Team Liquid Pokemon. This is a game we used to play on an old forum I went to (also unrelated to pokemon, also not called Team Liquid Pokemon). The premise is simple. The thread creator starts a game of pokemon, that the entire forum participates in.
-If this is a success, there may be a round two in Crystal, a round 3 in Emerald, and a round 4 in Diamond or Pearl.
Participation Includes -Naming Pokemon -Naming Trainer -Choosing movesets -Choosing what parties to use -Where to go -Etc.
So first things first.
Name the trainer.
Think of a name, and PM it to me with the title "Trainer Name". I will choose one PM at random, and this will be the name of the main trainer. If the name is too long I will pick another PM at random. Keep in mind there is a 7 character limit.
Next, the rivals name. PM me with title "Rival Name" and the same business will occur.
Lastly, a poll as to which starter to choose. The results will be announced at midnight PST, and the starter with highest votes will be chosen.
Poll: What starter shall be chosen? (Vote): Bublasaur (Vote): Charmander (Vote): Squirtle
Remember, having TL make EVERY decision is a pain, so I will split each town/surrounding routes into sections. I will ask what is to be done in each section, and after a good number of posts discussing that, I'll go about it.
Feel free to discuss ways in which this should be done differently (or at all), and if it runs smoothly good fun should be had.
IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AT ALL PLEASE PM ME.
MAJOR UPDATE PAGE LOCATION Game Update #1- Page 6 Section 2 Poll- Page 7 Game Update #2- Page 8
But don't you want it to be able to harden right away? How embarassing would it be to not be able to harden in a situation where you needed to because it just wasn't ready yet?
1. At 12:00 AM, PST I'll be opening 2 random PM's to determine Trainer and Rivals name. 2. Charmander is winning in the poll, I also voted for Charmander, but keep in mind it's difficult to beat Brock with Charmander.
Now, at midnight I will also begin playing, so start the discussion.
Section 1- Pallet Town and Route 1
Available Pokemon: Pidgey, Rattata
Unless otherwise stated, I won't do anything secret. I'm not using a walkthrough, so I don't know the locations of all secret items and stuff. So if I should get something that is out of the way, you need to post it.

well, somethingawful started a Let's Play series that was fairly successful, and carried onto other forums. theres been some pretty good runs, like a well-RP'd earthbound playthrough, a glitchrun of super metroid, glitchrun of pokemon blue, etc

Not true. As a pokemon tourneyfag, Charizard has the best stats of the three starters. He has great Phys. Atk, so putting him in as a staple Physical Sweeper is a great choice. He becomes even more useful in G/S, with belly drum.

Too bad Charizard takes 4x from most popular moves in the game, and has a bad special

He's unusable now, but he used to be a staple. In G/S/C and R/B

I know the cheat, but when the time comes, I'll do a poll as to whether or not to do it. Some people (like myself) would take more pleasure in the work taken to raise a pokemon properly, or catch it.

you said no fire type has ever been a staple in competitive play. In GS bellyzard was OU and charizard was still BL in RBY
interesting fact though: typhlosion and charizard have the exact same stats, just different move pools
ha, my bad. When I said that, I meant RBY, and Salac Berry wasn't available in GSC so you end up with a 50% Charizard that is open to a good Rock Slide.
I said with the advent of Belly Drum he became even more widely used.
But along with Machamp he was a pretty huge Physical Sweeper in RBY.
Persian, Sandslash, Tauros, and Machamp are all better than Charizard as physical sweepers, because they didn't have that fatal weakness (though Machamp's psychic was a bit annoying).
Tauros can STAB Hyper Beam, Body Slam or pull off a Blizzard/Earthquake. Machamp can just be a machamp and own shit up. Persian can STAB Hyper Beam, and Slash, or Bubblebeam that Rhydon/Golem, OR Thunderbolt that Gengar for Paralysis. Sandslash can Swords Dance, Earthquake (STAB LOL), and Rock Slide your charizard. Charizard can pull off a decent Earthquake, and it just ends there.

I forgot about Sandslash. I am aware that a fairly decent amount of successful teams did thrown in Charizard as both a mixed and physical sweeper. In R/B/Y, but mostly in G/S/C
We should clarify what our intentions for this round is. Do we actually want to build a tourney-level team or do we just want to crush trainers and gym leaders?
If we want the former, I don't have much input because I've really only played pokemon when I was too young to care about"tailoring my team to beat the metagame," but it seems that most people agree that charmander is not a good choice for this.
If we want the latter, I would have to go for charmander or bulbasaur (I usually get gyarados as my water type). Since this is blue version, I'm leaning toward charmander just because there is no growlithe and thus no early fire type pokemon that is decent. Charmander has ember, learns flamethrower relatively early, and completely owns the bug and grass gyms. Also, since Brock comes early (that's what she said!), I don't think he is easily beatable with charmander as long as you train a bit in the beginning. Misty can easily be beaten with a Pikachu caught in Viridian forest. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that training charmander on metapods and catching pikachu (pretty rare) is rather time consuming.

It's just for fun. We can discuss tournament stuff, but mostly this should be for fun.
So don't get angry at eachother because you guys didn't pick the best movesets, or the best teams.

Yeah. People train hardcore teams of pokemon, and do ridiculous things because of hidden stats (EV's and IV's) and will breed pokemon for hours to get certain moves and the best stats.
Releasing and recatching pokemon to get the right hidden power.
And then they enter into a team where they do extreme link battles for badass prizes.
Official Game Related Post, or something like that Remember, I'll be doing section 1 around midnight, so start discussing which pokemon if any should I catch?
Pidgey, Rattat, neither, both?
What levels should I train to until I go on to Viridian City?

Because machamp and tauros are just too good at what they do. In the quote, he mentioned Charizard as a good sweeper for RBY, and RBY is completely different from any other pokemon game because of it's "special" stat.
Sandslash and Persian suffer the same fate as Rhydon and Hypno. They are good, but not good enough to top the others.
Neither nor pidgey and rattata. Pidgey just sucks, and raticate is a 1 trick pony. Go get a nidoran and spearow.
Both- I always found hyper fang useful. Also, we can take brock with shitty tackles and gusts if we pick charmander. Get a pikachu as well. I'd say just bulldoze through with little attention to level. We can level later, right?

Gotta catch'em all! It wouldn't be a pokemon journey without it.
As for levels, I have no idea. I just remember having the special attacks by the time i got to brock (ember, vine whip or absorb, whichever comes first, etc.)
in pokemon yellow i caught a pidgey and then that was the only pokemon i ever used and pretty soon he outleveled anything the game could throw at me (without dying much either), i don't see what's so great about analyzing this to death, the game is pretty easy...

I used to just bash Brock down with a Pidgey, the Geodude dies EZ to Gust and after that spam Sand Attack until Onix can't hit anything and just gogogo
its been ages since i played blue, back then i trained lots of pokemons to lvl100 including caterpie and metapod. caterpie owning the league with tackle solo ~~
btw, to have an easier time to beat brock with charmander, just catch caterpie and evolve it, metapod(lvl7) --> butterfly (lvl10) and then at lvl12 he learn confusion and brock will be piece of cake. Suggestion for Butterfly name: Tossgirl :D And then when you come that far to catch Abra! name him Dreamer! Nal_ra ftw!
I had so much fun naming my metapod "My Penis"; you go through the game once it evolves, and the name doesn't change. As you fight with it, you get messages like "My Penis is confused! it hurt itself in its confusion!" and "My Penis fainted!"
Enemy Jynx used "Lovely Kiss" on My Penis! My Penis fell asleep!
Then went on the PC. To my surprise StarCraft wasn't installed. No wonder sAviOr has been having a rough couple seasons. But there was a potion, which is just as good, I guess.
Who needs medics?
After walking around Pallet town, sAviOr swings by Oaks place. Meets GG.net. That guy is a dick.
Seriously, what's his problem?
sAviOr is interrupted during a nice stroll in the grass by Professor Oak. Apparently you need Pokemon. Whatever.
Thanks for the info Professor Obvious.
After choosing the ever controversial FBH (Short for firebathero, the sn of Lee Sung Eun, the terran of Samsung KHAN), that asshole GG.net challenges sAviOr to a fight. Dick.
Give peace a chance, man.
I'll scratch your eyes out.
I won by doing this over and over again. Exciting.
Victory is mine!
Suck it GG.net
After walking through the grass and killing a few Pidgeys and Rattatas, I entered a lone Pokemart, only to be given a quest. Deliver a Parcel to Professor Oak.
What is this, World of Warcraft?
I return to Pallet Town to give the parcel to Oak. Next time (Around 3 o clock PST, I will obtain pokeballs and go catch some Pokemanz.)
And you seriously can catch both Caterpie and Weedle in one version? I'm 99% sure I read something somewhere years back that said that they were uncatchable in their respective versions.
PM me names for Pidgey and Rattata, with the PM title being simply "Pidgey" or "Rattata". When I have about 5-6 of each, I'll open one randomly and begin the next section. Which will up until Viridian Forest.
Along the way I can catch a Spearow, or Nidoran.
The question is, should I catch Spearow, I don't think they're super common in the area. And I can catch one soon after Pewter Gym. Also, Female or Male Nidoran?
Also, if you're reading just the most recent posts, the biggest update is on Page 6.
spearow and nidoran are pretty common on the path to the elite four, that first bush where u fight gary soon after. I say get spearow instead of pidgey!
before viridian forest, where theres an old man thats strolling around, there is a tree that COULD be cut down, however u dont hav cut yet, but go to the tree anyway and press A. You get a free potion. Also go to a computer, go to your PC box, and withdraw a potion
what i don't get why it matters so much, like seriously, i beat the entirety of pokemon yellow using only a pidgey and his respective evolutions and nearly no other pokemon and it wasn't even difficult, the only MILDLY hard part was brock's gym
was pokemon yellow like nerfed to be easier or what
Poll: Pidgey or Spearow? (Vote): Just catch Pidgey (Vote): Just catch Spearow (Vote): Catch both
Poll: Nidoran, Male or Female (Vote): Male (Vote): Female
Also, I'll catch whatever pokemon in an area I like, but don't be sure I'll catcha specific Pokemon. So if you want me to catch anything specific, discuss it here or PM me. If it seems unanimous everyone wants a certain Pokemon, then I'll catch it.
When I have more than 6 Pokemon, you guys will pick my gym leader teams. I'll post a list of everything I have in boxes, with a picture of it's stats and moveset.
PM me your team, and if one occurs more than once I'll choose it.
If you don't like that method, PM me with any suggestions on how to do teams, or anything else.

It's not a question of difficulty but rather efficiency.
I mean yeah you can beat the entire thing with your starter and some HM bitches, but it's going to take longer than if you actually select a proper team.
Plus I've been playing 386 where assembling a decent team is important
This thread is really epic, massive props to DoctorHelvetica for this.
I love the way you're doing it as well, we all know you can level one Pokemon massively and own it up but if you roleplay it somewhat and make sure you level a wide range of pokemon it'll be a good laugh.
Edit: Somewhat unrelated... Has anyone played the hacked Pokemon Quartz and can they tell me what they think of it? I really liked Emerald386, but Quartz seems cool and entirely different.

Our hero sAviOr returns to Professor Oak, and get's a pokedex in return. Lucky.
I bet they have these in Korea...
Quickly our hero runs to Viridian City, and purchases some Pokeballs. Now he's ready to capture some Pokemon!
And this is exactly what he does. Capturing a:
Nidoran(f): Named Tossgirl. I looked forever for a male... Spearow: Named Fagballs Name in honor of Yahtzee Croshaw Caterpie(Now Butterfree): Named Penis For "String Shot", and "Harden" which it didn't learn... Rattata: Named IdrA Came from PM Pikachu: Z Meant to put by.flaSh, but I just accidentally hit z/enter. T_T
Along with the allmighty FBH, he had created a powerful team.
AND HE TRAINED! Slaying massive amounts of Level2-5 Pokemon, to obtain a great level of 10, on all pokemon.
To? Okay...
sAviOr might be a little immature...
Maybe he's compensating for something...
After hours of grueling training, (me pressing the A key for 30 minutes and walking back and forth), our hero, sAviOr, arrives in a mysterious new city.
[/img]
This place looks boring...
Regardless, our hero...
is ready, for the next adventure. Now that he has a team, can he dominate the world of Pokemon, like he did the world of BroodWar not too long ago?
Which Pokemon should I use to kill which Pokemon of his? Whoever kills Onix will get pretty big XP bonuses, and I probably won't use much until Misty's section. So discuss.
You need to train more if want to win IMO (could be wrong). I am not sure but I think NinoranF(Tossgirl) will learn double kick soon. Nope that is in Yellow and GSC you would be leveling to 43 for Double kick.
I just remember when I played through that at those levels I didn't use a special type then it would do a tiny bit of damage, and the only special attack you have that works is ember.
Butterfree should learn confusion soon (lv 12) it would be funny to see a bug take down Brock.
why dont you just get a mankey and own his ass with low kick?
also, before you get the badge, if you go to victory road (look for a path heading west) you can fight gary, find some more pokemon and get experience
also butterfree will learn confusion at lvl 12, but will take 4x dmg + STAB from any rock attacks by brock, actually, now that I think about it, his onyx mostly just uses bide lol

make penis learn confusion O_O but ya brock EZ also, i think right before the tunnel mountain thing you can buy a magikarp... you should totally do that for gyarados :D and a geodude (nal_rock)
I just finished playing pokemon red a few days ago and I started with charmander. For brock it helps to start with pidgy and sand attack 3-5 times then switch to a charmander and kill brock's pokemon with ember.
The real question is:
Do you want to be a man and catch Mew in Cerulean city or not?

Yes I want to be a man.
for those wondering about the mew glitch, here's a video
Thanks sunyveil, I was utterly clueless to what this Mew Glitch was. o.o
Sorry, Lycaeus, I should have clarified. I meant Mankey only appears next to Viridian City in Yellow Version, so he wouldn't be an option our hero, sAviOr, could use in defeating Brock. Sorry for the ambiguity. =o
Yeah level up a bit more. Sorry about the Caterpie- I seriously thought it would learn harden. As for taking down Brock, I'd use Nido(F), Char, Spear, and Rattata. When he uses Bide, just tail whip and growl as much as possible. Then smack him around with tackles and pecks. Or you can use double kick if Nido has it. I think things will get more interesting at around Mt. Moon.
I love this idea and I love the updates and this is so awesome I'll send some PMs later if/when I can think of any pokemon names

Just stick with Squirtle, and train only that Pokemon. You may capture other pokemons, but they will only serve as your HM users. passed the whole game like that. Makes your trip a whole lot easier seeing as how you don't have to battle countless times just to be able to defeat the gym leader.
