Did they fuck up and give a release date for Xbox uno?
I just checked a few retailer websites and it seems the date was already released. Also it's coming for ps3 and 360 so it may be like the WiiU where they are releasing different dates.
i really dont see people bitching about having features seriously, this will boil down to who has the better games. And thats more on game studios than microsoft or sony. Its a fucking computer with restricted features and some annoying drm to hurt the used games market, but none of that matters if it has some baller ass games on it that i want to play.
I really don't like this trend of digital-only and "always need to be connected." Diablo 3 had this marketing system and, after this, pretty much everything else is going to follow suit. I can kind of see how this is justified on PC, but I really don't see how piracy (which imho is the ONLY way to justify this, and badly at that) been a concern for Xbox/console? You need to get it modded first and have to purchase physical copies of the pirated games afaik. All this online bullshit and inconvenience for that tiny-ass demographic that pirates console games?
I think the console equivalent is used games. Plus they just want greater insight into what you're doing so they can craft advertising and stuff for it.

Piracy is always used to justify companies looking to exert more control over their products for data mining and advertising purposes. Until the X1 is hacked every single thing it's used for will be tracked and data mined by MS. If you start using it to watch TV, you can bet your ass MS will be collecting what shows you are watching and your demographic. All the games you play they will know for how long you played and how many you have purchased. Bought a new game? MS will immediately know about it because you have to let them activate it first. Playing it from home? They'll know about it. Playing it at a friend's house? They'll know about it. Even the "used games" will be tracked since the unique codes from each game will go from one account to another. I'm not saying this is malicious in anyway but, I definitely don't like any of it.
I'm just glad I'm old enough where I have less and less time to game and don't have to put up with this bullshit.
The digital only is incredibly irritating to the point where I might not even buy it. The only time I really ever buy games on my 360 is used because fucking christ 60 dollars for a game I don't want that BADLY is just insane. If the game is extremely good I'll spend 60 on it (Like Tomb Raider for instance...) but that just doesn't happen that often. I'm not even quite sure why I should be using the X1 over a PC...the 360 I understand in certain circumstances but not the X1.
As an engineering student, I will tell you, 99% of software engineers have no fucking idea about people want. They are taught, "Simplicity, usability, consistency, guiding users, making use of details, etc" is important, focus on this. They have no idea how to get this done. Seriously, the people who make these things are dumb, but have no idea how people perceive these things, because they just look at statistics and research, which OFTEN does not line up with the truth.
This doesn't matter to me though, more and more games are being created for the PC, and Windows 7 as an Operating system I believe is as top notch as it will get for the next few years, with unparalleled freedom etc. So let console gaming die, and just start selling more joysticks for the computer and whatnot (Even though the mouse keyboard combo is still unrivalled). Hell, the price of these consoles, and the upcoming Haswell Intel PC's with integrated graphics will be very similar in-game performance, but it'll do everything else a million times better.
Death to console gaming (: I'll still likely pick up a PS4 however since I have money to spare if Gran Turismo 7 ends up being a PS4 exclusive, but it seems like them too, are expand their horizons.

It's not something you generally learn in school, because you usually need a cross-functional team to do proper VoC and needs gathering/analysis. Marketing people usually have a head start but they can't do it well without engineers involved, since the engineers are basically their customers.
Some software companies do it very well, but MS is usually not in that group.
How will the xbox even compete price-wise with all these features? Can't be anywhere near the price of PS4/WiiU. The way I see it, Xbox is going to be worst off. PS4 is looking a lot better, and Nintendo is Nintendo (will get better with its big releases), and I just don't see a place for the xbox. Unless it proves me wrong and it's like 300-400$. And even after that, it'll still be hard. The PS4 has simplicity and (based on current info) better hardware. The WiiU has backwards compatibility, the controller and games already by the time new consoles come out.
Actually, with how popular Steam is and games like LoL, I can see PC taking over large parts of the market in the future. Not sure if Micro will have a leg to stand on, but Nin and Sony might pass on their exclusives. All in all, not looking great for Xbox.

For people who are too stupid or lazy to hit an extra button on their tv remote. Also to let Microsoft know all about your TV viewing habits so they can sell you stuff better.

No. It is for people in my demographic (21-30 predominantly males) that don't have a cable subscription. Microsoft is moving into the television market by adding this feature and by making a syndicated Halo series.

If you don't have a cable subscription you have no cable box and associated cables. You can't use any of their TV stuff they were promoting hardcore. It's not for your demographic either. I'm 22yr btw and have a cable subscription, I like watching live TV and the news.
call me oldfashioned, but I use consoles to play video games. I'm not interested in media center enternainment fluff'n'stuff social feature shenanigans, I don't even watch TV. There might be a market in the US for these features, which makes their design decisions understandable from a marketing point of view, but for me as an almost thirty years old gamer, they're not very appealing.
The name of the thing is just a complete failure, what were they thinking? While xbox 720 may not have been the best solution (as others have already said there's that 720p problem), but why in the world would you name the third incarnation of a console "one"? is it that reboot stuff (like in star trek, tomb raider and everywhere else)? or is it supposed to mean something like "all you've ever wanted is now in ONE console"? Hell, even "Triple XBox" would have been better. (they could have made spots with vin diesel, how awesome would that have been?)

its the same deal with the wii U, they wanted the name to be meaningful (one as in every function in one box), but imo its a fail name, just look at the wii U, the general public think its a addition to the original wii and not an entirely new console.
