You really don't miss out on anything. Dailys are meh anyway and if you don't use your Resin... so what? I have the chars I want pretty much maxed anyway. The only thing I'm doing is farming leylines because maybe I might need some money someday...

The event itself is better than the 1.3 one but not by a large margin.

New leaks say no Chasm in 1.5 ... FML
One new weekly boss
One new atifact domain (2 new artifacts)

I was wondering when you guys will start talking about leaks what with the whole incident of 1.4 beta being leaked since due to two competing dataminer groups and the 1.5 devclient being accidently released 5 days ago, the beta server being shut down, and one group of leakers now hiding, but somehow you guys missed the whole thing.

Anyways, my situation is 575 purple exp books and 1.5 million mora. I guess I just don't upgrade my characters as much. For instance I use a lvl 50 Chongyun with four +0 Noblesse set artifact for abyss. I can see myself running out of mora in the next month or so though. I quite like the events but, I don't really understand the point of all these events. It's like they want the game to be a bunch of daily and weekly minigames. Is this normal in gatcha games?

Gacha games slowly drip feed their main story over a period of years and stuff the filler time with events and other things so yea pretty standard gacha.

What do you mean, I wrote a summary of what happened. One of the leakers wrote a post on their readme at github which has since been deleted. I'm not going to show you the link to the 1.5 devclient (it's on 4chan of all places) and all the twitter accounts of the dataminers all say that they no longer exist. If you want to know what they released before they went silent your link has some of it and I'll write what I can remember in spoilers but I can't show any of it as I said before, the leakers are hiding now.
+ Show Spoiler +
Animations of two new characters for 1.5. Both for idle and attack and skill animations. 5* cryo claymore called Eula and a 4* pyro catalyst called Yanfei. Yanfei is a lawyer and yes the 5* really is called Eula. Eula looks like a blue female traveller head stuck on Ganyu body with a Kaeya cloak. Attack animations are fast and she throws the claymore downwards as last attack. Yanfie is a redhead with a funny hat. Loads of furniture for housing system leaked. As well as backgrounds for teapot domain, not sure if related. Also new areas that is not Chasm leaked. Looks like large islands, which could be teapot related. Zhongli and Qiqi both have story quests and dungeons which is the real reason why Zhongli is the rumoured rerun in your link. Several new enemies. Including one that looks like another geovishap prime. New domain containing the abyss herald. New phys damage artifact. Can't remember what it does but it gives another +25% phys damage. Also loads of weapons but I can't remember what they looked like or what they do.

Thanks. But is it normal that the minigames have nothing to do with the base gameplay?

Well most gacha are rather limited in what they can do as they are true phone games. Genshin has a lot more flexibility since its a full 3D game.

Genshin's content schedule seems a little out of whack at the moment. Original plans were not to have 1.4 be... this, after all, and Chasm seems to have gotten pushed yet again. A little worrying.

They are getting away with it, so why shouldn't they. Every new char brings about 15 miollion dollars. Crazy really. That's more than most GAMES earn and they do it with a single char...
Had a link earlier but can't find it anymore -.-

Other gacha games rarely deviate from core gameplay beyond maybe having a special gimmick. It's half technical limitations, half waste of time/effort.

New stuff is obviously going to take more time to implement in Genshin because this is an actual 3D game instead of some random mobage. That said, it's become increasingly clear that mihoyo has bitten off more than they can chew with their release schedule. Even ignoring future stuff, their existing content suggests that they never planned for delays like this. The adventurer's handbook hasn't been updated with new quests since 1.0, and I imagine most dedicated players finished it months ago. The reputation system came out in 1.1 and was time-gated in such a way that it would last 1-2 patches. We're now at 1.4, again with most people having maxed out both Liyue and Mondstadt. Dragonspine's tree was structured to last ~2 weeks.

For gacha games, anything outside of new story content or events is considered dead time. And unfortunately, with how little there is to do in Genshin events, that's pretty much where we're at right now.

It's still weird to me how unwilling they are to add "lower effort" content. All interactions with named characters have to occur in scripted cutscenes and be voiced, which seriously limits the time we actually get to see them. It wouldn't kill them to have more text based stuff. Well, it definitely doesn't help that their writing has been mediocre at best, and the characters are already flanderized to hell.

Yeah, I understand the effort with new areas but it shouldn't take that much effort to create combat events and challenges and such on a much more frequent basis. There should be more commissions, random map events, and so on. That we still only have 4 abyss levels and they don't even rotate every month is sort of ???

That's more of the lower effort stuff they seem unwilling to add. Their content strategy hasn't made much sense to me thus far.

Or do something with AR, quite a few people hit 55 already and afterwards the whole system is pointless.

As of now they are keeping people soft locked until some point in the future and then what? Let us convert excess AR xp into resin or some shit.

AR has always been kind of pointless. As a system to gradually progress the world difficulty it barely makes sense as it is mainly gained by doing the daily commissions which doesn't really make your characters any stronger. It's basically a cumulative login bonus that slows down as you progress. It does provide a sense of progression as each level provides a reward, but any other system could had done that. It's not something I particularly think about. We can stay at AR 55 forever for all I care.

The windblume events are all well and fun in a kind of playing mario party alone kind of way, but I can't help but to think why these events even exist. Like they could easily had been all kinds of character interactions like the current hangout events. They created 11 minigames and 4 character hangount events. Surely it takes more development time thinking and coding all these minigame events than the character quests they have been doing since the start? Sure, not all coding is the same but surely it is more difficult to code a new minigame, not to mention multiples of them? Why are they spending so much effort on these minigames for so little gain? Does Mihoyo have a side business of making minigames?

What I find even stranger is when they just treat these events as a time limited happenstance. They create them then throw it all away. Whatever happened to Mona walking about doing astrology? It was nice looking at the model in the world while it lasted. Totally unvoiced too. It does feel like they didn't have a plan beyond 1.3.

That said they have added some subtle stuff in 1.4. A few sound effects been added. Ganyu for some reason have a timed audio indicator for when fully charged. Even though Ganyu already has a good enough visual indicator already and Amber and Fischl who are the ones who actually need that audio indicator don't have one. And the audio indicator isn't even properly synced as it is possible to fire a fully charged shot without the audio indicator by a split millisecond. Elemental orbs when absorbed give different sounds according to element type. I was wondering what all those splashing sounds I was hearing was till I worked it out.

Foxes now drop meat as soon as they die instead of dropping it after their death animation. Only that sometimes rather hilariously it goes flying out of their bodies by a meter for some reason.

I'm not gonna speculate too much on their development manpower or the intelligence of how they've split work/priorities (and it can take a few months for any changes in such to really manifest), but there're a few inherent design flaws in Genshin that they've not really addressed.

  1. Target audience and difficulty: in large part because of Chinese players and their overall hefty mobile playerbase, it's very obvious they're apprehensive of introducing 'difficult' content. While I understand being apprehensive, the net result is that there's a sort of counterintuitiveness where the end game is grinding for incremental increases in power, yet there's no real endgame content (other than one abyss level) where you really need that endgame power. As mentioned above, if they just kept adding more challenge-level stuff and kept adding difficult content that demands wonky elemental setups, they'd get a lot more mileage out of a lot of people and keep folks motivated to keep playing and min/maxing. As is, you've got one piece of hard-difficulty content that you can out-gear, and it doesn't change up frequently enough to keep folks interested for more than one month. That then leads to disinterest in end-game grind and thus just puts more focus on their sillier event content. Not great.
  2. Progression and rewards: they're stuck themselves in this weird rut where the price of raising a character is very high, but once you raise a character there's actually not much more to do. The odd result is that you end up with problems such as folks losing interest because they've already raised most of their characters with the exception of artifacts (which then siphons into problem #1), and they also can't simply feed you more materials via events and the likes because they accelerate the only progression remaining in the game. IMO their fear of giving people primogems (which I find super odd) for event/challenge activities simply further reduces their ability to have activities for players, which is then extremely counterintuitive.
  3. Frequency of content: there's a lot of low-effort content they could do but I'm pretty convinced that due to both situations above they just don't want to implement it. Imagine if weekly reputation quests gave 50 primogems? Yeah it's 150 gems per week, but you'd certainly incentivize people to keep doing it (while admittedly complaining about redundancy). Imagine if you had more ambush encounters and they gave 3 purple EXP books? You'd have people more willing to just wander around and try to pick them up. What if you had more Abyss levels that (gasp) give a whole 150 primogems every month? But no they don't want to give away that much money or something. It's silly.

Someone mentioned other gacha games - it depends. I play (a Chinese) one that sells and prides itself on super hard content. Character progression is actually more diabolical than Genshin, but there's much less RNG end-game grind and it's more about git gud. They don't have a 3d open world so obviously things are easier for them, but every 1.5 months they have a big 1.5-month event where they have the usual grind shit with good rewards (generally slightly less per-stamina efficiency than persistent dailies but with added bonuses such as guaranteed artifacts and such), but also always a super hard difficulty set of towers (think Abyss) that you can basically play for hours and hours. It's not like they add any new enemies - they just recycle bosses and mobs - but they let you increase the difficulty by adding more environmental effects/increasing enemy damage and defense/etc. and give you rewards for hitting certain total-enemy-buff thresholds. That's cool shit that takes almost no dev effort! And they give you a lot of free rolls for doing high-difficulty content.

Amusingly, this game gets raked over the coals in reviews by a lot of players because it's too hard. Go figure, eh?

Got me a Venti yesterday yeah :D
So all I need to do now is max him, get all stars in Abyss (my long standing personal goal for Genshin) and then I can stop Genshin and play fulltime Valheim (that's jharder difficulty right here) until something really interesting comes around in Genshin

If the Hypostasis event was any indication, people hated an event where there could be a challenge even though the most important rewards were given upfront for practically entering the Hypostasis domain. I know it's my first gacha game and all, but I really don't understand why most of the events are minigames. Even making a domain and pasting Qingxu Pool or Guyun Stone Forest and placing barrier round the edges with some different enemies would be nice, as a lazy way of making an area to explore again would be nice. It is practically effortless compared to making a minigame.

Speaking of minigames, that rhythm game is horrible to play. It's like the tower defence game, if I wanted to play that kind of game, I would simply play that kind of game. Not to mention I swear the rhythm you are supposed to press isn't co-ordinated with the music. The balloon burst and gliding challenge is fine though. It actually uses some gameplay elements.

The great bubble crash speeder race is horrendous for me. I can't seem to get past it without hitting the last set of bubbles right before the end. In the end I have to abuse the sprint to dodge through the bubbles to get the last challenge award or hope luck is with me. I doubt that is how you are meant to do it.

At this point I am thinking that the CEO of Mihoyo is making these minigames and no-one can tell him to stop. He sits in his office coding away these minigames with a do not disturb sign. He never wanted to make an engaging explorable open world game with gliding, swimming, climbing mechanics with some of the most appealing character designs ever seen. He grew up wanting to make these crappy minigames and Genshin Impact was just a means to that end.

Regarding the rhythm game: the first song is okay, the second song is godawful (it's easier to do it on mute and just pay attention to the visuals), and the third song is actually quite good.
