Since I'm home, more rambling. Maybe I should make a blog, but then no one would read this stuff (I know everyone's here to see who's online for dota).
Roshan. He does more damage than any other ancient, he's got most hp by far in the game (excluding the fountains). He drops two unique items and gives as much gold as a tower. He only respawns roughly every 15 minutes (might be exactly 15 minutes, but I never bothered to find out). That Roshan is significant is obvious. What annoys me is that some people underestimate the significance, while far more overestimate it. One scenario that's happened more than once: a team kills all of the opposing team in front of their base. Instead of pushing right away and ending the game, the two damage dealers pull out with full (or near-full, not that it matters... no one on the other team is alive) hp to go get Roshan. Several other cases that are equally unquestionably stupid will go unsaid, unless someone is really interested.
Towers are similar: some will underestimate, some will overestimate. I find this to be a bigger problem in Korean games. It's less common, but still a frequent event to see a guy running alone into 5 guys to try and get a tower deny or last hit and die without accomplishing anything else. It's just 200 gold, alright?

'shan is 10 minutes
and towers are ~400 + 200*4, which is pretty significant early game :s
|
Subtract 200 for the guy who died, and another 250-ish for the gold that the guy's gonna get from the kill. And another 200 for the last hits on creeps you would be getting if you weren't going on a suicide run into 1v5. Considering the failure rate and cost of failure, it just ain't worth it.
|
Roshan's actually worse in this regard, because more people are likely to run into a badly timed 5v5 (because the other team is getting Roshan!!11!!! we gotta stop them!!1111) and more than one idiot is gonna die. And even though you know its a bad timing to fight, you have to join in to improve the chances of a better fight outcome. Which often leads to everyone dying, them getting roshan, and pushing 1 or 2 towers before your team respawns.
|
so true how teammates have to join in the fight to mitigate the loss
but i've had so many team battles where people didn't join in because they didn't believe they could turn the tide, but they could have easily done so :\
someone needs to write a guide on what to do during major battles cos i see people just wandering around and shit, getting hit for no reason

I'm here to play. 2 hours at most; I gotta sleep. While I'm waiting for next game:
Equally a problem in Korean and US games: I'm definitely a maphacker. At least 10 guys have told me that they looked at the replays, and I'm a noob who should stop playing, since I can't play without cheating. Actually watch the fucking replay with fog of war on, from my perspective, and see the fucking wards planting before you claim to have watched the replay and have definitive proof of maphack. Yeah, that means don't fucking say anything until the game's over and you've had time to look at the replay. And do look at the replay, if you want to accuse someone of hacking. NIGGA PLEASE.

What's wrong with you today?
Bad picks have been pissing me off the most lately.

Ack, exact day should be Sunday 9am~ TL time
That would be saturday night for you, right? It's hard to get an exact time so it'd be good if you can have your people available for a long period of time that day.
I figured saturday night is best for you but if friday night works too, I guess that's a go too (bottleabuser isn't on my team but he can play for us on saturday but not sunday).

add me and lets game gogo

Maybe I should start a blog.
I didn't talk about crappy hero picks because it's harder to articulate, but here goes.
Ultimately, the goal is to push 4 layers of towers and destroy the opponent's Big Building. This means you need enough (physical) point damage to destroy towers, or enough cheap (to cast, in mana and cooltime) aoe damage spells so that your creeps can destroy the towers, or some way to kill a bunch of the enemy team so you can break towers without being hit by the other team's heroes.
Obviously, so many options that will meet these requirements. And yet so many that won't.
I've lost games with all friends vs teams of people I know are worse (I hesitate to use term "noobs" here, because I've been using it interchangeably with "asshole no-skilled idiot") because we decided to pick retarded heroes for a "concept" round. You can't really count on one guy getting so strong that he can take on everyone, because that's the same as assuming the other team doesn't know how to play dota. It will happen in noob games, but that doesn't make it something to depend on.
Now, bad hero picks generally are: Heroes without disables. Heroes that can't fight effectively under a certain level, or without certain items that you can't buy with initial money. Heroes that aren't effective except in very special circumstances, in which tehy r0x0rz, but are useless otherwise.
Some of these that come to mind are: Troll, Meepo, Bounty Hunter, Alchemist, Undying, Phantom Lancer, Stealth Assassin. What's unfortunate about these useless heroes is that some noobs have seen them farmed up and owning, which in their books makes these the best heroes in the game. They're not good, and they won't help with most strategies that work. Against decent lane opponents they'll have a pretty hard time, too.
Those are single bad heroes. There are others that are mostly useless, but it would take a lot more time and space to list them, and justify why they're bad, so I'll leave that for some other time.
Now, what kind of idiot sees 4 melee on his team and decides to pick another melee? I won't name names.
Same for seeing 2+ invi heroes and choosing another invi hero.
Or seeing a very gankish lineup on the other team, perhaps with bloodseeker or beastmaster, and deciding to go jungling... or jungling when you already have a jungler. Or choosing a hero that can't hold its own lane when you see that a teammate went jungling.
