If it uses Tegra X2 is probably around XB1, otherwise is much more powerful than the WiiU but not quite Ps4/XB1
Im pretty sure its using Tegra but a new version, NOT SURE its Tegra X2, but considering X1 will be 2 years once switch releases, its not far feteched to think that Nvidia is preparing X2 (or something) for the NS... which leads to, If X1 is almost 2 years old, and Nvidia havent release anything on the X2, maybe they are going full manufacturing to allocate the NS demand (Apple is doing the same with their new MacBooks which are using Polaris AMD, one of the reasons there arent Polaris Laptop, the whole "waffle" of chips is going to Apple)
Specially if you consider that X2 will probably be much more power efficient because it uses Pascal GPU in their custom SoC with Denver 2 CPU, and in handhelds you are pretty much looking for power efficiency, going for Pascal and downclock makes sense.
Im pretty sure tho it will have a power efficient module/mode when on-the-go and a power-hungry one when connected.

Renamed the thread to Nintendo Switch Thread -- hope thats ok with all of you :D

Transportable is huge. Its the biggest thing to focus on. They are shifting the unit away from being a true XB1/PS4/PC competitor and more of a compliment.
consider that in Japan the Vita and 3DS are huge the portability of the Switch is great for that market. And as I said, as soon as you position yourself to be a portable/home hybrid and truly differentiate yourself from the console/PC market you are hitting a broader market. Its not about choosing between the switch a PC or sony/microsoft.
Its about having a switch and then one of the other consoles for their games. Nintendo knows that its first party content is probably its biggest driver of sales so in all honesty I don't think they are truly concerned about third party support. They'll play it up for the NA/EU market to steal some marketshare from Sony/Microsoft, but I don't think that's their main concern.
Its about having a console which does what the others dont with a bonus of having some third party support.

I'm probably one of like five people who actually prefer the pro controller layout ... hope there will be some level of compatibility between the consoles!

This specific orientation of the 2 sticks, dpad and buttons allows them to execute their dual mini controllers scenario. That's why it's not the same as the Wii U layout I would guess. Myself I don't really care. I'm used to playing with both layouts.

Oh well. Maybe it'll be really good despite Nintendos crazy devotion to gimmick gameplay instead of just making a good console like they used to. how is this a gimmick? it's the most standard console we've had since the n64. it's a really smart idea to combine the console and handheld market and spend all their time developing games for 1 system

Yeah, that part is fucking amazing
hopefully this one sells well and Nintendo can keep supporting games for their own system, IF they put all their teams to work on 1 system, holy shit we would have enough nintendo games for a lifetime

The 3DS gets plenty of 3rd party support. I just hope we get the right kind of 3rd party support since I play my 3DS a lot and couldn't care less about consoles. For example, I would rather have a Bravely Default game rather than a Final Fantasy game from Square.

I'm willing to let them wow me with good games like the Wii U never did (until it was too late - only this year did the Wii U look like a good buy). But if it's over $300 and has very few good games on it (and I'm not counting 5 year old ports here) it's gonna be just like old times.

except its not a portable console ?
you could literally stick it to its dock and call it a day, boom, home console.

I like nintendo's games, but usually that is not enough to buy the console. Personally i don't care about the feature they are showing me in the video, i simply would want a nintendo console which is strong enough for third party support. I will be honest personally i would prefer it if they just released their games on other platforms at this point ...

You do know that the most recent Tegras (the ones announced well before this one, actually, so this ones likely even higher specs) were 4 core (same as PS4) and clocked at speed ~15-20% faster than PS4 processors... right?
This is besides the fact that even mobile CPU/GPU's have stepped it up hugely in the last few years, we just haven't been able to see the results yet. But do some searching... Ever since 3 iPhone iterations ago, the biggest performance gains were NOT on iPhone rendering, but on HDMI rendering speeds. They just haven't pushed forward with this, or officially announced what they are going to do w/ it yet. But that time will come eventually.
Hence all the discussions by analysts ~2 years ago that said the current generation will likely be the last generation for old fashioned home consoles.
Nintendo is just trying to beat them to it.

i think the majority of my catalog on gba/ds/3ds, of the 80 or 90 games that i own... are probably like at least 90% third party... the only first party games that i can think of are gba metroids (fusion/zero mission), mario cart ds and 7, animal crossing ds and 3ds (pretty sure it's nintendo??), and of course new super mario bros. while these games are ALL at least 9/10 in my book, it's kinda disingenuous to say that 3rd party support for nintendo consoles isn't important.. it was a failing of the wii and wii u that there wasn't more of it. nintendo needs to tap the indie market and help fund ports for this system imo (undertale? momodora 4? secrets of grindea? bloodstained? cavestory).. all of these games would work great on a console like this, and it's a free boost to their catalog when compared to trying to get someone like activision to make a shitty port of cod..
edit spelling...

Its competely different to the Wii and WiiU which had its gimmick forced into the console, you bought into the wiimote and the wiiu gamepad, this "portable" aspect is just an option, just like is an option to play it on a TV.
Its pretty much what you want it to be

It turns out that this one gimmick is awesome :D. But realistically, Nintendo wouldn't have a chance in the current market, even their home console needs some kind of "oh"-factor to be successful.

I mean, im not calling it a gimmick in a bad way :p im just saying is "out of the norm" kind of gimmick
