I can't remember if they did but Phil Harrison mentioned this when asked about it (I'm not linking Kotaku, you can Google it if you want to verify the source): Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks? Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours. Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day. Harrison: Correct. Now there's not much known about what exactly will happen if you don't hook up your Xbox to the internet but that's pretty much confirmation that it'll do something to keep you online. Unless Kotaku is making shit up/embellishing Harrison's words which is definitely possible considering their past track record.

According to Kotaku, games will "suspend" after three minutes if the machine is not connected to the internet. VGLeaks reports the opposite "A New Generation Revealed" indeed... One of the few perks to having a console, for me at least, was that I could play it whenever our internet went out. Whose bright idea was this.

Actually, they've just made it pretty obvious. Do they have the money to continue expanding this and make improvements over the lifetime of their next console? To me it seems like a venture that they'll have to make work to preserve their console-gaming brand/experience. So far, Playstation takes the cake. Until XboxONE has their side of the field for actual game and development, i'm pretty sold not not purchasing my own Xbox for entertainment. actually i want to comment on this looking back at 360/ps3. they get alot of bad rap for ruining gaming and in some ways that is true, but i wont sit here and tell you that i didnt get value out of these consoles. there were enough 'classic' console type games to keep them interesting, and for me xbla was the best thing ever. near the end is when microsoft started pushing this whole media hub thing with 360 and was about the time that things got really bad in terms of games. its a shame microsoft has fully gone in the direction of this media hub and not focusing on games like they did originally. i have high hopes for ps4 for games because it should be significantly easier to develop for.

Wii U is the only one I have hope for if it get's good games. On the other hand, Nintendo decided to go crazy and screw everyone making videos of their products over recently, so they get lashback as well, besides that the Wii U isn't doing great either. Is the next videogame crash soon to come? At least when it comes to consoles. PC gaming is full of piracy as well, but at least any small developer can take a shot without much hassle.

I have both consoles 360 and PS3 and my time between the two is massive. 98% on 360, rest on PS3 (Blu-Ray movies mainly.) To be honest, I wasn't surprised no one was impressed with the XBox One after PS4 reveal. Because the two systems, more or less provide the same thing at the end of the day. Both systems are Blu-Ray now, both are Next-Gen consoles that are as powerful as the current generation PCs. Both will most likely have the same graphics (if you aren't into the details that is.) There are 2 things that bug me with the One. Backwards Compatibility is missing on the One, and Pre-Owned Games require a fee. The Pre-Owned games will harm the One a lot. A LOT. PS4 already has that up on the One. XBox Live also requires you to pay, while PSN doesn't. With the amount of games on the 360, having no backwards compatibility is quite awkward. To be perfectly honest, I'm a bit scared for the One. If they do not show the games side of the system, blowing people away at E3 especially, PS4 will win this console war. There is no point in throwing the Wii U in that equation when the Wii U is suffering hard already. It will depend I think how much games cost. If the games are still 60 dollars, (which I think won't change...) It won't matter how good PS4 or One are, the gaming industry will continue to suffer until the game prices drop. Both system are Blu-Ray. You pay roughly 20-30 dollars tops for an new Blu-Ray movie. So ask yourself, why are we doubling that for a game with basically the same content? TL;DR: Not Impressed, PS4 has a heads up. One needs E3 to blow people away with games and not focus on media so damn much.

Honestly, I don't hate Ninty too much for that, they can at least still make Lets Plays. I agree that videogames are all really bad right now, I am considering quitting gaming until I get actual kids. I also mourn the loss of saturday morning cartoons... but those aren't coming back. Videogames are going the way of those cartoons.

I wish they'd just STFU with that garbage. You're a console and your job is to play games. When I look at the Xbox brand, it's because I like to play games. Why are they trying to sell me a fancy television accessory that I don't need, when I'm looking for a gaming console? This is MS sticking their head up their ass. Hopefully the actual console is good, and hopefully it gets a good variety of games besides the obligatory CoD/EASports rakes, and hopefully it isn't bogged down with marketing and anti-piracy schemes. But everything in this presentation seems to suggest the opposite.

Yeah not having backwards compatibility is mind-boggling (it was for PS3 slim as well, so stupid). Good point on XBL vs PSN and apparently this new Xbox is online only all the time. Also, PS4 has Japan market and jRPGs pretty much locked down (although no real good ones have come in a very very long time, maybe square or another company can eventually make a decent jRPG again) so who knows what Microsoft will do. At this point, game developers should focus on making PC games IMO. I mean honestly, you can plug pretty much any controller in your PC and the specs are 100x better on PC in general. The consoles are the equivalent of a mid to low budget PC build either way. And hey, every stupid feature they can think to add to your console, your PC can already do it! With how useless my DVD-ROM is these days, I can even use it as a freaking holdster so take that, water cooler/console! I said it before, but I prefer Nintendo's approach. Screw all the BS, stick to games. Do things that don't really fit PC (party-type games with 4 players on 1 console, motion stuff, etc). I mean, they aren't perfect either but in general they stick to just freaking games instead of trying to make everything a social event. At least their premium games aren't released on other consoles/PC so you actually have an incentive to get it over the others. Consoles are primarily meant to be offline videogames in my mind; in Sony and Microsoft's minds, they are meant to be yet another freaking tool to socialize (after your PC, phone, texting, tablet, laptop, etc OH AND FUCKING GOING OUT WHEN I WANT TO SEE PEOPLE). Why have a console you can't use with no internet? I mean, honestly, what the fuck were they thinking? And I'm not big on second hand games, but that's another punch in the guts of fans if I've ever seen one. Still, I can't wait until PC is the absolutely go to place for gaming (inevitable IMO). 3D monitors are easy to get (and stuff like Oculus Rift are developing quickly); you could get accessories for motion-related advancements, etc. Gaming will bloom once this petty console wars era ends, sooner than later one can hope when they all crash and burn! *EDIT : Just realized nintendo 3DS is the only "console" that is even interesting right now. Sad day for console gamers.

Everyone, even in the gaming industry had said, One needs to focus on the gamers, NOT media. Which Microsoft completely ignored when they showed off the One. Showing CoD: Ghost doesn't mean anything. CoD has become a yearly thing, it's no big deal anymore. Hell even PS4 did that, but not to such an extent. E3 will be where it matters. That's when people will decide.

Sony somehow comes out looking the smartest by simply just naming their fucking console in chronological order. They called it the Xbox 360 because they didn't want to look inferior to the PS3, but now they basically threw that away by calling it Xbox One.
