LFR is really just so everyone, even people who are not in a raiding group and are not interested in raiding or dont have time to raid at all, can see the "lore-content". note that this does not mean "content", because the higher difficulties, especially mythic, make the fights so much more different that learning the encounter is the content. They were introduced with the deathwing raid tier in cata iirc. Currently they drop 640, which is just above hc 5mans, on par with crafted stage1 items and way below normal mode drops (655), so they really arent a requirement to do.
Also, in mop they served the purpose to make aforementioned players be able to acquire the legendary item, while still retaining a bit of a hurdle to it, so that its not a freeloot, and it will be the same in this exp.

LFR loot is 640 and heroic 5man is 630, so it's a boost but it's not mandatory. I wont be running it even though i could get a couple of upgrades from it still.

Normal raids are tuned for 630 and drop 655 (with warforged or socketed, which makes them 661, or socket often makes them better than 661 on some pieces)
Without doing raids or buying a single BOE i was 640 before stepping into normal mode. I was bad, slow and lazy at gearing compared to others, some of the people who did a lot of challenge modes and had a lot of gold were 655
If you just spam heroics, nothing more, and get the free 680 ring donated to you, it's not that hard to get 636 or socketed 630 in every slot, plus the 680 ring so your DPS would be ~10% higher than the raid expects from you. First entry to the raid did have like three weeks warning to gear up, and that's assuming you never get any loot from the garrison, never do challenge modes, never buy a bind on equip item or crafted item etc~

Got to 6/7 HC & last boss in normal down tonight.. Now to work on him on HC. Normal was pretty rough, so I imagine HC will be painful!

Apparently Simulationcraft is up to date for all changes now, and i'm simming ~7% higher single target dps even with my mastery gear for 2h frost over unholy with perfect play

Ahh that would make sense then Bo1b, wondered wtf Blood Legion were doing lol.
Ascention have the best gear in the world i think in average item level so they seem like "contenders" at least this early on.
Been 3 hours and 2 bosses down though, seems pretty challenging. Wonder how long it is before a guild will call the mythic progress then jump in and quickly farm heroic gear and then go back to it with bit more gear.

Wow did they? I did not follow world first race back in those days. Damn. But yeah i think China play more WoW than Korea right? Or that is what i believe. I follow a guild on Twitch that streams progress whilst im at work they play on Taiwan and are not that bad.

The Yog0 story is funny actually. The race was well over. Yog1 was dead for some time even I think.
The belief was that Yog0 was impossible. The numbers were not there. it couldn't be done. And then a Chinese guild called Stars actually went and did it.
Rest of the top guilds in US/EU did it the very next reset once the strategy used was made public.
