Just until you are familiar always open refinery->factory->refinery and don't stop pumping out units. Only cheese so far I seen is on small maps Goo players might rush your base with their first Mother Goo, but Eternal Dalek explains how to beat that in one of the previous posts.

Is there really a shortage of players?
|
On January 26 2015 20:57 GGzerG wrote: Is there really a shortage of players? hard to say, right now there is a soft region lock, which means you have to go stream -> change your download server and you will be able to play in that server. (except korea) But it does take a while to get a game going, 1v1 is fine but 2v2 is almost as long as a 4v4 in SEA server for sc2 (LONG) and I have been trying out the US and EU server, same thing

The devs wrote on their forums that there is a bug with the region lock and it will be fixed soon.

is there a chart where I can see what unit counters what?

There is an ingame encyclopedia where you can see the counters similar to sc2. it is in the main menu.

noob question: which is the best race to get into 1v1?
|
Depends on how you want to play. This is only me but it seems like this Humans -> Protoss Beta -> Terran Goo -> Zerg
The Goo are strong but very unique and you have to get used to how to play with them. I would try every race in unranked games and decide for yourself.

is thera a mmr based matchmaking system in place? for ranked and unranked?

AFAIK there is only a ranked system, you could play custom games though.

All I have seen and read from this game: It's simpler than sc2, and easy to play. Basicly all units are the same, no interesting features on the units.

That is wrong, but expected with sc elitists on TL anyway.

have you even played the game²

C&C games play differently from Blizzard games, and it's not really a good idea to compare them in the same way you would, say, Brood War and WC3. They have a completely different feel when you play them.
After more play, I would say this much: saying Beta and Human play the same is like saying Terran and Protoss play the same. At first glance it seems true, but play a little more and you'll see that while their units do similar things, their playstyle differences are significant.

Not untrue but it misrepresents the game. I've only played a couple of hours, but it seems to me where SC2 places emphasis on unit composition and control, this game is much more about army movement and decision making. Easy to get caught out of position, and terrain advantages can facilitate ridiculously cost effective trades. Also the tech upgrades in this game change unit behaviour rather than just outright making them stronger, which is where all the juicy complexity and strategizing comes in. This game is easier to play than SC2, but it also requires and rewards a slightly different skillset. That's my impression.
A lot of people seem to wanna know what the game feels like, and the best analogy I can think of is Emperor: Battle for Dune. If you liked the feel of that game I think you will like this one. I'm really happy with it.

Personally I don't believe this will be my next SC2 but after playing so much starcraft, I just welcome a change of pace. And this game is fantastic for exactly that. If you don't mind the high pricetag then I would say go for it!

I'd try it but not even a demo. Just close your eyes and hope your $50 doesn't go to waste.
