Ok so im feeling very emo right now. My hardrcore character that ive been playing for about a month with my brother just died (he was a 36 druid). He got surrounded by those big mofo guys that baal summons and I was unable to get out.
Does anyone else play hardcore? and If so whats your highest level character and share with me your crushing stories of character death (So I might feel a little better).

Only time I played hardcore was on LAN with one friend, fairly recently.
Friend went summoner, myself trapper.. very easy. Mostly went around on players 8.
Friend died in one hit to a boss pack gloam getting aura'd from another boss in anya's cellar? i cant remember the damn name right now. Oh, in hell that is.
Haven't really played since because it was just for fun on LAN, trapper is still alive at around level 84 halfway through hell act 5.

my necro died on 48 because of lag i never played hardcore after that again

if u play with your brother only and you are on the same network you should play on lan (hamachi is the next choise is you're on diferent netw.) if you play on lan u can make back up's of your characters : copy on another location the file <name> .d2s then when your character dies you restore the last backup (you should make backups in game (alt-tab to do that) every 20-30 minutes or so besides u can make a 36lvl char in 4-5 days at most gl agiaegaergeargaeg

yeah we do play on lan. But we both agreed that there would be no cheating and no character backing up. It kinda defeats the purpose of playing hardcore.

the purpose for hardcore chars is an extra edge of ...w/e , but its not the end seing that is a game in witch finding items > game pleasure > making quests; the purpose for playing d2 is grinding , lvling , finding items than brag about it you should bet on chars deaths ; with every death you pay up

hardcore is too much for lvl 36 imho

I have many hardcore character, some have died - if you play nighmare/hell difficulty lag may often be the reason, or fucking stygian dolls. Highest character survived 66 hardcore assasin, hell difficulty act 1(half quests completed)... however my disk fucked so I've lost it .
My friend had a nice hardcore death - on normal difficulty in act 4, fighting diablo. When diablo used the bone prison to trap him and purple lightning to finnish him. He would have probably survived if he didn't panic and break the prison in the first place.

We play Hardcore because we've played thru the game to hell and it just gets boring. When playing harcore theres always that risk of dieing, So when you go into battles against bosses its like a rush. Its exciting becuase you mess up and ure dead.
The bigger the risk the more fun you have. And the higher level and better items you get, the more valuable ure hardcore character is to you, therefore increasing the risk.
We play on Lan with each other only, because it elimates the chance of a lag death. Because dieing with a hardcore character is sad. But dieing because of a lag spike, well thats a lot more painful

had a lvl 92 hammerdin with very very nice items (was always doing rushes or baal runs with ovvi, he had a nice sorc)
so i went down a5 last wp to lvl my merc (he needed 1 more level to be able to use the weapon i wanted him to use)
well long story short, while vacuuming the living room, mym mum unplugged the internet so when i logged back in, i was dead
thats the day when i swore to never play HC again i can do lvl 50 in one day and lvl 75 in 2 days but HC still is a waste of time imo, cause on day u will most probably die

90 freezing arrow zon is the highest i ever got. usually i stopped playing when i did hell baal because i would get bored, but freezing arrow zon is amazingly fun because you make the monsters cease to exist when you hit them. i havent played in a long time so im guessing its expired.

Go to the single-player forum. They regularly start up new HC "tourneys" with special conditions (like only using white items, or only 1 skill, or no skills at all, etc) that continually breath new life into the game for me. I hate D2 on bnet, but single player is okay, and the HC tourneys are pretty entertaining. diabloiinet is pretty strict about abusing editors, bots, etc, so if you decide to join the community, stear clear of those third-party programs. Or if you must use those programs, at least avoid the trade forums.

My highest level hc character (in single player) was necromancer (skellies ftw!), he was level 64 and died in some very very stupid way (I think it was because I didn't pay enough attention for a moment). The hardest things that I remember there was beating Diablo on normal, damn this dude kicked so much ass, all of my skellies and my merc died so fast... I remember that I had to kill him for like 1-2 hours. That was what I feared at nightmare too but then he proved to be a sissy. I was sure that my hc char will die on nightmare diablo as I still remembered how much trouble I had with him on normal but he died before I even noticed Managed to kill maybe 2 of my skellies.
btw. If anyone would like to make summoner necro there's 2 things you need: merc with thorns aura and 2 curses - life tap (your skellies last much longer) and decrepify (works nice vs bosses).

Diablo2 single player is where it's at. Playing online is just a cheat when you can get to level 75 within 2-3 days. I'm just playing non-hardcore now, but the next character im gonna play with will be a HC one.

Level 36 is way way too low to try Baal on Hardcore. You should have like a +10-20 level buffer over what's normally considered "safe" before you progress. Level 36 isn't too much to get worked up over, you can hit that in like 1-2 days =)

i was playing on a private server with other people on tl.net. We all played HC and i dont know how many times i died (too many to count). My highest was a lvl 65 druid but i had a couple of 40s and high 30s which are obviously harder to get then on battle.net because u dont get rushed most of time, monsters are 10x harder and u really cant beat most quest alone. I was probably the best D2 player to ever play it with an average of 17 FPS.

He was so pissed off.

My only HC was a lvl84 summonmancer. He hasn't died yet, but I kinda quit D2. Yay for hiding behind minions :D
