Microsoft shot themselves between the eyes with new xbox when they made it impossible to play used games without paying a fee, they will crumple because of this decision mark my words.

Didn't they say that it wasn't going to be about gameplay? I've seen dozens of people complaining about something that was announced beforehand.

It's a CONSOLE, don't have a press conference and announce your new CONSOLE if isn't going to be about the #1 thing the damn thing is supposed to do and be about. That's like announcing a brand new type of TV and not showing anything at all graphics related and instead talking about how it can connect to everything and showing off how sleek it is. All flash and no substance at all.

they're just following the steam formula, games are registered to an account- microsoft has said that they will make it possible to remove a cdkey from an account for a fee, i believe. that's something that valve doesn't even do.

it's really the first gaming system to be able to integrate live television into the system without the need to change your input, including receiving all kinds of data straight from your tv's cable connection. it's a big deal, but i don't think they should have spent as much time as they did on it.

The only reason Steam etc work is because thanks to third party key sellers the prices of games for PC are incredibly low in a very short amount of time.

Sure, let's go spend a ridiculous amount of money on a console so I don't have to press TWO BUTTONS on a REMOTE CONTROL sitting RIGHT NEXT TO YOU ANYWAY?

except all those features will be fucking useless for everyone in the world except the US
The used game market has always been a sore spot for publishers. This is probably Microsoft trying to push for a digital only future like Steam, where they own the content and userbase by the balls.
The more baffling thing is probably the once every 24 hour online requirement. That's going to punch a hole in a lot of people's sails considering people like servicemen can't really get stable internet easily.

Ps3 is slightly more popular in Europe but it's pretty competetive. Seems like they surrender this now and hunker down on the US.

its not even a matter of popularity, most of xbox 'features' are joint agreements with us companies. hell, canada gets most of the content that the us gets through regular media (movies, music, tv) but cant access any of it through xbox.

Not really...they kept flashing cloud powered, but didnt exactly say if that meant always online....though it might be a hint, or maybe it just means you wont need a hard disk anymore. Dont think they would announce something negative in the first reveal of the console :p . It isnt backwards compatible though.

actually, the hard disk will be needed more than ever. ALL games will have to be installed on the hard disk:
We'll be looking back on this in 5-10 years with some pretty interesting views, but for now i'm wondering about their market strategy and where they plan on taking this. Actually, they've just made it pretty obvious. Do they have the money to continue expanding this and make improvements over the lifetime of their next console? To me it seems like a venture that they'll have to make work to preserve their console-gaming brand/experience.
So far, Playstation takes the cake. Until XboxONE has their side of the field for actual game and development, i'm pretty sold not not purchasing my own Xbox for entertainment.
