Melee confirmed for 300 APM
Standard was 200-300 half a decade ago. It spikes up in certain situations with certain characters.

I wish Sc2 had something as epic Evo or Dota's intentional. One big event that everything fed into once a year building up the hype. It should be WCS. But it so isn't... Maybe blizzcon but I have little faith in blizzard after last years finals No region locking will yield much better finals this year, for all of the complaining and drama regarding what it does or doesn't do for the local scenes it will definitely benefit the global finals by producing a much more competitive tournament. Count on it. I've got my ticket already, it's 4 months away and I cannot wait.

The one that was essentially the unveiling of the game. uhh 2million concurrent is a little exaggerated, don't you think? I don't remember JoinDota ever releasing a number anyway according to valve TI2 had 567k http://blog.dota2.com/2012/09/the-2012-international/ I remember seeing the number myself in a player. It was the first Dota 2 tournament, the official unveiling of the game and had a massive prize pool. Are you talking about TI1? Iirc the opening rounds did have 1.5 million+ watching. The opening rounds definitely did not have 1.5 million concurrent watching.

That l-cancel after the shine-bair is incorrect, it autocancels at that height... but yeah melee is pretty difficult especially when you get to the more difficult stuff that's actually useful(stuff done in that video isn't exactly viable, I'm pretty certain you cannot even combo after the platform waveshineland)

I grew up in the Smash scene ever since it broke out and played professionally until Brawl came out and temporarily killed the Melee community. So good to see it still retain its competitive popularity. Sounds like League of Legends :O Honestly, it's more comparable to a Shootmania (or something) player looking at the guys surrounding him, thinking his game is much bigger than it is, and claiming that they should be spoken of in the same breath as Quake without knowing the history of Quake. Even with the game being as old as it is, it's competitive history is tiny compared to the 'the traditional fighting game community'. It's your classic strong headed young guy trying to get respect from the old guard and flailing about when they don't want to freely give it. Smash Bros has the advantage of having the young youtube generation behind it though. Read into that however you will. You are just a hater. And it appears you are one of those young youtube generation. My post was not an attack on the game. It was an attempt at a more realistic view of the situtation. The whole world isn't out to get you or your game. Melee was released 2001. Youtube was released in 2005. Consider your replies carefully. Hmm? Generations are a period of time based on culture events. Time much bigger than the 4 years. Would you prefer I use the term Generation Z instead? It's the same thing really.

People that don't play both and haven't been a part of both communities can't really appreciate that. In a lot of ways, Fighting Games were the ORIGINAL e-sport. I love Starcraft and it's my favorite game for sure, but I'll be damned if I don't respect my fighter roots.

Much faster pace, easier to follow hence more tension is built throughout the games. BTW it's a shame that Quake is pretty much dead in terms of viewership.
