Maybe they have lowered the speed limit for hatching eggs? I just walk playing this game so it's hard for me to notice the limit anyway. under 7.5 Miles Per Hour is a pretty terrible limit to set :/ I've noticed something similar. I went about 9 miles Saturday and got about 4.5km credit I think.

Finally found the Grimer that had been popping up on the tracker in a certain area. Had to go way back behind the plaza, appropriately in a sketchy, grungy locale. Hit 110 pokedex and finally hatched a 84% IV gastly so that's ready to go to gengar in my next lucky egg run.

Obviously the gps isn't that bad.. for 5.5mi you should be getting atleast 4.5 miles on your eggs

i think the limit is 10/5 km/h, which is about 6.5m/h. they have modified it a number of times though.

It's just bizarre as I regularly get tons of credit when driving through parking lots etc... just seems silly as people can drive that slow if they really want to but if you want to run or bike you're out of luck. I've had good trips in the past riding my bike leisurely before. I wouldn't even mind it that much if it would just tell me when I'm not getting credit.
I could care less if someone is abusing it by hatching lots of eggs driving down some country road at 5mph for 30 min.
|
Yeah... it's pretty crappy that I have to choose between getting good exercise and playing PoGo considering the entire reason I play PoGo is to keep me motivated to get good exercise. If I've already run 5km or 10km today I don't want to go around walking the same distance just for Pokemon Go .
|
My jogging pace doesn't break the speed limit but I'm pretty slow, just under 10km/h. I guess proper runners get screwed by it.
Also in general Pokemon Go tracks about 85% of the distance I cover.

walked 2,5 kms from hotel to conference this morning, tracked 2,5 kms. Same on the way back. When I woke up I bought a new incubator and put a 5km egg in it, it hatched just before I returned.
At walking speed my distance tracked is (and has always been) pretty much perfect. Biking is another matter.
|
a) I wish it was communicated more clearly what the cut-off is so I can appropriately merge PoGo with my exercise b) raise the speed limit for credit so I can run/bike at a moderate pace, I don't think anyone cares if someone abuses the distance tracking and I don't think this changes anything safety-wise because people are still going to do this in vehicles.
I've gotten 4km walking around at work today... seems silly to have that count for so much more.

i care if people abuse the distance tracking. i legit walked 120 kms to get my muk, and i would be disappointed to know that someone was able to do the same thing by abusing the game. i also dont agree on safety issues. this game should not be played in the car, period. i dont care if you are a passenger or not. they should disable the game completely over certain speeds. they are going to get hit with a lawsuit when someone playing pokemon go hits someone (its already happened overseas), and they should be held responsible for allowing/encouraging it.
although i am jealous of people who ride their bikes while playing, i do agree they should do something to allow people to play the games at reasonable speeds approximating jogging and casual biking. i also would like for them to create a link with my exercise bike for those rainy days.

Boy, I guess you don't like it when I commute my traffic-laden bus...

Boy, I guess you don't like it when I commute my traffic-laden bus... i assume you mean that i dont like it when you play during your commute on the bus. commuters are going to be collateral damage if i get my way, but that is not a big concern to me. i have yet to see anything from niantic that says this game was intended to be played in a motor vehicle, which defeats the whole point of everything hanke has strived for with his multiple games (i.e., getting people out and about, and seeing the sights presumably while walking).

That's fair, its just already happening is my point. The difference between 5mph and 10mph isn't going to stop someone from just cruising around slowly in their car. You should already be disappointed. The difference between 5 and 10 does affect whether you can run/bike while playing. In a perfect world they'd know whether you were in a vehicle or not but I'm not sure how they could.

Speaking completley outta my ass on this one but given that pokemon still asks you for access to everything (on android anyways) when you first launch it, they might be able to read if your connected to your car via bluetooth and disable any mileage tracking.

banning passengers is absurd. an enormous player base commutes via public transport. that's a selfish and unreasonable expectation, thankfully niantic disagrees with you.

|
Yes, banning people from using the game on public transport will definitely help retain the fraction of players they have left.
If you were seriously against people playing the game passively, the #1 target is big lure piles anyway.
