Ramblings on dota:

Last hit is important. You get money that you wouldn't otherwise get, and you ensure that the creep wasn't denied (= less xp). Sure, it's not that big of a difference. Wrong! It is simply the only thing you can do, not to get ahead, but to keep from falling behind. "I'm too lazy" or "I'm lagging" or "I don't care" equate to "I don't really want to win." And if you're not playing to win, then fuck off. Obviously, trading HP for last hit on a creep is pretty stupid, unless you've got more regen than you're losing HP. I see noobs learning about how good last hit is, then dying after getting 10 last hits in a row because they ignored their lane opponent.

Last hit is irrelevant. Yeah, I know. I'm talking about hero kills. Just kill the fucker, as fast as you can, as surely and safely as you can. I don't care if one guy just took out 95% of the enemy's hp all alone, take out the other 5% and finish the job as fast as you can. And don't bitch when your teammate finishes a guy you were gonna beat. There are too many factors that could fuck you up the longer the guy's alive. The other team's on their way, the guy you're whacking might have cooltime almost done, whatever.

Which leads to... kill/death score! 0-20 doesn't necessarily mean you're bad, and 20-0 doesn't necessarily mean you're good. It's probable that you're doing some stupid shit if you're dying so much, but I find it particularly irritating when people say "my score iz better than urz lol noob" to justify their idiocy. Especially if the same guy has been performing very poorly in previous or following games, but justifies himself by saying "remember that game? I got more kills than you so stfu," which somehow seems to imply that one game he did is more important than anything else. Probably is to him, because it happens so rarely.

And... team play. Yes, it's possible to have teamplay with heroes on opposite sides of the map. Having everyone assemble at 20 minutes and run around ganking is a possible strategy, but it's not the only one, and it's probably not the best one, either. Insisting that everyone join you on ganking runs when the situation doesn't call for it is even worse, and invoking "teamplay" doesn't justify idiocy. No, neither is it good teamplay to run in 1v5, die, and complain that no one else came with you. The lack of "teamplay" is blamed almost as often as lag is, when noobs do something stupid.

Which leads me to the causes of death in dota. 90% is caused by lag, 9% by idiot teamplay (or idiot teammates), and 1% by spilled coke (numbers Pulled Out Of My Ass (TM)). Kills, on the other hand, are 100% 1337 5ki11z. NAW, FUCK YOU. If you can't admit it when you died because of a misjudgement you made, don't compound your mistake by blaming it on something else. Likewise, ganking someone doesn't automatically make the other guy a noob.

Right! US players talk way too fucking much. In-game, I mean. I talk a lot too, as you can see here. It would make some more sense, I guess, if the majority of the talking was actual communication, like missing calls or calls to rally, or even item, skill builds. But if you're going to argue with your teammate, do it before or after the game. Likewise if you want to talk to more than you want to kill your opponent.

Koreans talk too much, too, but not nearly as much garbage as US players. There still is the useless stuff, and it's different ("are you sure it's not cheating to plant observer wards with a flying courier? courier shield is imba!11" vs "fucking fuck noob fuck fuck fuck fuck"), but there's less of it.
