Hyped for AoA. Fell in love with Wargame though I still like macro RTS games better so AoA is right up my alley.

You didn't like C&C Generals?
Not really. Got bored by it. Doesn't hook the imagination.
SC2 had same dev, maybe that's why I'm so desperate for a new rts

Both have futuristic units and unreal weapons (using a Nuke in small battles is already unreal). Ok, Generals was more modern than earlier C&C games, but not more than Red Alert games that also mixed realistic with fantastic units.

has replay functionality been added to Grey Goo yet? GR.Org postponed a cash prize tournament until replay functionality is added due to the difficulty in broadcasting games.
24 hour peak of 157 players. http://steamcharts.com/app/290790#48h
ouch.

T_T I really wish this game would of done better, AoA does look kinda neat, interested in trying it, but I learned my lesson from paying for overpriced, over hyped games, will wait to find out for sure.

don't feel bad man, everyone has to learn this lesson.
if u've been a fan of any EA franchise its a lesson u learn 10,000 times over.
Blizzard takes care of its customers better than any one else with only Valve coming close.
Just because Blizzard is so good and honest don't assume other companies are also this way. Blizzard is the exception, not the rule.

I would argue that this is the old Blizzard you speak of, in terms of customer service and support for ESPORTS / what the fans want, I think Valve has Blizzard beat at a 10 to 1 ratio.

I can't say that I haven't had buyer's remorse for SC2, truth be told.
|
truth be told, RTS studios are dropping like flies. so we get half baked indy efforts like Grey Goo with no replays, observer mode, beta, or player base.
if you are dissatisfied with Blizzard then you should not have purchased Heart of the Swarm and you should not buy Legacy of the Void.
we are very lucky Blizzard does anything at all to support the RTS genre. we'll see how well Grey Goo is supported 5 years from now.
check out the support level for all RTS games released around july 2010. Red Alert 3, C&C4 , Swords and Soldiers ,...?
how is the support for them ? it ain't even close.
even CoH2 released a couple of years ago has sad levels of support for a game priced higher than SC2.
if Valve wants to make an subscription based MMO or an RTS game then we can do a head-to-head comparison.
regarding WoW...you don't manage to hold onto 5+ million subscribers for 10+ years in a game with mediocre at best graphics UNLESS the game play is great.
if u think WoW is poorly supported... you are living in a fantasy world.
back to Grey Goo's support level though. Its March 21. Any Date for the replay functionality so that GR.Org can continue with their GG tournament ? .. or will this community tourney die along with the player base?

No point holding a tournament that will not interest anyone

I bought WoL. Disappointed me enough not to buy HotS, and safe to say LoV isn't on my wish list. I bought this game out of respect for the old C&C franchise (it would be nice if C&C4 never happened). It plays well but damn, they are really persistent about not dropping the price, to their own detriment. Frankly, I'm not sure what miracle they are waiting for.
RTS is unfortunately a forgotten genre. SC2, the "shining star" of RTS, is on a slow but certain death spiral, and every other game is doing much worse. It's a real shame because RTS are fun to play if they're done well.

Etherium seems to have a really interesting SP and AoA interesting MP. LoV comes out later this year anyways

the response to all the complaining about anything newly made has been to just create graphical upgrades to old games and release that.
Homeworld HD, AoE3, Rise of Nations etc.
but, none of those has really caught on either.
i think the latest round of RTS games is just fine. i think the RTS genre is in the same place the dot-eating-maze-game genre was in 1990. it does not matter how good or bad the games are ... everyone has moved on.
so sure.. MouseTrap, Pacman Junior, Lock'n'Chase are all fine dot-eating-maze-games. The original Pacman really is a bore because of how predictable the ghost movement is. Learn 1 pattern.. game solved. no one can say Pacman is better than any of the games i listed. None of them made 1/1000 the cash Pacman did even though they aer better games.
Same thing is going on with the RTS genre.. it doesn't matter how good or bad the games are... no company will ever see the kind of ROI that occurred from 1995 to 2003.
|
Don't worry, LOTV will be the shining star hitting us soon.
|
new IPs are really disliked in all genres, its really weird and sucks. Last year was games being buggy graphic updates of games from the year earlier. And people seem to want this.
And every game is in a Death spiral. It just depends on the game how long the death motion takes.
RTS genre just evolved. The evolutions were just exiled because they weren't hardcore enough x3. Either way Space genre is coming back for whatever reason, so even if old RTS style games will be gone for a while they will come back. First Blizzard would have to abandon the rts genre though and why should they, Blizzard community likes Blizzard games unimportant of genre. Always awesome CGs and fluid gameplay.

Valve has the shittiest customer support of any company I've ever had to deal with. 6 days to answer tickets, no phone support. They're completely awful. And Keep in mind, Blizzards always supported their games esports its not like "Old Blizzard" put more resources into esports as opposed to "New Blizzard", Valve went 10 years without even giving a single dollar to esports.

That's certainly the problem a modern RTS can be good, it can be great, but the genre just isn't enticing enough to have longevity. It's like those average console mages that have a mutliplayer mode. You beat the campaign, play the multiplayer for a few weekends, and then you're done. It's just hard to develop a community around it anymore.

u can get that "giant army i just built" fighting another guy's giant army that he just built... from playing stuff like Boom Beach and Clash of Clans.

What does [PTB] mean exactly in these notes? Are these changes not going through to the live but only to the PTB version of the game?
