This should be more accurate.
Words cannot express the contempt I feel for them right now. Not only did they leave out all the factions that I absolutely love about the game, but from what it seems they will be behind a separate paywall. What a bunch of scumbags!
The sad thing about it, though, is that people will still buy it. Even if it will be full of bugs that are not fixable by the community, and even if they ask you to strip naked and dance for them, a Total War game in the Warhammer franchise is just what everyone was salivating about for years. Such a shame, I am sure as hell not giving them my money...

If they have any brains, they will focus on making a good single-player experience worthy of your $40-50. Let the community handle the multiplayer.

They did the same thing with Sparta(popular because 300) and how did that game turn out? Can you please clarify? So is it a pre-order bonus (like Artanis in LotV pre-order being given in heroes) or is it actually DLC? (as in game costs €50 but if you pre-order for €60 you get Chaos). From your reaction I reckon it must be the second o.O Im going to do a quick search to check it out. EDIT: Errrr from the steam information it says pre-order now and get Chaos for free o.O I don't have a problem with that (nevertheless the game is actually €60 lol but still no increase seems to be given as it clearly says Chaos for free as a bonus for pre-ordering the game :s) yeah, its a punishment for not preordering. They took the most popular faction apart from empire and hold it hostage, forcing you to preorder if you want to play the game near release, they punish people who want to wait a few days or weeks for reviews. And this time reviews are even more important because they want to stop mods, so no fixing from the community. EDIT: Though I have to disagree on the most (or second most) popular faction...when I saw the game announced, most people on the forums asked for Lizardmen, TK and Dwarfs... I dont get how you cant see a problem in cutting out a very impotant part of the game and giving it only back for free for people who preorder the unseen game.
That is probably due to the fact that I have zero experience with CA and their games.....from reading this thread and some of the concerns shown I can understand what you. I wasn't aware (although I read it before in this thread it seems, didn't remember it) that CA game launches were plagued with bugs and/or with risk of the actual game play being quite annoying or opposite to what people would expect.
If the quality of the game itself is seen as a risk not worth taking until unbiased opinions are out, then I understand your point...but from someone not used to CA, it seemed like a good deal to me :s

CA seriously went downhill after Shogun II. All their titles after Shogun II were bugged and un-optimized as hell when launched and required several length patches to fix them.
Though I don't think it is 100% entirely CA's fault....they are manipulated by their puppet master (SEGA) to cut contents (and put them into multiple DLCs), skip extensive beta tests and bug fixes in order to save money, and spend more $$ on advertisement than on actually improving their games.
This disgusting trend is plaguing every game out there right now. Personally I don't mind paying $60 - 70$ (adjusted for inflation) for a good, wholesome, bug-free game packed with juicy features and contents. But no single modern title is worth that much right now (except maybe Witcher 3).

I am just getting more and more hyped for this game. Playing warhammer end times: vermintide atm and it has got me even more excited about this game. Some questions though. 1) From what I've seen a lot of the armybuilding in the TT involves augmenting your units, is this something that has been done in total war games before and do we know if they have said anything about it? 2) Do dwarves have any sort of cavalry in the lore? To me dwarves seem quite strong defensively, especially if they are resistant to magic like in the lore, but I haven't seen any mention of them having cavalry. 3) They have said that they don't want magic to be too heavy of an influence on the battles, but arent there races that rely quite heavily on it? Like dark elves for example.
edit: see now in a CA video that dwarves have no cav options, but they are billing gyrocopters as the goto option if you want something 'cav-like'.

Not sure how I feel about this pre-order business. I wan't to play and think it will be quite fun once it is ironed out but at the same time I don't want to support this bullshit business practice of Day1 DLC. Sega and CA clearly working for the Chaos Gods.
edit: Im sure this has already been discussed to death but I mean, they announce day 1 dlc when the game is still 6 months out, like what the hell. Makes me quite angry :@.

Heh, i have no problem with explaining how i feel about Chaos being a day one DLC. I feel like CA and Sega should go and fuck themself.

Yeah pretty much. I mean the content was obviously intended to be there, they just pull it out to try and get people to preorder. Pretty damn lame. I imagine its SEGA pushing that decision but still. The only reason I am not completely flipping out is because it is kind of 'free', but then if I am going to preorder for that I do feel like this isn't a 'legitimate' preorder incentive because the chaos faction should be in the game anyways, so they are basically conning people into preordering to get content that should be in the game, instead of some sort of actual bonus.
The state of publishing these days~~~~

Do total war games usually have a large multiplayer player base or do people just play for the single player campaign map? I'm looking forward to multiplayer battles with the different armies just as much as playing the campaign map but I don't know how big the player base is. Anyone who has played some of the other total war games have an idea?

I didn't have any problem in Shogun 2 a month or two after release. I have not played MP Total War other than that though, so maybe somebody else can answer it better.

I feel like it depends on the title/scenario (Rome for example had a bigger community than Empire) but generally speaking the TW games have a good amount of players who are also (more or less) frequently using the multiplayer. So if you're looking for some action you'll find it. Just don't expect a playerpool consisting of thousands of different players. That beeing said, you should take into account that this is a Warhammer game which could mean that the playerbase is smaller than usual, since there are probably more people out there who enjoy historic battles/scenarios rather than fictional ones.

CA has been trash past Rome Total War I. Everything past that has been pretty awful for the most part.

If you are known for buggy releases, then the first thing your marketing will tell you. Cut out the second most loved part about the game and offer it for free if people preorder it. So we actually have enough money to unbug the game a few month post release. And maybe if we are lucky and despite being a buggy mess, this game will go viral and we get some extra money !
Either way done like this its a vicious circle where releases get buggier and buggier, because they have to fix the stuff on the side, while working on DLC and new games, whos schedule won't be delayed. As long as marketing can force preorders and do it like this, every franchise managed like this will turn into the Batman Arkham series.
But you have to check fo exceptions. For example if a game got delayed then it is highly likely, that the art team was bored and produced some extra content, so they don't get payed for doing nothing. Or well in Blizzards case, they have their art teams make stuff for other games, so they can draw people into playing every Blizzard game.
Also no Dwarfs no Sale !

Medieval 2 was a pretty good game though, played a bunch of hours on it.

Comrade!
I cannot agree more. The first Rome was the high point of the series and its very sadly been going downhill since then.
I was super excited for Rome 2 and then it turned out to be...eh...I'm not sure how to phrase it really. "Disappointing" is probably the mildest word I can think of. I don't think it was as bad as some people went on, but it was definitely a let down.
As for this one: as I keep hammering home everywhere I post...this game has four factions at launch. FOUR. People pointing back to "oh they did this with Rome 2" are ignoring that Rome 2 actually came with twice the number that this comes with so at least there was more choice in the base game.
The whole DLC Preorder thing is extremely shady and is putting me off getting it at launch despite the fact I've been playing these games since Medieval: Total War over a decade ago now.
