I really just need a controller, it's too easy to do mixups on the keyboard, even though if I know what should I be doing...or well, I could play a character like Ken. (for some reason, I don't mix up shoryuuken and hadouken, or not as much as I thought I would) But Makoto is so stylish with that grab -> hayate combo <3

Edit: Did that like twice today (didn't play much) and I felt like a pro!

Hey, I really need some 3s right now. I'm willing to try MAME32k with Kaillera . I had some trouble getting 3s to work with MAME, but this thread helped me figure out what I needed to do to:

Basically you need the following clone of 3s:
JAPAN, 990512, NO CD
which comes in sfiii3n.zip . You can get it from here:

(note: this is merely a CLONE of 3s, which means you still need the actual ROM, sfiii3.zip, to play it)

Then in MAME32, make sure you select this particular clone of 3s to play. I haven't tried MAME32k which has Kaillera as well, but I found you can download it here:

edit: wtf, this thing crashes whenever it tries to audit one of the 3s roms -_- I'll try to find v0.117 I guess...

Unfortunately, I have to play with my keyboard. But it's the only way I can press 2 buttons at once or accurately move straight up/down/left/right. I'm also more accurate at doing moves with it. I think it's going to take some getting used to compared to the arcade .

I set up the controls like this, similar to the arcade where my index finger is on lp and my ring finger is on hp (although with the left hand rather than the right).
T / Y / U - hp / mp / lp
G / H / J - hk / mk / lk
I / K - hp+mp / hk+mk (for easier EX moves)

ARRRRGH!!

Okay so, I found version 0.117 of mame 32 plus plus with kaillera. Unlike version 0.118 and 0.118u1, version 0.117 actually audits 3s without crashing! -_-

BUT, whenever I try to run the game it just exits the game after it finishes loading. -_-;; Any help?

Edit: OHHHH omg stupid... the 0.117 download I found had this other guy's config saved with it, which apparently wasn't working on my machine. So I chose Properties and clicked Restore Default Settings, and now it FINALLY works =P.

Edit 2: ARRRRGH!!! 3s runs fine in MAME32 (without Kaillera support), but runs laggy in the plus plus version with Kaillera support

Edit 3: Ugh, 3s is still running at ~20 fps in MAME32++ v0.117. It's kinda funny, though: the game moves so slow I can almost parry the computer's JABS on reaction . But there's no way this is gonna work for netplay =/. I wonder if this might have something to do with the settings files from the other guy =P.

Edit 4: Okay EVERY game is running laggy in that emu. It's as if I have slow-motion enabled or something, somehow -.- .

What do the pros use?

Where is a place to get one they don't seem to sell them at electronic stores.

The last one is the best (because it has 6 buttons for thumb) Got this from a friend I think he payed 15-20$ for it.

WOOHOO! Okay so, 0.117 is still super-laggy (probably because it was built with Visual C++ rather than GCC, that's my best guess), but now magically 0.118u1 (with kaillera) can audit and run 3s!

Okay so, you download that version of MAME+Kaillera here: http://ddememame.hp.infoseek.co.jp/
(scroll to the bottom and download "Mame32 Plus Plus 0.118u1 GCCコンパイル(2007.08.11)")

And if it doesn't run 3s or crashes, try resetting your default game options and also the specific game options for 3s.

Once again, you'll want the JAPAN 990512 NO CD version, included in this zip pack:

Alright now, anyone want to try playing a game?

Edit: I have both 0.118 and 0.118u1 with Kaillera, so as long as you have the same version as me, we should be good to go .

The particular pic I posted is the "Real Arcade Pro II" by hori.

I do recall both US and Japanese players using the Real Arcade Pro I, during one of the past Evo tournaments (as well as some of those texas lans).

I'm not sure how you can buy one... I ordered it online to a friend's address in japan and had him bring it to me when I was in japan --;;.

I think the japanese arcade sticks are probably much easier to use over the american ones. Probably why I always found joystick to be difficult.

Japanese = Short small lollipop looking stick
American = Long baseball bat looking.

It's not just the shape, but the parts inside the stick are different. I have a Japanese stick using Seimitsu. Other Japanese stick might be Sanwa. My Seimitsu is square base and might be difficult for some people to do circular motion, especially 720s. There are also wide variety of the long bat stick as well with varying quality.

If you have huge difficulties doing moves on the arcade, paying 90$ for the Hori Real Arcade Pro won't help. When the japanese came to USA, they still rape on long bat sticks.

I grew up playing on sticks on every system I own since that's what I prefer. I got a joystick(s) for every system. Also I notice there were certain stuff I could better on the pad compared to the sticks.

The problem is that often it's pointless to practice on a pad, because you can't show up to the arcade and just use the stick like it's a pad. I played Guilty Gear XX on PS2 and was alright, then I tried to play it in the arcade and it took me like 20 minutes just to get a quarter circle movement correct 1/2 times.

There is no problem now because the arcade scene is pretty much dead. Most people are limited to playing at home online or when friends come over.

The biggest arcade scene in USA called Evolution moved away from being arcade only to consoles fighters including arcade ports.
