I grew up in the Smash scene ever since it broke out and played professionally until Brawl came out and temporarily killed the Melee community. So good to see it still retain its competitive popularity.

Sounds like League of Legends :O

Honestly, it's more comparable to a Shootmania (or something) player looking at the guys surrounding him, thinking his game is much bigger than it is, and claiming that they should be spoken of in the same breath as Quake without knowing the history of Quake.

Even with the game being as old as it is, it's competitive history is tiny compared to the 'the traditional fighting game community'. It's your classic strong headed young guy trying to get respect from the old guard and flailing about when they don't want to freely give it.

Smash Bros has the advantage of having the young youtube generation behind it though. Read into that however you will.

You are just a hater.

And it appears you are one of those young youtube generation. My post was not an attack on the game. It was an attempt at a more realistic view of the situtation. The whole world isn't out to get you or your game.

Youtube generation? What are you even talking about? I've been playing ssbm since the start and I have not touched brawl. Your "realistic" view at the situation is just you hating on the game and the community.

How many viewers did TI2 for dota2 get?

500k I think with chinese viewers

Didn't the first Dota 2 The Defense have like 2 million concurrent viewers? The one that was essentially the unveiling of the game.

uhh 2million concurrent is a little exaggerated, don't you think? I don't remember JoinDota ever releasing a number anyway

according to valve TI2 had 567k

http://blog.dota2.com/2012/09/the-2012-international/

I remember seeing the number myself in a player. It was the first Dota 2 tournament, the official unveiling of the game and had a massive prize pool.

Are you talking about TI1? Iirc the opening rounds did have 1.5 million+ watching.

Yes it must've been TI then. I remember looking at the number in disbelief and wondering if it'll ever be broken.

why cant a laid back SC2 event get this many views? like, if dreamhack didnt run their event at such terrible hours, they'd probably get the same or more, right?

I wish Sc2 had something like Evo or Dota's intentional. One big event that everything fed into once a year building up the hype.

It should be WCS. But it so isn't...

I wish SC2 had interesting personalities : (.

I am sure if sc2 had only 1 huge tournament a year with every top player is playing we would see some epic numbers.Sc2 tournaments are too over saturated for viewers.
Think like this.IF you had to see mvp play one time a year you would %100 watch it.But nowadays you can see top players playing against eachother too often which kills the hype.

Melee was released 2001.

Youtube was released in 2005.
