The only things that could hold it back could be a middling Speed stat and the one-turn setup for Mega evolution.
Based off my own knowledge of Pokemon, I see Mega Charizard X (ChariXard?) as potentially one of the most fearsome physical threats in the new metagame. Like Charizard in previous generations, it will require a lot of support, but if that support is used well, I see very few things that can stop it once it gets rolling. Strong priority users and Choice Scarfers could revenge kill, but I think ChariXard will be more than capable of smashing through at least one Pokemon during its rampage. Maybe something like Jellicent could wall it for some time, with Cursed Body to disable one of its moves, but ThunderPunch or even Shadow Claw will still do a number on it thanks to 2x effectiveness and boosted damage from Tough Claws. Not only that, but Jellicent's Scald will only be of neutral effectiveness, and will no longer burn ChariXard, due to Fire-types being immune to burns in X and Y. Maybe a Fairy type with Flash Fire would be the best choice for taking it on, but ChariXard's coverage moves can still do plenty of damage, and we don't know if there will be something like that in X and Y.
Oh, and God help you if you have to take a boosted Flare Blitz from this thing in the sun.
Actually, regarding Mega evolutions, I don't actually know if they persist upon switching out, or if you have to reactivate the evolution every time you send that Pokemon in. If it's the latter, then ChariXard might not be incredibly viable due to the sheer amount of switching involved in mispredictions. However, even if that's the case, something like a Life Orb ChariXard could still wreak havoc by simply coming in and spamming Flare Blitz until it dies, taking a big chunk of health out of the opponent if not killing something outright. That would still be a lot of setup, though; you'd have to ensure Stealth Rock is off the field, switch in Charizard on something that's afraid of it, Mega evolve, use a boosting move, and THEN start attacking. That's a large window of vulnerability, even if you decide to forgo the boosting move and just go all-out attacking mode.
I predict that ChariXard will possess quite a few exploitable weaknesses and require lots of support and prediction, just like normal Charizard. If it sets up, though, you WILL be punished for it.
I've edited this post like 14 times. I should be working, but Pokemon is too exciting~ :3
MegaEvolutions don't have a setup time. You can mega-evolve Charizard and attack in the same turn.

That's good to know. If the persist-upon-switching thing is true, then Stealth Rock will only be a major issue the first time you switch Charizard in to evolve. I don't really expect ChariXard to live all that long due to potential Outrage-locks, Flare Blitz and Life Orb recoil, and stuff like sandstorm and Spikes, but at least Stealth Rock won't totally neuter it after the first time it comes in. Hell, maybe you could even do a bulky boosting set with Roost, Dragon Dance, Outrage/Dragon Claw, and Flare Blitz to ensure ChariXard can stay in long enough to take a few hits and boost several times. Wish support will also be fantastic. Unfortunately, even though ChariXard has less of a weakness to Stealth Rock, Rapid Spin support might be even more important now that it's affected by (Toxic) Spikes. A little irony there.

starters' final evos + Show Spoiler + Fennekin's seems classy but rather underwhelming Chespin's looks weird in the way of when I first saw Torterra Froakie's is the most balance design imo

You're overlooking a very important fact, which is that charizard won't be having an item. Sure it's attack will probably be raised both by the mega-evolution as well as it's ability, but even then, it'll likely be outsped by most choice-scarfers or out damaged by most choice-banders. Notice that normal-charizard base attack stat is only 84, and I highly doubt its x mega will raise it above 100. Notice you're also only allowed 1 mega-pokemon per team, where currently there many more pokemon that look much more viable including the obvious mewtwo, garchomp, blaziken, lucario, but perhaps even less popular but imo equally devasting mawile (intimidate then huge-power is no joke, considering that even if it's attack remains the same, with the huge power boost it has higher than that of deoxys-a fully invested).

wow they are like forcing you to pick the water starter! the other two look atrocious

I think the fire and water evos are fine. The grass one looks like a digimon. Reminds me of armadillo-mon's digivolution.

The fire one looks like Renamon too, I guess

Fire's typing really bothers me. I like Psychic and Fire as types individually, but Psychic+Fire dual typing seems to just get the worst of both worlds.

Sharpedo will finally counter something ;')

I personally like all three of the final evolutions. I didn't like Chespin's first evolution, but his second evolution looks badass. I like it a lot.

if I were to ever get pokemon X/Y I'd start with the grass guy. I won't get it though, just waiting for the new update of pokemonshowdown!
Oh, I actually thought this is the off topic thread hahaha

Now the last gen, I hated all the starters there. The otter was nice but its final evo was so stupid. The fire was the 3rd Fire/Fighting in a row and that made me mad. Just stop it already sheesh, Blaziken and Infernape were enough. And the grass starter was just meh and boring, didn't even become Grass/Dragon.
Now these... The witch fox looks really coool, as long as the final form isn't crap I'll be using it the first time. I hope it's Fire/Fairy but it might be Fire/Psychic... And the grass starter is actually fun and imaginative, and the water frog looks nice.

We should rename the off-topic thread "Pokemon X and Y Discussion Thread" on the 12th haha.

The blue starter reminds me of sonic
GOTTA GO FAST

GOTTA GO FAST Haha yeah I would not be surprised if it has a high speed stat, like Sceptile? 120-125 maybe. Would be neat. Hopefully it has some fun secondary typing like Fighting or something. Pure water is kinda booooring

The water one looks neat, physical water type hell yeah.
Grasss is okay, maybe it'll grow on me like Tepic/Emboar etc.
Fire... ugh... First thing I think off is Gothiette and that is not a positive thing

I just realised...
Those are a Samurai in an armour a samurai w/o armour and a ninja
i like the ninja, could be water/poison or water/dark
omg, water/dark would be awesome!!! but, because it will counter fenekin, i supposed it will be water/fighting (because fennekin looks like ti gona be fire/psych) to balanced it... how sad =(
also WTF? two forms for charizard? Mega-charizard X looks awesome, also for beeing Fire/Dragon
