I like (most of) the new graphics and no more us east/west and the returning playerbase has made find RT games of all sizes very easy. Ladder would be nice but if you look at this first patch as the preseason many other competitive have it's not that dramatic.
I appreciate that others could be having technical issues that don't apply to me but given the frivolous and often false nature of a lot of the complaints (very tired of hearing about how theres no matchmaking) it's hard not to see the collective hate boner the community has here as an emotional response to something they used for a long time being changed rather than a sober analysis of a game they supposedly want to see succeed and grow. The frenzied anticipation with the future of the game (and yes, reforged is the future of wc3) they supposedly love having the lowest possible score on metacritic is pretty gross in particular. There's no way this game is a 0.
Reforged as a product is definitely on the path to being a modern, quality product that will draw in new players and breathe life into this great game that will make it last another decade. Currently it's the "community" that's killing it, not blizzard (imperfect as they are). Grubbys recent take on the drama was a good one and I recommend that the people who claim to love this game listen to it and think about the longer term consequences of throwing their toys out of the cot. I’m rather torn on this issue. I had my time with Warcraft 3 back in the day, it was only really with SC2 that I got even semi-competent at RTS and started playing a lot of 1v1. Made a lot of friends in the local scene and many of us fancied a change from SC2 as our RTS fix. It was only with Reforged’s announcement that many of us decided to give WC3 a proper shot. While I was personally fine playing the original, others who were new were waiting to play the reimagining. From what I can tell from Grubby’s Twitch chat quite a few he’d converted to be interested were waiting for Reforged to try it out. My sole excitement came from the possibility of new players coming in, a more active ladder that’s easier to access. I played the campaign in the original pretty recently and had a good time. For others who have got it and played through the campaign for the first time that I know they’ve largely found it fine. 0 is ridiculous and hyperbolic and will kill a whole bunch of the potential. Not just from WC3 fans either but that whole cottage industry that makes a living from complaining (often rightly in fairness) about the practices of the gaming industry are sticking the boot in as well. On the other hand I do feel this is an industry-wide problem and it’s especially a shame it’s occurred to one of my favourite games. As much as I’d like to allow my love for the game shine through, really at some stage as a consumer one has to just stop buying glorified betas being released as full products. 0 is not THAT hyperbolic..
seeing how much did they fuck up I think 1/10 is absolutely deserved. Especially that they have not only screwed up the "Reforged" version, but the 18 year old classic too.. I mean..
Fuck.

Initially I was hoping War3 R gets the same graphics as StarCraft R (same style but more detailed). In this case it would be great to buy the game.
But lots of doubts has risen during beta stage, color design, texture design, catoonish look (overlay + UI). It's not even half way complete product.
+ Show Spoiler +
Aesthetic lost. More detailed 3d model does not mean it looks cooler. War3 R lost it's signature view, when it was pleasent to watch the game for it's beautiful colors, great contrast and easy-to-distinguish models.
It is almost a miracle how they ruined the whole idea :D

Wait, is that bladestorm/whirlwind from Orc Blademaster? It looks like a low-effort lawnmower blade spinning... holy shit I didn't realise it was THAT bad...

Yeah Cyclone was what I had in mind when I said "mostly".
I stand by it though. For the most part I think it looks fantastic.

Those do look bloody awful.
For the most part I’m OK with the models though, it’s the animations where they seem a bit lacking.

some of them look.. well.. okayish, but most of them look horrible and way overdetailed for a competitive 1v1 RTS game..
the animations are just awful. Colours are all messed up.. even the unit sizes and unit death sounds are screwed up..
I mean HOLY FUCK that wasnt really that hard to get it right.. IT REALLY WASNT
Man.. this has to be the worst remaster I have ever seen. They've literally destroyed this game.. 18 years of fun.. My God.

How is the ladder functionality and everything else working aside from unit animations and the models not being perfect yet? I can care less about that if the game play is good

I don't see how anyone could think the reforged version looks better... at least judging by those pictures.

Reforged looks significantly better. It may not be the greatest thing by current standards, but it definitely looks better than the original graphics. If nothing else, details are more defined. Many models used to just look like blobs, whereas you can see the detail in them now.
Not that it excuses all of the other problems with the game, but yes the graphics do look better.

Graphic Designer: Perspective 101. I'll skip this one, sounds basic and boring.

Environment artists should know so much better than this. No shadows, but also no baked in lighting even? There is no contrast in their updated textures it looks AWFUL.
I'm pretty sure something went wrong with their shadows settings, and they just didnt fix it before launch, because no mildly competent game developer would do the things that are seen in that picture, lol.
