It it pretty much like playing wc3 with drophack.
I have to say that chicken is one of the "better" hacks because it does not fuck up other people, though.
BTW New runedrops are awesome :D Found jah/cham/vex/lo/zod this ladder.
Never found any HR before at all, then I rape my way through cs with my hammer and all of a sudden a Zod lies in front of me O_O Found them all in the same week, I even found the Jah and the Lo in the same game.
And the start of the ladder was so good - I have never witnessed that many noobs outing themselves and getting killed by Dia norm etc. Happens if all you can is getting rushed :p

By increasing high rune drops, they've brought down all the dupes, and in addition item prices. Mara doesn't cost 10 HR's, but something like 2 Ber. The lower HR's aren't worth nearly as much, but Jah and Ber definately sell well.
Recently I've had a Cham, 48 War travs, arach, Eth CV, Eth CS drop. I really need a Lo so I don't have to babysit my bitch with full rejuvs when fighting Andy/Meph. I also need a torch .
I found 3 HR's last season (if I remember correctly), and I've found 2 so far this season.

I didn't know people still played diablo2. I remember rushing the day the game came out through the normal game just so i could play hardcore and there was nobody to play with because everyone stayed on softcore.
I deffinately missed the vanilla diablo2 though. I thought the "rare" items being the best in the game was awesome. The random chance of getting a godly item. You would see a rare lance drop and it could be total shit or godly.
I remember my 298% sword 1 killing anyone w/ one whirlwind and blocking 75% w/ minimum in dex lol.. pure sta with str boot rares. Oh the good old days before "uniques" which are far from unique became good and ruined it.
|
I lost a couple of high 60's on the same day due to lag and stopped playing diablo 2 after that. That was years ago. When D3 comes out I'll be playing hardcore.
|
To everyone who responds with "but you'll just lose it in the end": it's about the journey not the ending.
Played a freezing orb/fire wall sorc (or something like that, it's been a long time) up into the 70s. I Was in act 3 when I got a lag spike and was torn down by a pack of those jungle midgets.
I didn't yell or break anything. I felt the blood rush out of my face and just stood at the screen for at least a good five minutes in silence.
It's one of those handful of moments in my gaming life that I'll probably never forget. In the end I'm glad to have had the experience.

Playing hardcore characters is just ... I dunno. It doesn't really elevate the experience, it just brings stress in.
I personally made like 10 chars and geared them up in single player trading only items with my friend who I played with over hamachi occasionally. We did it all, hammeradin, shockadin, minion-less werewolf, summoner, bonemancer etc ... we even tried the dentist - lol. If you think you did it all and are still hungry for more you can try Median XL mod (just google it), it changes all the characters a lot, and the outside world too, bringing in special challenges for items in a few instanced zones. It is actually very hard, and it might take some time getting used to new skills and mechanics. I strongly advise you to read the pdf the game comes along with if you decide playing it.

I still play D2, quite a bit... rare items are still the best and rarest in the game...godly circlets and ammies, trap claws, 5nado/6bo helms...rare as hell. No unique can compete.
Never play HC though except for LAN and funny LLD tourneys. Trading and finding items is the fun part of the game...not dying.
If anyone wants to start playing USWEST Softcore I can hook you up with starting gear and give you some tips...I'm rather rich. PM me

Last time I played D2 I got my hc bliz sorc to 89 in CLASSIC. Oh yeah baby, that was some serious fun. There's nothing like teleporting to the center of hell chaos to tp for your party for some super fast runs. That is a rush. We also had sorcs running act1 finding exp shrines to use on D. Then our team leader, 92 bone nec died in a chaos run. I died a week or so later while MFing the high council. Man I'm starting to miss the game talking about it. Anyway, I wasn't too sad when my char died, I've been playing hc for a long time. It's the only way to play D2 imo.
Sadly I probably won't ever be able to play again.
Edit: I also had some LEET items. Classic's much more fun simply for the fact that some items are once in a lifetime irreplaceable. T_T Still never found a single soj though, after hundreds and hundreds of nm andy and meph runs.

Oh shit this thread just reminded me.. I forgot to make sure my characters didn't expire

Such a waste of so much gear.. And i'll miss my poor kicksin too, she was my favorite

Not this ladder season but last ladder season. I got home drunk and decided to mf meph. But i started a hell game instead of nm on the second best sorcy. I had mostly mf gear equiped with wizard spike and gull dagger. I found some fanta dolls and instead of alt f4 i decided I could pot past them. too bad my potion button wasn't end process.

I usually just log on. My character names are complicated so even if they expire, I can usually get them back.
I might try hardcore again. It's a shame none of my friends would currently LAN it, so I might have to take the risk and run with some random people.

There's a few HC dedicated channels (PK free) which you can find about at the diabloiii forums. I'm not sure wether its only europe gateway though but they seem to have a decent amount of players and they do KTA (Kill them all) clears fairly often.
They also host Baal/CS runs, possibly do ubers too I dunno.

I quit D2 a long, long time ago. But I always played hardcore, exactly because of the threat of dieing. It made D2 into a whole new game, where you were constantly on your toes, you would level your character quite different, and you'd learn how to actually play really well. (However, hackers made it unplayable in public games.) While I understand the incentive of playing without any kind of pressure, that's not the way I like it. I'm supprised so many members of a competitive gaming site do.

there no more TPPK anymore anyway. And you can avoid any pk its simple rule, if you get hostile by a LLD just leave the game lol.

I agree that playing HC with Chicken basically eliminates the entire point of HC, unless all of your friends refuse to play anything but HC, and you still want to play with friends.
Also, I find the entire item trading and MFing business entirely unattractive, but then the game that gets played on the Ladder is a completely different game than just playing through it from Act I normal to Act V Hell. That's why I play mostly Single Player. A pity Gloams are such a pain for an untwinked Sorceress tough. Thank heavens I got lucky enough to find a Wizard spike and Shaftstop (those resists from spike andthat 30% DR from shaft saved my life from nasties like stygian dolls more than once), or I'd have been in a far bigger world of hurt. (She isn't HC, btw, but dying still sucks)

uhh, TPPK and other PK glitching is alive and well

They fixed it in 1.13.
"Fixed an issue where some players could kill other players while in town (“TPPK”)."

Ive lost multiple level 90s+ and 3x99s -_- QQ more

Level 85 Blaze sorc, it was pre-synergies so it might have been vanilla.
I knew a guy who played D2 like he played nethack. Play from scratch, and when you die, start the next character. Soloed (although in multiplayer games), no leeching.
You mourn each character when it dies and ponder the meaning of life when you actually earn your progress.
