When you're looking to develop an IP (new or sequel) you're going to look at EVERYTHING. And in this generation, developing for the DS (or even cell phone) meant a fraction of the budget with an order of magnitude greater user base.
And if you do that, you're developing for a different market. Saying that a AAA release is the same market as the latest Angry Birds is just silly. They're both entertainment, and have some cursory similarities, but that's about it. Show nested quote + And, like I said in my first post, that's exactly why consoles aren't gaming machines anymore. Pure gaming has moved to the handheld market and even that's being gobbled up by Android and iOS. You can ignore those segments of the market if you'd like but they are affecting the console market in tremendous ways. And it's a big reason we end up with these shit shows of console reveals.
Former Halo players aren't turning into angry birds farmvillers - those people are a new market, people who didn't really play games at all before. Undoubtedly the market is shifting; that does not mean that console games are now the same market as android games. Just as MMOs are not the same market as, say, an offline 4x TBS.
Halo "players" aren't a market at all anymore. Halo is turning into a TV show. They're Halo "viewers" now. There are no different markets anymore. If you insist on differentiating the markets you're going to find that the older ones are going away entirely.

Where are the days of plugging your console in the TV, popping a game in and instantly getting the game loading screen?
And always online! What is fucking wrong with them? Why should a single player game require internet? Pretty much all that needs to be said about the matter. I don't think I'll ever buy another console as long as I live.

Woooow, this is probably the first time in 27 years where I won't buy a console from a new gen. Someone please tell me Dark Souls 2 will be PC too?

it will be. I believe From said it would be their lead version this time, though I might be misremembering the reports.

So is there any kind of VOD I can watch to see the reveal? Was asleep during the morning announcement stuff. I know PS4 had their VODS up immediately but I see nothing on twitch for Xbox.

If the prices are reasonably similar, I would buy the PS4 over the XBOX One without hesitation.

I'd buy a console for Kingdom Hearts 3 or Ni No Kuni 2. But I'm sure as hell gonna wait till they're released before I go dropping money on a console.

I think everyone ought to keep in mind just how popular "not-computers" are these days. Regardless of capability, there is clearly a large population of consumers willing to shell out extra bucks for things that are like computers and yet somehow different in a key way, whether that be a TV hook up, a tablet design, or a mobile phone template. We, as in TL users, are definitely not the target demographic here methinks.

I think that Xbox One looks like a great home entertainment machine, but it's not something for gamers. live tv, movies, internet explorer, all of these are things that are great for something like an entertainment machine or a super tv, like they said on the livestream "nobody buys phones that are just phones" everything has to have something extra with it. I think Xbox One is going to be good but i also sense that most hardcore gamers will jump to or back to pc gaming.
Gaming consoles doesn't seem to be about gaming anymore but an all in one entertainment device.
i might buy it though. but not for the gaming aspect most likely, but i could change my opinion since we haven't seen everything yet.

Anyone can explain the graphic prozessor from ps4/xbox? Whats the better one or is it impossible to say atm.

But we need to see gameplay as gamers, the rest is just perks for us.
Doubt there will be a staggering difference in gameplay between PS4 or One. It all comes up again to the exclusives and 'additional' features like Kinect. Sure there were quite a few non-exclusive games where they performed better on one console rather than the other, but it all came down to developers in the end. So I don't think there will be groundbreaking differences in both consoles, or any for that matter.

I was a bit bummed by the reveal that did not "reveal" much about the inner workings of the console and gaming related things in general. Instead, the presentation focused more on television stuff that doesn't interest me at all because here in South Africa we can't access all the features anyway. Where are the games - the good stuff - Microsoft?
I have to say though that the demos that they did show were exceptional and makes me excited for the new generation of consoles games that will be pumped into the market right when the new consoles hit stores, and particularly for the technological advancements in graphics and physics that will improve over the years as developers tap into powers that the consoles possess that will stay hidden for the time being.
The Xbox One will not be too cheap imo, and I will have to search deep into my pockets if I were to ever purchase one (Dear Santa, I've been a good boy this past year so far ^^).

meh, sticking to pc.. im sure my rig is blows anything ps4/xbox has to offer.

i might buy it though. but not for the gaming aspect most likely, but i could change my opinion since we haven't seen everything yet. The problem is redundancy. If you have a super tv you already have functions like skype, snap functions, internet browsing, media streaming built in to the TV software. Then you usually have similar functions on other media centers, sound systems, bluray players and so on. Sure the One does have some flashy functions and probably does a better job in a lot of regards but I have serious doubts that someone would like me would consider buying the console unless it offers something more than that or a good gaming platform (I don't give a fuck about the motion control). I'll have to wait for more information but so far nothing shown today really interested or impressed me.

Given that I can spend well over 100 hours on a single playthrough of either of those games, it comes out to less than a movie. Granted I'm a KH fanatic so I'm probably not normal. But if they finally release KH3 I would imagine KH4 would come out in the same generation.
