lost a fire soso lv 72 in act 2 sewers thx 2 TPPK. Lost a 89 fishymancer in travical thx 2 lag and imba boss/champion faithful+hierophants spawns on hell diff. Lost a very well equipped kicksin around lv 60 in flayer jungle because of surround on hell difficulty. Lost another soso (ice) around lv 65 to doom beetles in the maggot nest on hell difficulty.
The pain is huuuuge, but also, those 4 characters are my proudest moments in my D2 career. Once you go HC you'll never go back to SC.

A standard summon+corpse explosion necro, somehow it got that name because a guy called Nightfish made a pretty comprehensive guide for it a couple of years ago.
I'm at the point where playing HC doesn't really matter. I know what to do survive at every point in the game so the only thing that kills me is my connection or if I decide to sacrifice some safety to gain speed when doing runs.
I did manage to lose my level 96 sorceress this ladder season to a double pack of soul/gloam bosses with conviction though. It was a combination of bad preparation in terms of my equipment and lack of reflexes.

why do they hurt so bad when ppl have max lightning resist, do you ignore resists?

Gloams for some reason have a tendency often come with elites that have conviction aura.
Other than that the lightning spell they use has a high damage range. It's something like 50-5000 or some crazy crap....75% of 5000 is still going to hit you for 1250

I played Diablo 2 hardcore for 3 years when I was younger.. Ended up selling all my characters including a 94 hardcore sorcy for $4500 Yes, it is the worst feeling in the world to have ur internet connection go out while doing a mephisto run and losing a lvl 85 hardcore character.. Caused me much depression lol

why the fuck would you make a FAKE LAN when youre on a real LAN!
if u play with your brother only and you are on the same network you should play on lan (hamachi is the next choise is you're on diferent netw.)
You're going to have to obviously assume that he made a typo and meant "hamachi is the next choice IF you're on different netw."
I've also started playing Hardcore again. I get bored...

Part of their damage is physical, and the lightning thing deals damage several times per second. Multiply that times however many gloams you got beating on you and it gets ugly fast.

Back in the good ole days you could make quite a killing off of D2 things before the massive duping came in.
Actually Blizzard games have a weird tendency to do that. I'm not ashamed to say that I paid my car off by selling excess gold in WoW because I was so good at playing the auction house. If people are willing to pay....lol

God, I hate gloams so much, its a bitch to die whilst getting shot from 2 screens away, atleast i get some satisfaction when i raise them back with my summonmancer.
and hi nikon ^^

I love playing Nethack and think permadeath in Roguelikes makes things interesting - BUT - I have not and will never play HC Diablo because things outside of my control (internet) can make a hundred hours of work go up in smoke.

My old college roomate and I pulled in over 80k off diablo2. We sold the first duped carrion song for $740 on ebay which was the best bow in vanilla. Pimped out accounts were worth a lot, but I just sold individual (duped) items back before it was rampant. We weren't the only ones duping back then, but I think we might have been the first ones to start to make money off of it.
I made more money off D2 than any MMO i've sold for. Shadowbane was probably 2nd highest with duped gold being the only real way to afford a city but the market got saturated so quickly after the dupe method we were using got leaked by someone.

Ya it was retarded how much you could make off of D2 back in the day, of course back then my friends and I were "too noble" to do stuff like that, we were also 12-15 years old and didn't need money, if only if only...
anyway, this is nostalgic, might have to start playing D2 after Beta closes.

Me and some friends used to have 6-8 comps running 3-4 bots each 24/7 we were pulling in over $1k a week each, good times we thought we were such pimps walking around school flashing stacks of $100 bills to buy lunch even though we knew they couldn't break it, this was like 6th/7th grade.

i have a level 75 sorc in hardcore but iv lost 2 barbs one level 50 something and one level 30 something at the same bit!!! in the ancients way those pots of evil things people keep opening them and the monster that come out own me it happened twice!

lol!! carrion song! i remember those days! i remember SOJ in d2c being the most valuable item with only silks being near its equivalent but SOJ could get you anything then right before LoD, SOJ turned into a currency and high ED gothic bows were all the craze right in the middle of the duping exploits it took ~20-40 SOJs to get a carrion song or a high enhanced damage gothic bow it was carrion song on USWest and then some inferior bow (i can't remember the name of it for the life of me) on USEast
ehh those were the days
on topic: I used to play hc mode almost exclusively in LoD I got a 91 sorc who was ranked top 100 on ladder right when patch 1.10 was released (i think thats what it was called) I had pretty much every single valuable item out there at the time so I could've died 10 times over and still have full gear for a new character did a ton of MF until I got bored and never made any other characters
shouldve ebayed it all, had about a dozen of pimped out mules T_T! (couldve made a couple grand easily, oh well)
I know dying in HC can turn a lot of people off right away, but if you have a nice network of friends, they'll hook you up fast with a rush through hell mode and then hook you up w/ some gear and help you with quests you'll be pimpin it up in no time, then start doin MF/leveling eventually on your own for better gear
You should've also been saving all the drops incase its a new ladder season to make for smooth leveling incase you need to start over And if you get to lvl 80-90 then you can just non stop MF until you have a ridiculous amount of good gear saved up to make dying less upsetting since it'll b easy to start over
