The name of the thing is just a complete failure, what were they thinking? While xbox 720 may not have been the best solution (as others have already said there's that 720p problem), but why in the world would you name the third incarnation of a console "one"? is it that reboot stuff (like in star trek, tomb raider and everywhere else)? or is it supposed to mean something like "all you've ever wanted is now in ONE console"? Hell, even "Triple XBox" would have been better. (they could have made spots with vin diesel, how awesome would that have been?)
its the same deal with the wii U, they wanted the name to be meaningful (one as in every function in one box), but imo its a fail name, just look at the wii U, the general public think its a addition to the original wii and not an entirely new console.
yeah, I understand what you're saying. Maybe they should have gone back to the 90s tradition of naming consoles. Super XBox! Mega XBox! Microsoft Uranus!
Have you seen that? (WARNING: a lot of cursing in the video) What do you think about his opinion? Because I saw that yesterday and honestly I have to agree with him in almost every statement.

Totally agree. I have a 360. Not going to buy a one that's for sure.

I can't believe it's not backwards compatible, and I can't believe they still think they can get away with charging to play online. The one thing people always say about the PS3, to the point of it having meme status, is that is has no games. Now they have lost all advantage they had. They messed this up so bad. Maybe I am out of the demographic or something, and these things are going to sell like crazy, but I just can't see how an informed consumer can purchase and Xbox One.
P.S. I also which it was called the XXXBox. But then it would have to come with a free Brazzers account to watch on it. Then I might buy one if it was also backward compatible. lol
Not completely sure what to think yet, but at the moment my thoughts tend to be that the new xbox is going for more of a multimedia/TV kind of thing as opposed to an actual gaming platform, and that the PS4 seems much more serious and powerful as a specific gaming console. If I do get one, it'll probably be a PS4. But I'll reserve judgment
Disadvantages of Xbox1: xbox live fee used game fee mandatory DLC fee many features only available in the us/uk, many of those requires a cable box mandatory connection at least once per day (sorry to any military that cant use it) mandatory installs on the hdd for every game (and it reads from the hdd, not the disc + hdd, so possibly slower load times) DDR3 memory instead of GDDR5 memory
Aside from that, no innovation in the controller itself. Kinect is still neat, but... not entirely crucial. PS4 also has the PSmove or something equivalent.
I am really struggling to find a reason to buy an xbox1. Just because I dont watch much sports or TV I am pretty much automatically not a part of their target demographic. MANY gamers are the same as me. I mean, at least the PS4 features are all game related. The PS4 sharing utility, ability to livestream, shared GDDR5, no extra fees that isnt premium content, innovative possibility with the touchpad on the controller, future backwards compatibility via game streaming through gaikai... it all sounds very much more gaming focused but still maintains all of the media needs that I ever want from a console (netflix, blu ray).
I really may as well stick with a PC rather than get an Xbox1... games are always at least $10 cheaper (often significantly cheaper), I already have it, and most of the games will also be released on it (perhaps moreso this generation than the previous).
I think that rant is borderline retarded. Did anyone think Xbox One or PS 4 would overnight revolutionize gaming?
I never really borrowed or lent console games for the Xbox 360, but I think it's wrong to limit used games in such extent. I wouldn't be surprised if this is also something the game industry wants, with online access codes and such bullshit the software companies themselves already limits used games. No such shitstorm about that though.
I neither like or dislike the media capabilities. There are alot of people that uses their console as media player though, so a focus there is understandable however.
And by the way, is it even certain that PS4 will play used games without payment? Sony said in February at the PS4 announcement that the platform is capable of playing secondhand titles but that the decision to block or permit used games will ultimately be at the discretion of individual publishers.
The backward compatibility rant is just silly. This isn't coming in either xbox one or PS4.
Edit: Haha, seems TV is the word to say if you want to be succesful at the Microsoft HQ
what bothers me the most is that they focus so much on tv/entertainment, but only make such a half-assed attempt at it. with a pass through signal from the set-top box you already own, and with us-exclusive content features.
so far i haven't been interested in the next generation consoles, and i haven't owned a previous xbox. however my tv furniture is full of devices: a dvd player, ps2, ps3, wii and an apple tv. i don't care if the next xbox or playstation has better graphics and gimmicks and what not, i start to care if a console has very interesting exclusives that justify a purchase. for the wii that was zelda:tp and mario galaxy, for the ps2 and ps3 that was the respective gran turismo game.
i knew microsoft probably wouldn't show me exclusive games that i'm interested in since i hate playing shooters with a controller, but if someone finally would get the entertainment part right i'm jumping on the train immediately. what i want is a single subscription/content libary where i can find movies from all big studios and lots of independent studios. with the tv series from all cable companies, and on-demand shows from every channel, live casts from every event, etc.
currently, in germany at least, there's this subscription service where i can watch f.e. the abc shows i'm interested in. cbs? tough luck, different subscription service. bbc? another one. hbo? please go to itunes. he itunes, you know that movie – what? oh that's only avaible on retail dvd. maybe i want to watch soccer tonight, that's exclusive on sky. i'm in the mood for some endurance racing, and it's running on private tv! but they are only showing the start and the finish and some tidbits inbetween, in total maybe 3 hours of the 24 the race is running. but you can subscribe to telekom entertain, and then buy this sport package…
i don't want to waste my time and money, and have 3 set-top boxes and 5 subscriptions and 8 remotes. just give me one, it doesn't have to be cheap – just convenient. i know there is a lot of deal making and negotiations necessary to get that done with all the IP owners, that's why there are just a handful of companies in the world which would have the leverage, impact and trust to make that work. microsoft would be one of them, and they blew it.
Well Xbox 1 will never be used in the FGC at least. Or FPS scene I guess if they have meetings. Hardcore gamers of course hate most of those features. So then their target audience is... ...
...
unknowing parents who buy trash games about movies for their children?
Btw what a shitty name, I couldn't have come up with a more idiotic one even if I tried.
Oh yeah. I also find it absolutely hilarious that they're concentrating on making the Xbox into a TV when TV is about to be a dead media with everyone watching movies on the internet on their pads and phones.

The only reason i own consoles? Exclusive Games. There have been a lot of really good titles over the years, which are sadly not available for PCs
I probably wasn't going to buy this anyways - just for economic reasons - but I'm actually trying to come up with any reason why I would even want to and I'm just drawing a blank.

Yep, that's it. A lot of games I would have played if I had owned a console :/

I still hope for a Red Dead Redemption for PC, maybe when Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out. But I cannot think of more than 2-3 Games over the last 2 years that I want to play so badly. Basically only RDR and UFC Undisputed 3. Console-Exclusive Games are mostly too much focused on Console-Casuals (Uncharted, God of War etc)...
