized. Thats it there isnt any unique gear that isnt part of sets.
The problem with this game right now is progression happens too fast, when i formed my new guild, the first night i did 6 hard mode flashpoints and ran normal mode EV by the end of the day i had a full columi set (basically tier 2) on top of that we cleared normal EV in just a few hours with minimal wipes our first time there. The problem isnt even really the difficulty hard mode operations give a decent amount of challenge and KP is certainly harder than EV. The problem is the gear progression comes and goes too quickly. 4 pieces of gear drop per boss in an 8 man raid, just as a comparison , in wow 2 pieces dropped off a 10 man boss, I never once felt cheated or like they were giving me too little gear in wow 10 man raids 2 pieces was perfectly acceptable. I just dont understand why BW purposely decided to gimp their gear progression with things like this.
Its rather dissapointing to see a game I like so much go in this direction. I really hope they are doing this on top of adding a bunch of end game epics, but i have a very strong feeling that it wont be the case =(

Well the aussie servers came up. It was nice reserving names and whatnot. 31-39ms ping was frigen awesome!
Unfortunately delaying transfers till ppls 3mth subs run out pretty much ensures i'll never play on em. Game just doesnt keep u engaged past the personal storyline. My whole guild that waited years for its release has basically stopped playing it altogether a mth ago. I might.. might resub once they extend the storyline but otherwise i see no point.
GG Bioware.

Yeah, I can't see this game living a long time. Anyone know how many active players it is now?

I dont think there has been a statement of growth given in a while so its anybodies guess. Last sale count was 2mil i think so I guess since there has been no 3mil celebration that its not actualy growing a lot anymore.
