Lots of broke people also spend money on fancy clothes or other cosmetic real life things in order to exude that status, often in an inherently counter-productive way. Was an interesting day when I stopped to think about why I see so many beemers and mercs parked in front of crappy old apartment buildings.

DOTA 2 is best obviously but Smite's model is also reasonable. The fact that they haven't already announced this game as f2p makes me think it's skewing towards an upfront cost. <$30 and it's looking good to me. If they make you pay then lock any characters behind a pay/grind wall however, well that'd be a big joke, especially because you know there'd be a small contingent of fans who'd defend that model as fair and "great value" or whatever.

Kids have paypal, kids play Dota/Lol/Hots, kids play CS, kids have the attention span of a goldfish. Lets combine that into a Game. Where you won't have a skilll based competion because hit-Detection is client-sided. And all frustration can be solved by spending more real money. Yeah.

IMO it looks to do the genre the same thing LoL did to the MOBA genre.. personally, I think this game is going to be HUGE! It has the perfect balance of casual/hardcore. It has a lot of Blizzard personality, which imo a lot of people love about Blizzard titles. I dont understand what the whole 2nd half of this shitpost is even trying to say... the game is pay to win somehow if it sells skins or costs money to unlock champs? Neither of those things are pay to win. Anyways, am pretty sure it will follow the HotS pricing scheme... free to play, with free champs on weekly rotation.. play to unlock, or pay to unlock faster, skins will sell for cash, because everyone likes the idea of being a unique butterfly. Game looks like great fun, and improves on the Tf2 concept in a lot of ways IMO... IDK i felt like this title is Blizzards first return to form since WC3.

IMO it looks to do the genre the same thing LoL did to the MOBA genre.. I don't like that comparison. What LOL did was to to create a platform + business model to a new genre and reduce the learning barrier. The game it self in 2009-2010 was, however, extremely flawed. Eventually the game has been proved significantly, but it's still has a tons of poor designs in it (the whole item system and the passive state in competitive play). LOL was also clearly inspired by the grinding part of MMORGS (which were very popular back then), but the mastery + level + rune system is just dumb. This is an example of a poor way of learning from other games. What Overwatch does is the opposite. It is not attempting to be succesful just by creating a good platform at release. Instead, the focus is on making the best type of game possible and take the good parts from all different genres. Anyways, am pretty sure it will follow the HotS pricing scheme... free to play, with free champs on weekly rotation.. play to unlock, or pay to unlock faster, skins will sell for cash, because everyone likes the idea of being a unique butterfly. Already been discussed and it doens't make sense for how Overwatch is structured. More relevant, Blizzard already said previously said it won't be the case.

You give Activ-Blizz too much credit. In terms of graphic, audio and cinematic they are the absolute #1 top dog but when it comes to game balancing and overall decision-making.....they don't make too much sense sometimes.

I'm actually much happier with an upfront cost with cosmetic microtransactions. Part of the reason I don't want to play HotS is because I don't want to grind or spend an unreasonable amount of time/money just to be at gameplay parity. That's ridiculous to me. I want to be able to use any character front the get-go. That would be best case scenario. I think you need an upfront cost to deter cheaters in an FPS game. Plus I think I said this before, but denying options in a game where you can swap heroes is completely pay to win. Not even debatable.
