Ok there HAS to be a way to get rid of this fucking LOL-copied crap where when you mous eover something the outline of the unit lights up, green for friendly, red for enemy yellow for neutral etc. Does anyone know if it can be disabled?
|
Yeah it can, check the options for the cryptically titled "Selection Outline" and disable it
Anyway, gave HoN a shot, played a couple of games on a free account just to understand what this is all about.
Doesn't seem too bad, dunno what all the hate is coming from. So you start off with 15 heroes (kind of lame), anyone know how often this pool changes? If it changes weekly or bi-weekly, then that's fine. Hero prices are a little steep though. Most are 250 or 400 coins (some more, some less), which, at a very optimistic gain of 10 silver coins per game, means you need to play like 40 games per hero (or like 20 hours of gameplay at 30min/game). That's a little silly imho, but if the pool rotates enough so that you don't get bored (really, I think weekly would make it good), then I could see this working.
Couldn't figure out how long the game passes last (anyone know?) Also couldn't figure out how many tokens you can buy for the 350 silvers (anyone know?)
Either way, not too bad. GJ s2.

Either way, not too bad. GJ s2. you get more coins playing with friends now, also you get coins at regular intervals 50 kills 50 assists 10 wards 10 smackdowns, among things like getting bloodlust immoral, consecutive games. Getting coins isn't too hard play casual to farm kills and assists i can farm about 400+ coins just playing a bit regurally every day fitting in a couple games.
Couldn't figure out how long the game passes last (anyone know?) not sure what you mean there and i can't check token pricing due to having a legacy account. but i thought it was an allocated time deal with tokens.

I didn't really care about this game going f2p until I saw that I had to pay for the Monkey King.
Edit Oh, new champs are early access. Nvm

Just won a game and apparently everyone's mmr was reset to 1500...

Edit Oh, new champs are early access. Nvm yeah legacy accounts can get all heroes eventually but ionno how long early access thing lasts off that monkey king is early access but drunken master is not? Anyways as soon as my friends wake up we are gonna abuse new people by playing casual then picking all the carries out of the 15 selection pool :D herp, buying heros is such a dick move s2

Looks more like f2p accounts just stay 1500 forever and none of the stats ever get recorded
|
Like everyone's stats are still there if you look at peoples statistic pages. My mmr is 1695 and I won a game and it should've gone up to 1700, but instead everyone just was at 1500 and got +5 like if they were at a higher rating. I dont know if this is intentional at all or just another s2 fuckup.
EDIT: now my profile picture on my stats page is Wildsoul, that ugly mofo

I'm not really fussed about waiting though, as far as I'm concerned that option should be, if it isn't already, something that i can check so that I NEVER have to play with basic accounts.
If that's the way it works then, as emo as it sounds, I cba with hon anymore. The russian roulette that is matchmaking just isn't worth it without 5.
Edit: my wait was like 2 mins.

Well, I just added up all the shit I bought on my accounts. So I played about 260 games (jesus christ, I didn't need to know that), and bought the following (I don't remember if the prices were lower, some of these seem a little high, but I'm just going with how much they cost now) -basic taunt, 700 (going off memory, 99% sure it cost that much) -unlock account icon, 350 -icon, 100 -flag, 275 -diamond color, 980
that's 2405 coins. I also have 2309 coins, but I think 2k of those are free, so 2714 coins in total. I don't think I bought any alt avvies (maybe I did, how to check?), but yeah that works out to about 10/game. I think my estimate was good. Add up yours and see if it's significantly different? Remember if you lose you only get 2 coins instead of 6 so like.. yeah. I have a lot of losses as well.
With the friend bonus, let's say on average 12coins/game. Can't imagine it being much higher -.^
As for tokens etc, from what I understand, the game passes are pick-anything-you-want-for-X-time. The tokens let you pick a certain thing once. So like, if you have 5 tokens (you get 5 when you become verified), you can pick 5 heroes you don't own, so 5 games.
I wonder if anyone knows how long game passes last, and how many tokens you can buy for the 350 silvers.

Uninstalling HoN, playing DotA til DotA 2.
"With goblin coin currency, which can be earned or bought, players can purchase in-game brag-worthy cosmetic upgrades. The micro-transaction based store, controlled by Merrick the goblin shopkeeper, lets players customize their experience without affecting game play or allowing the purchases to change the level of competition"
-> early access + f2p players will never be able to be competitive without paying ridiculous amounts (apparently costs 29500 silver coins to unlock every hero?).
gg s2, I bought HoN in early beta and now they've dug their own grave.

I don't understand why you can't just have this F2P model as well as the $30 thing.
There are only 2 reasons to not allow legacy accounts to be purchased anymore:
1. Don't want to piss off people who already bought the full game, so they make this "exclusivity" garbage.
2. They think they can make more money from not allowing people to buy $30 accounts. i.e. they believe that if they allowed a F2P model with the ability to buy everything for $30 would result in too many buying the $30 account and too few spending more than $30 for microtransactions on a F2P account.
I think #2 is a bad projection and it seems reasonable to say that's what they think. The only people who are going to be playing on basic accounts are going to be incredibly bad and incredibly shitty and incredibly useless in terms of/comparison to the competitive community and even 1650+ players. If someone does love this game but is unable to actually buy it all, they're never ever going to spend enough time or money to get EVERYTHING that you could get on a Legacy account. Basically this model is turning away EVERY new potential customer who would be a long-term/consistent player. Rather than having a slower influx of more invested and interested players, there will now be a gigantic, non-stop influx of worthless players who will add nothing to the USERBASE or COMMUNITY while the micro-transactions will line S2's pockets. There's nothing wrong with that, S2 is a company, whatever they want to make money, but I REALLY don't understand why we can't have purchasable legacy accounts in conjunction with the F2P model.

for 30 it just be too cheap they looked at LoL model and noticed how much they could rake in. Anyways the 1-5 dollar purchace model is a proven model for making money apparently people are weak when it comes to waiting or buying hats.

It's disgusting because they WILL make more money, because even if every free user spends an average of $5 if they bring in more than 6x the number of UNIQUE $30 buyers then they'll still make more money (500,000 accounts, probably 300,000 unique users I'd guess).
But it ruins the game. There will be few to no more long-term NEW HON players coming into the community.
Also has S2 prepared their server providers/whatever for the influx of new players? HON has gone down on the dot around 2 AM my time every single night for about a month, I wonder what will happen now. At least 2-3 times a day login servers go down for 5-10 minutes at a time. Right now the forums say "database error" until reloaded a few times.

edit: found a pricelist. So 13550 gold or 29410 silver to unlock every hero. That's 6 purchases of $40 USD coins (leaving you with 940 gold coins), $240 USD OR, at 12coins/game, 30min/game, 1225hours of gameplay.
Yeah I think I am selling my legacy accounts for $100 apiece, pretty sure there will be buyers -.^ Maybe even more than $100, they do have stuff on them after all. $190 maybe -.^

Yeah just like there hasnt been any long-term LoL players RIGHT ? /sarcasm
Model works for LoL, please tell me how it wont work for HoN
Yet to see any convincing argument on how the new move is ''SUCH A BAD THING'', all I hear is the ''i wont get to play the new hero the day it gets out'' and ''greedy s2 they want money''

It's not the same model my friend
I didn't say it was a bad thing
In fact if you read my posts I said it was a good thing if it brought more players, but unfortunate that it won't affect me.
Also, out of curiosity, how many of the top LoL players have actually bought everything they have? I honestly don't know and this is a real question. Doesn't Riot give all the top players free shit?
In fact if you didn't just do the standard angry post where you get angry over generic shit that hasn't really been said but that you disagree with, and actually addressed individual people that you disagreed with then you might be able to get some real discussion going.
If this game didn't have 500,000 "legacy" accounts prior to the F2P model then it would be the same as LoLs. It does. It's not the same as LoL.
