Really got into rising thunder, super fun

my first 2d traditional fighter (im a melee background lol)

Made it to gold3 with edge, with the rate im winning will prob make it to diamond soon?

I've been trying out some Baldley and Ryu. Basic, simple and pretty fun game imo. It's hilarious though that even in this game people are grinding out combos that they'll hit once in a blue moon rather than trying to play any kind of neutral game.

For some reason this simplified control scheme really messes with my mind. I keep trying to break throws with 2 buttons etc, or want to punish something with super only accidentally press the throw button instead of the super button lol :D

I always have trouble with muscle memory messing me up when I go between fighting games so I stopped playing on my stick and started using the keyboard for rising thunder. I even switched hands, doing directions on the numberpad. On my stick I was doing the same thing with throws or hitting special3 when I wanted to sweep, etc. My mistakes went way down once I switched.

Really wish there were lobbies to match with few people I have good games with. My vlad has stagnated at diamond 1, I mostly seesaw between completely wrecking people and getting completely wrecked.
It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press this button.

Dauntless has a weird falling hitbox
I've noticed two combos so far that seem Dauntless only.

Dauntless on Dauntless:
Forward Throw jumpcancel (late) air.H -> (land) M -> H -> combo

Talos on Dauntless:
S2 dashcancel f.H -> combo

I'm getting more and more annoyed that I don't have my opponents cooldowns and meter. Complete information is a crucial part of fighting games imo and pretty much the only genre that actually has it. Not having that will most likely kill this game for me.

I was wondering about that myself. It's not like they can keep it that way if they ever plan to have offline matches, and it's hard to imagine they'd make a fighting game and not offer local versus. And they show opponent's super meter so it's not like it's all hidden.

I guess I could learn all the cooldowns and then check the time and count like I used to do when I played ut2k4 so cooldowns aren't that problematic. The hidden meter on other hand is a big fucking problem for me. Imagine playing footsies against E. Ryu without knowing if he has 2 bars or not.

Anyone else find it really fucking cheesey that someone can just do a 50-60% combo on you the moment they land one hit via pressing like 3 buttons. The simplified controls make it feel bullshit wheras in real fighters youre just impressed they managed to pull off such a sick series of inputs. Well, i find it cheesey at least.

They've designed it so everyone can pull off those combos because they want it to be about not getting hit in the first place. I'm fine with it. If you want harder execution, Street Fighter exists.

It doesn't really bother me to be honest. This game is more about reads and recognizing opportunities to punish and about neutral game. I still like and play games like street fighter and guilty gear but I definitely enjoy playing this.

I like that combos are easy and damaging. Forces me to learn to get better rather than relying on my opponent to be bad. Though it does make me sad when someone ends a combo suboptimally.

proof that those uhh.. melee FG fundamentals are kicking in.. or something i guess lol

seriously though this is the perfect 2d fighter for me. Since im a melee player im awful with stick execution and in general im one of the less technical players. Being able to jump in and use my brain from the start is the best

ahhhh I want to play some more. I got up to gold over the weekend but my internet hasnt been cooperating all week

Did test out revolving hook instead of vandal as dauntless some. The damage increase in BnBs is cool, it offers a different mixup opportunity with baiting stuff than the usual vandal feint -> throw, but I do kinda like the ability to vandal feint away from bad jump in situations etc. cant wait to play more once I get my computer issues resolved!!

Do you ever start losing more than you win in ranked at a certain point? Cause I wasn't really paying attention but im pretty sure with even a 50% win rate youd get at least to diamond eventually.
