edit spelling... handhelds never had issues with 3rd party support. on the other hand i can't think of the last 3rd party game i played on my wii or gamecube.
even for the 3ds the last 3rd party game i played was ace attorney. people always buy nintendo hardware for the 1st party titles.

Well I wish them the best of luck and it will come down to the games offered. I'm not spending $200 or $300 or more on a console that only has 3 games I'd like to try.

This seems really cool but now I'm sad I bought a new 3ds XL 3 months ago ;-)
I am now in doubt if I should add games to my 3ds library or see if this one will completely replace it. I was so happy with the Mario Maker on the 3ds

I really hope this isn't a replacement for the 3ds. Why would I want a handheld with a worse form factor than the 3ds and missing a proper d-pad?

I wouldn't be sad about purchasing a 3DS at all, its library is still top tier

Part of me is sad that I bought a new 3ds XL a year ago. Then again, I traded in my old 3DS so I didn't pay full price for it. So far, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is the only 3ds XL exclusive I've played. Everything else could be played on the regular 3DS.
I have plenty of 3rd party titles on my 3DS, mostly from Atlus. Square has the Bravely series on the 3ds.

Skryim on the fucking go, this shit is so damn hype

I simply don't think that this "transportable" concept is a good one and this video really focused a lot on that. But as i said, the games are the important part, if the console has enough power maybe third party support will be good.
Transportable is huge. Its the biggest thing to focus on. They are shifting the unit away from being a true XB1/PS4/PC competitor and more of a compliment. consider that in Japan the Vita and 3DS are huge the portability of the Switch is great for that market. And as I said, as soon as you position yourself to be a portable/home hybrid and truly differentiate yourself from the console/PC market you are hitting a broader market. Its not about choosing between the switch a PC or sony/microsoft. Its about having a switch and then one of the other consoles for their games. Nintendo knows that its first party content is probably its biggest driver of sales so in all honesty I don't think they are truly concerned about third party support. They'll play it up for the NA/EU market to steal some marketshare from Sony/Microsoft, but I don't think that's their main concern. Its about having a console which does what the others dont with a bonus of having some third party support. Absolutely agree, I think it's truly brilliant from a market and design stand point, and I am truly a fan.

Update 2: While Bethesda's much beloved Skyrim was clearly shown during Nintendo's Switch reveal video, the publisher told us today that it's not officially confirming the game just yet. "We're happy to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Nintendo on the video. While we are not confirming any specific titles at this time, we are pleased to announce our partnership with Nintendo and support of the Switch. We look forward to revealing specific games and details in the future," a spokesperson said. Skyrim Remastered is set to launch on October 28 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC; perhaps the Switch will receive a version of the Remastered game at launch?
Might want to curb the Skyrim Switch hype if this article is correct.

I'm excited for this. For most AAA games, I'd rather play it on my PC as I highly doubt the Switch will hit good frame rates, but I'm excited to play some of the DS franchises on the big screen like Gen 8 Pokemon, Layton, Etrian Odyssey, Phoenix Wright etc...

one point about this I hadn't considered was 3ds backwards compatibility. Playing Moon and Conquest on the Switch would be really hype

The Nintendo Switch home gaming system will "absolutely" support amiibo for compatible Nintendo Switch games, Nintendo has confirmed to IGN.
"If a Nintendo Switch game supports amiibo then the Nintendo Switch home gaming system will as well," a Nintendo representative told IGN.
Nintendo also clarified a couple more features of its newly unveiled Nintendo Switch console, including the function of the Nintendo Switch Dock seen in its announcement trailer, which you can watch below.
"The Nintendo Switch Dock has been created so that it is extremely easy to seamlessly switch from playing games on a TV to transition into a portable mode," a Nintendo representative told IGN.
Nintendo continued: "The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."
According to Nintendo, the Joy-Con controllers — named Joy-Con L and Joy-Con R — will be included alongside the Nintendo Switch system.
When asked if the Nintendo Switch will have touchscreen support, Nintendo declined to comment.
"We will make additional announcements about the Nintendo Switch hardware later, before the launch of the product," Nintendo told IGN.

By the way, the NS is supposedly REGION FREE !!

The NX(I'm calling it that) won't be backward compatible, I can't see it happening as someone has already noted the connections don't match what the 3DS games have on their cartridges.
edit: Phrase.

Interesting design, are the specs any better than Wii-U?
