Along with the animations and music, I really enjoyed the battle system though. I think the Break system from Bravely/OT is pretty smart, especially with the weapon/element weaknesses that contribute to the breaking of different enemies. I think in a lot of RPGs, the gamer just repeatedly uses the same "current best" skill over and over again until a new "current best" skill is unlocked; I think the Break system was a unique way to force gamers to use a variety of weapons and skills. It's very rare for me to even consider using a physical staff attack with a mage character, when I could just continue launching high-damage spells, but this game really made me think about optimal strategies in a way most other games hadn't. On top of the Break system, I thought the BP charges added another level of complexity in combat, and it was super-rewarding to time the combination of breaking an enemy + mass BP unleash, and other combat mechanics that I had to plan and set up for across multiple turns.

I wouldn't say that. I enjoyed XC1 a lot but disliked the combat system in XC2 immensely. XC2 has had quite a divisive reception among XC1 fans. Seems to me like there's a few people like that in the past few posts as well so it isn't as unpopular an opinion as you think it is. Both games had you auto-attack to enable arts but you could actually kill stuff with arts in XC1. I mained Melia in XC1 and using arts properly is what the combat revolved around. In XC2, arts just enabled the next layer of arts, which just enabled the next layer of arts and I don't remember which layer actually did respectable damage. It felt over engineered without really adding much depth. Reminded me of FF13 where you did shit for damage until you broke monsters. I enjoyed Octopath even though I have the same criticisms with the story. They didn't really do a good job of tying all 8 stories together. In fact, nothing did tie them together except for that 1 last, hidden, optional quest. I did love the combat, however. So many of these newer JRPGS (Octopath, Bravely Default, Persona, Etrian Odyssey, Legend of Heroes) have way better turn-based combat than the old FF games from the 90s and the Dragon Quest series.

Natsume Championship Wrestling is a very under rated multiplayer game. cool to see it coming to the Switch. More office shenanigans... Nintendo/NES Ice Hockey is a another very under rated competitive multiplayer game. I highly recommend Nintendo/NES Ice Hockey on the Switch

ff7+8 twin pack is 51 euros there. https://www.play-asia.com/final-fantasy-vii-final-fantasy-viii-remastered-twin-pack-multi/13/70cs9p It's 67 on Amazon https://www.amazon.de/Fantasy-Multi-Language-Version-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07ZD8JTRL/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=ff7 +8 switch&qid=1594656553&sr=8-1 I am worried that after taxes, shipping and customs it would be just as expensive on play-asia? I have to pay 19% tax extra for sure right?

Mostly because I fould the same price at Galaxus though. It's apparently really big in Switzerland and should be safe. They sell in Germany now. Tax included and free shipping. https://www.galaxus.de/de/s1/product/square-enix-final-fantasy-78-twin-pack-uk-switch-de-fr-it-en-ja-game-box-12432680

I've only played the DS and 3DS SMT games and they were all pretty badass Just gotta manage my time in a way that I don't get SMT burnout. If SMT5 comes out by the time I finish Nocturne, I don't think I'd want to play another SMT game right away

I'm also looking forward to any news about the Persona 5 Scramble localization and that original fantasy game Atlus is working on. Maybe we can get a port of Persona 5 Royal on the Switch and/or PC as well. Speaking of the DS and 3DS, I was a big fan of Devil Survivor. Here's hoping Atlus resurrects that series after the recent success of Fire Emblem.

SMT 5 is likely coming out late in 2021 at the earliest, absent any delays, so it should be spaced out a little. 4 was probably my least favorite of the DS/3DS SMT games I played. My personal ranking of the ones I played is Strange Journey > 4A > 4. Haven't played DeSu or Soul Hackers, both are games I've considered playing if I have time. Strange Journey was pretty much my dream JRPG from the get-go, mixing SMT demon party-building mechanics with EO-style dungeon crawling. 4A I consider to be such a massive improvement over 4 in virtually every aspect of gameplay that it makes up for the relatively weaker story.

I skipped 4A because I heard the story was weaker than 4, which I already didn't like. I tend to not like the order/chaos routes of SMT games. I find the characters too unlikable with their extreme views. DeSu 1 was the only one where I actually found most of the routes to be ok.

Basically I'm in the camp that feels like the Paper Mario series took a dark turn with Sticker Star and have lost faith in Nintendo ever returning to the elements that made the series what it was when it began. I know I am not alone as the focus of the series has shifted to a "aesthetic" gimmick similar to the Yoshi games (Wooly and Crafted) rather than the Storybook-RPG theme that was the clear inspiration of the first 2 games. I saw a recommendation for an Indie game called Bug Fable, and was described as a return to form of the roots of Paper Mario. I decided to try the game out today, and having just finished the first chapter can confirm that this game is top notch. If you enjoyed the original game on the N64 this game will hit you hard in the nostalgia.

Kinda sucks that the Brazillian switch store doesn't have it, and that if I want to buy it on the US switch store I have to play 2-3 times more than on steam. I might up buying it on steam I guess.

A tip of the cap to Walmart and Nintendo for doing what they can to diminish console hoarding and reselling on ebay. The price is $400 Canadian Dollars which is roughly $300 USD.
