Players have always been able to manipulate the AI through diplomacy so as to optimize their defense costs. It's been a part of pretty much every civ game. Frankly, I always have enjoyed warmongering in civ games, so fuck that diplomacy bullshit.
Yep I agree. Except in civ 4. I couldnt get open borders or working relations with toku for the life of me Xp
Well Civ IV was the zenith of Civ games IMO. I mean it had multiple leaders, commodities could be traded, corporations, vassals, religious peace agreements.

I can only recommend Civ4 RFC DoC. After a usual brief flirt with newer Civ games I always come back to this mod/conversion.
I don't understand what a Corps is. Isn't it just combined units that are slightly stronger but cost extra time to build?
Why not just build two units -> Double attack turns

I'm a bit disappointed in this expansion. Feels like there is even more early-game/mid-game effects and very little changing in the late-game. Did I misunderstand something because it felt like this game's current meta is all about early-game lead and then just running with it. Like with the Roman empire, rushing to Legion and mowing town the first two-cities you encounter is almost a guaranteed lead that you can just win with late-game.
In the late game, you need corps and armies to maximize tile efficiency because you won’t be able to bring your full military strength to bear at any given point locally. The strength bonus that they give is also really important if your enemy is at tech parity with you.

I haven't looked at the Civ 6 civ list for a while, but I still think that Macedon may very well be the most bullshit militaristic civ in the game. Their unique trait lets you completely mitigate the opportunity costs of warmongering.

That's because Zulu isn't in the game yet. But I seem to remember them being among the top tier in Civs 3, 4 and 5.

I think that their dominance in prior games was mostly a function of AI behavior as opposed to their civ traits. Shaka has always been a grade A asshole.
Shaka and Genghis Khan imo were on average the two most fearsome war leaders across civ games. Impis having reduced maintenance is going to be really strong. A few Impis corps coming at you when you only have archers is a scary thought.
