Is it yay or nay? And what are other must have games of the last few years? How are prices of "older" games? Coming mainly from PC/ Steam I'm used to games having 50% off

Maybe 10-20% off though!

edit: Sony has NEVER used LCD screens for anything Vita. So that would most likely rule them out.

There aren't just two levels of exploration (ground and air). There's a third, enormous, underground area called the Depths that might actually end up tripling the amount of exploration from BotW, rather than simply doubling it.

Some games to look at: zelda botw & totk, mario odyssey, super smash bros ultimate, xenoblade 2&3, fire emblem 3 houses and engage, octopath traveler 1&2

So I’ll go ahead and share a spoiler I found on Reddit + Show Spoiler + In the end is revealed that Link’s name was indeed actually Zelda. No but seriously the map is way bigger than what was shown in trailers. Even more impressive is how seamless it is. At this point I would suggest to not watch that and just head straight into the game. Maybe watch the last trailer to get hyped. Also

I also happen to work there and the CS team got an alert that they would be receiving a lot of calls due to thousands of preorders and that there could be delays in shipping. There was a midnight launch event in my city. They sent most of the copies they had to that location. At 4:30am they were still people in the queue to get their copy. Since my copy hasn’t arrived I decided to go to a local store to get a copy as soon as they opened. They had 12 copies in stock and more that 25 people were in line when I got there (before opening). Hmm I think this game may be selling well. ________ I also wanted to share this comments from Aonuma regarding vehicles and dungeons. And, of course, thinking about the kinds of vehicles players are going to create – they don't actually need to create any vehicles since they can choose not to use vehicles – and making sure all of that feels right was a lot of work. When thinking of games in the past that we've worked on, where there was a puzzle to solve and only one answer, that's kind of the past way of developing games. The old Zelda formula never coming back

Anyway, I've played enough yesterday and today I'm able to share some non-spoilery impressions. Things I like: -I do think this is a better game than BotW. --Building things is super fun. At first it's kind of weid, but once you understand how the 2 movement options you have work, and that they are actually very simple, it makes perfect logical sense. And once you get the logic, building things becomes fast and mindless. -I like the changes made to the world. -The new mechanics are cool. They are definitetly more complex than botw, but they work together nicely and they expand over time the more you play and end up being fantastic. -Enemy variety is great. Things I don't like: -I think BotW did a better job at the begining in guiding you. While I like the tutorial area here and the options, I think the great plateu was more intuitive. A little more "tight" design wise. -I think BotW did a better job in how it treated the begining of the game. It's kind of slow, specially because even after you get off the first area you still need to do that weird quest in the town to get something very important for exploration. I guess this is spoilers regarding a question of what happened with the sheika tech: + Show Spoiler + -What happened to the sheika tech? I know zonai devices were originally supposed to be sheika tech, but they couldn't have possibly left such a big plot hole when they transformed them into zonai tech and sheika tech just dissapeared.... could they? ____ I've seen people complain that this game is too similar to BotW: I don't think complaining about this game being close gameplay wise to botw is a valid criticism. We knew that already. The map also has more changes than it appears at first. Even then, I do understand people wanting a new map, however: 1.-We already knew the base map would be similar. 2.-There is nothing wrong with 1 game in the series expanding the map. Games before, and games after will have all new maps, enjoy this one. Things I'm neutral about. -The game is harder now in terms of fighting enemies. -The game is more complex now, in terms of the abilities you have. -There's many more quest and "collectibles" now, which might be good, or might feel daunting. I forgot how much the early game sucks. A stamina meter that allows for 2 seconds of sprinting. 7 or so slots for degradeable weapons. Bleh. Hehe yeah, it's pivotal to upgrade those things fast.

+ Show Spoiler + I'm 15 shrines in now, so still super early game. The game is extremely similar to BOTW, but at the same time they changed the "core mechanics" (freeze/time stop/bombs/magnet pull -> ultrahand/fuse/recall) which means all the puzzles and even the combat are quite different. Still, as a fan of the earlier zelda games (see my post a few pages earlier, gimme 8 dungeons like the oracle games/link's awakening), I'm a bit disappointed. I have gotten frustrated a fair amount of times already while playing. Some of the mechanics in this game are just beyond shit for no reason. I already complained about the basic stamina circle and the very limited amount of weapon slots, but here are some other gripes: - not being able to climb in the rain (HOLY SHIT WHY DID THEY BRING THIS BACK) - the cooking system - I had to google how to cook. The 'A' prompt next to a fire is 'sit'. So first I tried dropping ingredients from my inventory into the pot but that didn't work. Turns out you have to press '+', scroll down your massive inventory to find the ingredient you want, hit 'A', choose 'Hold', close the menu, and THEN the 'A' prompt next to the cooking pot becomes 'cook' instead of 'sit'. - the extremely awkward/clunky horse controls, I can't think of many games where horse riding feels worse than in this one. Not being able to interact with ingredients/plants you drive past on horseback is also quite annoying, have to get off the horse, pick it up, get back on the horse each time. - Spending 5 minutes building a boat, or any other vehicle with logs, then when you want to power up the zonai device while you still have your axe in hand, you accidentally break the whole vehicle and have to start over. 10/10. I've also ruined things for myself by playing too many PS5 games. The graphics, the controls and especially the controller itself just don't feel great. PS5's dualshock controller is 5 tiers above joycons lol. Shrines are still a bit sucky. Go in, solve a simple puzzle, go out, repeat 100 times. I'm sounding like a broken record but bring back the dungeons of old times. When people wanted to counter the criticism that 'it's the same map as BOTW', they pointed out that there's a skymap and an underground map in this game. But so far it looks like both the skymap and the underground map are pretty minimal and the Hyrule map is still 90% of the world. This might still change, only explored like 5% of the world (4 lookout towers). Despite all the above, I'm still excited to go and play the game, and no doubt I'll end up doing all shrines and collecting all Koroks, pumping 100+ hours into it. But for me, this is not GOTY material.

But for me, this is not GOTY material. Yeah I also wish you could pick up stuff while riding a horse. There are new potions and a new armor set that lets you climb in rain better. I agree the switch controllers aren't great. I bought an 8bitdo ultimate controller, which is kind of expensive, but works for both switch andd PC, and will never get joystick drift, and that's what I've been using. To shortcut cooking, open your inventory and select an ingredient you're going to use, then select "Cook from Recipe" or whatever the option is, and it shows recipes you've made with that ingredient. Pick one that you can make and it automatically makes Link hold all those ingredients Also, I suggest checking out these 2 threads where people share tips & tricks. Super useful stuff. https://old.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13hz2ol/totk_got_any_small_tips_or_tricks_to_share/ https://www.reddit.com/r/zelda/comments/13i9kli/tips_and_tricks_megathread_round_1_post/ For example I had issues using the gliders in areas that didn't have a ramp. They always toppled over from the border and I fell... And then it turns out you can use ultra hand to lift them up in the air and then back into the ground, then get on the glider, and use recall. And then the glider will lift up (since you had lifted it previously with ultrahand), and you can stop the recall when you're at the top and just glide from there. Very useful. I didn't know you could mix ultra hand and recall that way, it opens up thousands of posibilities You can also mix it with ascend. You can put a table in the air with ultra hand and then back on the ground. use recall so it elevates it back, run beneath it and use ascend and now you're up! ____ As for the overall game. Like I said I do think this is a better game than BotW, and there's much more to do, even in the regular map. But I do think BotW will age "better" because it was more revolutionary. Kind of like Ocarina of time vs Twilight Princess. TP is ocarina of time but better but everyone praises Ocarina for being revolutionary. I would describe the gameplay of this game like this compared to BotW: In terms of gameplay expect improvements but not a massive departure. Every system is improved, but no system works radically different. Just better and with more options. Edit: Something super useful. When using ultra hand, using ZL puts the items horizontally in 1 motion.
