Does anyone know of a good mod to get rid of level scaling in oblivion?

I was going to start playing it, but I already HATE the idea of level scaling, and several people told me that the level scaling screwed up the game for them.

so i guess my TWO questions are

1) would you recommend that i play through the game just dealing w/ the level scaling first?

2) what's a good level scaling mod (or other mod + description)

yeah it sucks. optimal strategy is to never sleep and do the hardest quests first (the main quest).

I used OOO for a while but I don't know how it works these days. Try bethsoft forums?

And yeah, don't play with scaling because it leads to A) gear having no impact at all on the game B) Every figth being exactly the same.

I don't know if there is a patch that also removes scaling of quest rewards and make the quests a fixed difficulty but if you find one let me know because that's what really ruined the game for me. No reason to do quests if you only get stuff that you could find in any random dungeon and which will become obsolete in 2-3 levels.

If I remember correctly, it only scales up to a certain level - like 25 or something (but don't quote me on that), so you could just level a few levels past that point.

I played quite a bit of the Xbox 360, and other than a game killing bug (for me - couldn't complete the Thieves' Guild quests

) I had no problem progressing in the game.

Can you not scale the difficulty level toward easy in case you have to get past a difficult encounter? Or does that just feel so dirty? :o I played the game on Xbox360 and did most of my levelling "artificially" by choosing major skills that I could limit the use of and so whenever I did level up, I could add +5 (the max amount) to my stats. Creating a race/class combo with high endurance and then maxing out endurance first will yield high health points relative to your enemies. I also did quite a bit of artificial levelling of minor skills so that makes me stronger relative to my enemies as well. Anyway, once I maxed out all of my stats, I just stopped sleeping.

I wouldn't suggest not ever sleeping and staying at level 1. I haven't tried it, but I think an unwanted consequence of your enemies staying at level 1 is that their abilities are limited. Like fighting zerglings, zealots and marines the entire game. And also there are quests with level requirements, so you simply won't be able to do some things in the game.

So basically
1) Play naturally and if the game is being gay, shamelessly adjust the difficulty level
2) Meticulously plan out and perform the numerous ways to become more powerful outside of gaining levels
3) Find some kinda mods which I know nothing about

how the FUCK do you kill wil-o-whisps? I tried silver, steel and iron.. nothing works. Also magic didnt do anything. HOW?

Well, without a mod you should take some skills you never use as your main skills. The skills you normally use will level a little lower but in exchange you can freely decide which attributes to push and most importantly, you don't level up if you don't want to. So you get better while the monsters stay at low level. Then again, if you never level, it get's too easy. And leveling will be boring.
It really fucks the game up imo, but I haven't tried any big mods.

if i remember correctly you just need a weapon that does magical damage
also am i the only one who thinks, that in a game this big, level scaling is actually a good thing?

Just play the game. The scaling isn't that big of a deal (it certainly doesn't prevent one from enjoying the game), and if things end up being too easy or difficult, just move the difficulty slider to compensate accordingly.

Definitely use BTmod, though; the inventory UI, designed for the 360, doesn't translate well to the mouse-centric PC.

I don't like scaling because I'm addicted to the idea of facing low level monsters in low level zones and high level monsters in high level zones.

I do agree that Morrowind was a lot better.

i downloaded a bunch of mods and leveling patches when i played oblivion... the scaling really annoyed the hell out of me

don't remember all the ones i've used though, although i know i used OOO

Def get a mod. Playing through the game without one is soo stupid. Weak enemies should be weak and strong enemies should be strong. If beating a strong enemy requires getting stronger yourself, then thats what you should do. Thats the point of an RPG game.

No hes not. I dont really mind it. It is kinda silly going back to older missions and getting garbage rewards for killing a cave of Ogres hehe. I just enjoy the game too much to be annoyed by scaling I guess. Amazingly deep and fun game.
