Mr. Spartak, can you just speak straight for once rather than weaseling about — do you believe someone having a bad experience with a company marks them as biased and invalidates their opinions on that company? I volunteered some experience on a separate aspect of modding and working for and with people who work at Frost Giant. Its not related to esports so I don't see how it would be relevant. So to me you seem interested to both flip it and generalize it into a kind of being 'marked for dishonesty'.

Even though you aren't an official member of Frost Giant, I would think a company that was born from an HR crisis of people having terrible experiences inside of Blizzard then being treated like shit when they talked about them would probably be something you don't want to reflect in the greater community, but its something you are really eager to do, and here in public you have tried to get other people to get on board with it on multiple occasions — pretty weird. I'm sure it has something to do with what goes on internally in the company and you are radiating it outwards from your connections but I have to say its a bit ominous.

I mean we don't need any evidence to know that you are biased. Even without that comment, it would have been obvious that you are on some personal vendetta and not just some random gamer who is not fond of the game. That comment just makes it so that we don't have to guess why you are acting this way.

Again there's no 'we' you are alone, that's the only thing that is self evident. Everything else requires evidence. I'm glad you can put your official stamp out there that Frost Giant Studios in the future will follow a line of trying to degrade and vilify anyone who disagrees with them or who experiences damage from any of their employees. Another thing they mimicked from the ol' office!

As much as I enjoy MegaBuster's prose and turns of phrase, sadly, they appear to be a crazy person. Their contributions do not outweigh the negatives (making people wonder "what the fuck is this person saying?"), and thus must be assessed with a ban.

2005 were better times for RTS though.

Looking forward to the release of the game and how many players will actually pick it up.
I expect Stormgate to do better than Battle Aces, especially in player retention.

Question for both games will be if they can attract enough players and viewers to creare a sustainable tournament economy.

In the end every tournament organizer needs to show good numbers to get sponsors.

The funny thing is, you don't need that many players or even viewers to make esports sustainable. If they do war chest esports will pay for itself even if player count is only a couple thousand. Player count will determine the scale of these esports, but there will still be esports. It's part of their games model.

If they put that money into tournament production and prize pools, sure.
Usually devs don't share that revenue with tournament organizers though, so they need to get the money from sponsors and then it's all coming down to eyes on the event.

but what was the last + Show Spoiler +
genuinely original new RTS that came out? Stormgate feels like a very safe hybrid of other games. The thing that really excites me about playing a new RTS is that the new race or faction feels completely novel and has a awesome lore behind it. I watched the new faction reveal here, and it looked like something I could make in the Galaxy Editor in a few months.

You could probably put it in the same box as LoL was to Dota, or Valorant to CSGO.
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

yup. i dont think we need crazy innovation. sure sc2 added a lot, but it wasnt a wildy new take on rts when u compare it to sc1. not every rts needs to be completely novel for it to succeed. Hell, a lot of people like something that feels familiar.

There is some cool ants RTS on steam which has a really cool and funny single player "campaign" and some out of the box gameplay. Like you said, it's way easier doing something like that in a singeplayer game.

Re: the TorcH discussion, its important that TorcH wasn't get let go from Frost Giant - he took a dream job managing esports for The Pokemon Company. Matt 'Heyoka' Weber is now managing esports stuff as part of his portfolio for Frost Giant (he used to run ESL SC2 esports).

Celestial mechanics are pretty out-there. They're certainly experimenting with some interesting stuff, but I'm not sure how much will end up in the game.

SC2 early builds had things like spawning larvae anywhere on creep, Starports that could make units while flying, Thors built by scvs, and dark pylons. Stormgate actually feels kinda tame in comparison

From what I've seen posted by monk in the discord, lots of units and abilities will be radically different from last test, especially from celestials as it was admittedly rushed to a playable state for the elephant build. Veterancy for vanguard was in its initial state and did not receive internal testing before being implemented. The game will hopefully play a lot better in early access. Not to mention CAMPAIGN MISSIONS! LFG

I'm predicting concurrent players to reach over 5k concurrent immediately on launch. Which is really good when you consider AOE4, a more established name has 7k concurrents right now. The future is bright for RTS. Once features like map editor and arcade games hit the market that number will balloon. The vast majority of players are in fact casual not multiplayer ranked tryhards.
